04. 8,131,644 - I Turn to You (Total Streams: 42,318,651)

The first of Melanie C's UK #1s is finally revealed to be in 4th place! At this point in the count down the stream counts take a huge leap. Since Spotify started, 'I Turn to You' has racked up more than double the number of streams of 'What Took You So Long'.

It's been the case for a long time that the original album version is the most streamed version, rather than the Hex Hector Radio Edit. However the gap between them in the past 12 months isn't that large:

4,011,734 - Album Version

3,685,318 - Hex Hector Radio Edit (92% of the streams the Album Version managed)

Difference: 326,416

This is the gap between their life time totals:

24,688,747 - Album Version

16,371,542 - Hex Hector Radio Edit (66% of the streams the Album Version managed)

Difference: 8,317,205

The StoneBridge R&B Mix also does well - it was streamed 398,508 times in the past 12 months. That's 36% of its lifetime total of 1,097,009.

I feel like 'I Turn to You' and Geri's 'Mi Chico Latino' were about as big as each other back in the day, in terms of being summer hits that peaked at #1 in the UK - but in the streaming age 'I Turn to You' has completely eclipsed 'Mi Chico Latino'. As we can see, the past 12 months of streams for 'I Turn to You' (8.1m) were almost as many as 'Mi Chico Latino' has achieved overall (8.3m)

More responses pleeeease! I may post the full Top 3 tonight :o

That is astonishing! :o

It also does better on streaming than #1 group hits such as Too Much, Goodbye and Holler.

So odd that the album version of ITTY gets more streams as it certainly is not the most recognised!

This happened after eurovision!

The single version needs to be labelled as this and i think it would do even

more streams!!

ITTY also outperformed NBTSA worldwide when released so i am on to something!!

So deserved and it was great to see ITTY get it's moment at Eurovision!

Credit to Mel she has basically not let ITTY (and NBTSA) be forgotten. The continual touring, festivals, TV/radio promo slots and acoustic version have kept constantly reminding people of it.

It is a shame bar the usual anniversary social media post that Emma and Geri don't do more to keep their bigger solo hits in the publics mind and ear.

I must admit to being rather surprised actually, I thought I turn to you would be #2 on the list after It's rainng men! :o

Trying to think what is left

- It's raining men

- Never be the same again

- ???

I'll assume Never Be The Same Again is the next one with When You're Gone and It's Raining Men fighting out for the top spot.

Certainly feels like the Schizophonic singles could be much bigger if Geri was out there reminding people that they exist! I don't even think it would take much more than doing the Pride circuit every other year or so.

Emma would be perfect for the pride/festival circuit. 9 top 20 hits, Maybe, WTYSL being big gay/pop anthems. 2 become 1 and Stop she can easily nail alone. Throw in a well known cover and she can easily fill a crowd pleasing 1 hour slot.

Would no doubt help her streaming and flog a few copies of her old albums. I'm sure she would be a big name to some of these festivals and get big billing/star treatment.

The album version of I Turn To You is amazing and deservedly the most streamed  I never jelled with the Ibiza-lite single version personally and it has aged quite badly for me...

Having said that, at least from across Europe, I Turn To You was a massive hit, much bigger than Mi Chico Latino from what I remember. I Turn To You would play in clubs (I used to go out a lot back then and it definitely would be on all DJs set lists) and was all over radio and TV whereas MCL was mostly on MTV that I saw...

Both Emma and Geri could earn a decent income from doing the Pride circuits especially. Melanie C is getting really decent billing in pretty much all the festivals she is doing and those two could easily do the same and put together some great Pride / Mighty Hoopla type sets, something like:

Geri:

1. Look at me

2. Scream if you wanna go faster

3. Mi chico latino

4. These boots are made for walking

5. Love never loved me

6. Ride it

7. Lift me up

8. Bag it up

9. Wannabe (solo version)

10. It's raining men

Emma:

1. Maybe

2. Baby please don't stop

3. Take my breath away

4. Free me

5. Downtown

6. I'll be there

7. Stop (over 2 become 1 because there is alot of slower tracks)

8. We're not gonna sleep tonight

9. What I am

10. What took you so long

The setlists are normally only between 5-10 songs for these events so can easily cut some out if needed or add a few more Spice / album tracks.

I went to Aiya Napa in 2010 and they were playing it in clubs there, I was so excited. :w00t: I even heard it once in Ibiza in 2012 in a club albeit a heavy dance edited version of it.

Totally agree. Baffling she is not doing the pride and summer festival rounds... wtf Bunton.... IMAGINE the gays going wild for Maybe and What Took You So Long!!!!

I mean I get why Geri isn't doing it, she has no interest in stepping outside of her new Lady of the manor image, and tbh she clearly looked VERY uncomfortable when she did the GAY performance, she is best not doing them at all if she is anything like that!

BUT Emma claims that performing is her most favourite thing in the world, and she has released an album and done a few shows in the last 5 years, so I don't understand why she wouldn't do the Pride and Summer pop festivals. My only reason can be that it isn't really her most favourite thing in the world at all, it has to be worth it money wise and it clearly isn't. That's also why she doesn't release new music when we know the record company will put out music if she brings it to them.

Lazy Spice syndrome... as much as I love her, she really does the bare minimum

It was silly for her not to book summer shows in summer 2019 seen as Mel C was also doing that around the world, Emma could have done the summer UK rounds too... Then again, she could have also done them last year gearing up for the Christmas tour... instead, the way it was all done, there was no momentum at all for the tour

She needs to put in the hours -_- if she commits, she can do well! She wont do a Kylie or even a Mel C but she can do much better than what she offers at the moment...

She could easily do a “Mel C” My Happy Place basically did as well as Melanie C album.

Yes very true... their record buying fanbase is very limited and clearly it is a similar size between the two of them (Melanie C album sold more off the back of more variants and people buying multiple variants lol) but that doesnt mean they cant have the festival crowds too!

I think she should try Mighty Hoopla-type of events, plus a couple of prides like Manchester and Brighton, and then venture out from there to other summer festivals... come on Bunton get your ass in gear!! :whip:

(Melanie C album sold more off the back of more variants and people buying multiple variants lol)

What?! Emma had just as many variants.

My Happy Place basically did as well as Melanie C album.

Streaming-wise, Melanie's self-titled album has done much better. It also charted in more countries.
