Hadn't been playing Dire Straits and Lloyd Cole as much in the last couple of weeks so put them on and in anticaption of Saturday's concert I dug out the vinyl re-issue of the Saw Doctors' debut album. Most of the entries on the tracks chart have been explained in the albums commentary but a handful haven't. The Undertones were supporting the Saw Doctors at their Belfast show but there is another reason why Thrill me returns so high. A few weeks ago I mentioned the Northern Ireland broadcaster Gerry Anderson. Last week saw the 10th anniversaryy of his death and in tribute Radio Ulster broadcast a daily "Best of..." show which included clips of some of the track he used to play. Thrill Me was a regular on his playlist when it was released - in fact it was through Gerry's show that I found out that there was a limited pressing on 7" which I managed to get a copy of. The tracks by Chip Taylor, Dana Lyons and Henry McCullough are all ones I came to know through the show (the latter 2 I bought on CD at the time). Henry is the only Irishman to have played at the original Woodstock and later went on to play in Wings. Chip is best known as the writer of Wild Thing and Angel of The Morning. The Saw Doctors saw some good moves thanks to the fact that I had seen them at the end of the previous chart week and the Oasis concert announcements at the start of this chart week didn't do them any harm. Expect Definitely Maybe to move further up the album chart next week as I picked up the 30th anniversary re-issue on Saturday. The Now Yearbook will likely move up as well as my copies arrived on Thursday evening. Listened a bit more to Brothers In Arms and Letter To You so several of the tracks climb / re-enter the singles chart.

Fine Young Cannibals and Terence Trent D'Arby popped up on the Now Yearbook as did Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over. I much prefer the reworking of the track by Irish band Dove. From around the same era I spotted something online about Sigue Sigue Sputnik and had a listen to their 2 albums - wasn't so keen on the 2nd one but loved Flaunt It which I bought on cassette when it came out. Friday 6th saw the release of the 2nd single from the forthcoming 4 of Us album and Oasis fever continued with some more of their tracks entering the chart. Their new album arrived in the post on Friday and I was lucky enough to see them live that evening at the Ulster Hall in Belfast where I narrowly missed bumping into Courtney Cox who was also in the audience alongside actor Jimmy Nesbitt and former rugby player Tommy Bowe. Always on the lokout for something by the Boss that I'm not familiar with I had a listen to the No Nukes Concerts album. Plenty of movement in the singles chart for the Saw Doctors and a few Snow Patrol tracks charting. I also played Brothers In Arms a bit more this weeek along with the first Traveling Wilburies album.

By this point I've taken to digging out random albums that I haven't been listening to as much and this week it was the turn of The Undertones, Ed Sheeran and The 4 of Us. I also had a listen to Western Stars by Bruce Springsteen which narrowly missed out on the Top 10 although some of the tracks entered the singles chart. During the week I was in the audience of a special show at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast marking the centenary of BBC Northern Ireland. Amongst the guests were Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet who performed Through The Barricades and Gold, Clannad who performed The Theme From Harry's Game and Peter Cunnah (D:ream) who closed the show with Things Can Only Get Better.

Friday saw the release of the new album from Public Service Broadcasting which I listened to on Spotify while waiting for my CD and zoetrope vinyl to arrive. Thankfully a return to form after the disappointment of their previous release. And a return for Bryan Adams following the announcement of a 2025 tour which will once again include Belfast. As for the Queen songs - I went to see a Queen tribute band - Flash Harry on the Friday of this week. And it was another show this week that saw Madness enter as Yesterday's Men featured in a play that was on in my local theatre.

I also spent the last couple of days of the chart week streaming the new Paul Heaton album while waiting for the signed CD which I had preordered. As well as the album Paul announced a couple of concerts in Belfast and Dublin so having booked tickets it was time to play some of his older material. With the recent Milli Vanilli "comeback" I decided to dig out the Two x 2 CD collection which I bought on cassette back in the day. And a couple of weeks away from seeing the Corrs on the opening night of their new tour I was playing Breathless - probably my favourite track of theirs!

The Buffalo Stance video appeared on a Facebook post which prompted me to dig out the album and upon receiving the new Now Yearbook I decided to put on the previous release first. The same day (Friday) saw the release of the new Christy Moore album and I also received the vinyl edition of the new album from the 4 of Us. And more concert related hits - on Saturday 2nd I went to see Therapy? on their Troublegum 30th anniversary tour. Friday 1st November also brought a new release from the Saw Doctors in the shape of Wha'D'ya Think A That? Also picked up the Christy Moore vinyl on Monday from HMV. And played The Last Flight a bit more after seeing Public Service Broadcasting in Belfast on Sunday night. Their support band on the night was a fabulous local act - Arborist. One of their tracks was recommended to me be a friend who I bumped into at the show and that track (Taxi) makes it's debut. The Saw Doctors tracks all make big improvements wih a full week's play. And this week's big concert announcemt sees a return for the recent Snow Patrol single. Also had a brief listen to the new 4 of Us album which returns to the bottom end of the chart. Natalie Imbruglia debuts in the singles list - she was opening for The Corrs at their shows. The writer of Christy Moore's hit "The Voyage" - Johnny Duhan died during the week so naturally the song was featured in news reports on Irish TV and radio. Duran Duran's latest single has belatedly entered the chart as well. And of the current crop of singles I've taken to Apt and Pitbull's reworking of the Bon Jovi classic. Hothouse Flowers announced live dates for next year where they will be playing their first 2 albums (though sadly no sign of any Irish shows yet!) which persuaded me to dig out their debut. Damian McKee is the accordion player with Beoga who have charted previously and moyola Cottage is one of 2 solo albums he has released. Over on the singles chart there are a couple of new entries for UB40 who I wnent to see (the non-Ali version) on Saturday 23rd and Bad Manners who I was looking forward to seeing the following night.

A lot of the entries to the singles chart were random plays on Spotify based on my listening history. There are 3 exceptions! Austin has been growing on me over the last few weeks. I had started rewatching the Channel 4 sitcom Desmonds and came across the theme tune which had been recorded as a full song by the lead actor Norman Beaton. I've mentioned the radio broadcaster Gerry Anderson in the past - while he was presenting his Radio Ulster show he and producer Sean Coyle recorded a single on which the lead track was a cover of A Boy Named Sue as it would have sounded if recorded by Daniel O'Donnell. These days Sean Coyle has an afternoon show on Radio Foyle and this week he discovered a copy of the CD and played the track a couple of times.

Samantha Lawrence from Wee Papa Girl Rappers died during the week and Wee Rule makes it's debut as a result (coincidentally it appears on Now Yearbook 88). That led to a rap / hip hop playlist on Spotify which accounts or several of the other entries on the tracks chart. At number 47 we have a new entry for the latest single from the Saw Doctors. Sean Coyle has been playing DJ Otzi's Hey Baby quite a bit recently and as we are getting close to Christmas I had to play Otzi's brilliant festive offering which has a version of Hey Baby as track 2. That led to me sticking on the Never Stop The Alpenpop album as well.

The highest of these is the newest album by The Undertones - a live collection recorded in Glasgow in March 2023 which is only available on vinyl and only being sold at gigs. Chas & Dave was sitting with a few other albums that I was looking through and I streamed part of the new Ed Sheeran album when it appeared on Spotify on Friday. The Fairytale of New York album returned after I went to see the show on Monday night while Oasis return to the singles list after I went to see tribute band Roll With It again on Friday.
