June 14, 20232 yr Oh that reminds me of Rebecca Black's Crumbs and Kimbra's Replay which a couple predicted to win but did not come close :( Undeserved imo xx
June 15, 20232 yr I was quite surprised that Low - Lullaby qualified as it was a challenging listen and well over 9 minutes with no chorus and no vocals after the 3 minute mark. Edited June 16, 20232 yr by Colm
June 15, 20232 yr From a personal perspective I do find it quite shocking that in 100+ entries my third(?) highest finish came from one of the most landfill of mid-00s landfill indie bands, Reverend and the Makers Edited June 15, 20232 yr by RabbitFurCoat
June 16, 20232 yr I agree that growers suffer in BJSC, as many people only listen once or twice, although personally for me Eliza's track was one of the most instant songs of the whole of 2022. Martin Garrix? It was only 14th. We have a patchy record here of projecting future chart hits though (some have done really well here - Someone Like You, Easy Love and Good Times were winners and UK No.1s, others less so - Royals and Somebody That I Used To Know tanked). Gotta admit I was more shocked when Royals hit the UK number 1, I never did get it  Gotye, though, total all-time classic but I guess it's originality worked against it as it wasnt an obvious monster on first hearing. Easy Love had that Jackson 5 catchiness so that wasnt a surprise either way.
