So I'd been think of making this thread for some time. A thread where I'll aim to post songs that were released by Australian artists from 2000 to probably around the mid 2010's. I'll try and avoid the obvious ones likes Kylie Minogue and aim more for ones where people hopefully haven't heard of the artist or the song. :)

I'll start off with a handful today then aim to do maybe two or so a week.

I hope you enjoy. :)

Bachelor Girl - Permission to Shine:

2000 - Released as a radio only promo single in either late 1999 or early 2000 this still remains my favourite song from Australian duo Bachelor Girl. Probably most well know for their 1998 debut single Buses & Trains which reached #4 in Australia and #84 in the UK. They released a few other songs I enjoy but they're from 1998/99, so I may post those in the other forum. :)

I've decided to include this here as I can distinctively remember it getting a lot of radio play in 2000.

Joanne - I Don't Know

2001 - I Don't Know was the 6th and final single released from Australian singer Joanna Accom's one and only album. Though this is technically the 6th single the first three were actually all released in 1998/9 with the fourth to six coming in 2001, just before the album. I Don't Know remains my favourite from those released in the 2000's. (Jackie released in 1998 is my favourite).

There's two versions of this, so I'll post them both. The Album edit and the Radio Fast edit.

Leah Haywood - Takin' Back What's Mine

2001 - Released as the third single from the Perth singer's album titled 'Leah' this reached #18 on the Australian Singles Chart. Her first two singles We Think It's Love & Crazy reached #7 & #31 respectively. This was the only single I owned from Leah, though my sister did own her first two. Whilst Leah isn't a prominent singer anymore she has had a hand in backing vocals, co-writing and co-producing some songs for some fairly big artists. (Britney Spears-Out From Under-Vocals, Nicki Minaj-Marilyn Monroe-Co Writer/Producer & Katy Perry-Never Really Over-Writer).

Ricki-Lee - Can't Touch It

2007 - Released as the debut single from Australian Idol alumni Ricki-Lee's second studio. Can't Touch This peaked at #2 on the Australian Singles chart, her highest charting hit. This was a noticeable shift for Ricki-Lee in sound, this is more dance-pop heavy than the singles released from her self titled debut album. I can't help but think this is the type of song that could really go viral from Tik-Tok, to me it just has that sound.

Amiel - Lovesong

2003 - Released in 2003 as the breakthrough solo debut for Amiel Daemion, this got all the way to #6 on the Australian Singles chart. Some may know Amiel as the vocalist on the 1998 Australian dance hit Addicted to Bass, which was later released in the UK in 2002. This is a fun little post breakup inspired song that I always loved singing along to at the time. I always remember loving when radio would play this after 8pm-9pm at night as they'd play the explicit version.

Oh fab idea, I'll check these out as always keen to hear what I missed from Australia. Can't Touch It I remember well - they remixed it and released it here a few years later under a different title but it flopped.

The original was way better.

Yeah Ricki Lee is the only I kinda recognise here. Didn't put it in my chart but probably checked it out sometime back then as it sounds familiar and very catchy.

Will check the rest out in the next few days ^_^ this is indeed a good idea of a thread!

I knew it git remixed for the UK and Europe and that it flopped but I don’t think I ever heard it fully. Definitely seems inferior to the original to me.

Do you think it could’ve worked as a Eurovision song around then? It’s certainly the right length.

Also I’m going to try and include some male artists as well, marek it a good spread.

I’ll even probably use multiple songs by the same artist too. :)

Sugarlips - Little Piece Of Me (2000)

Peak position in my chart : # 1 (2 weeks)

Delta Goodrem - I Don't Care (2001)

Peak position in my chart : # 1 (1 week)

It's her debut # 64 flop.

Lash - Beauty Queen (2001)

Peak position in my chart : # 1 (2 weeks)

Oh it would have been perfect I think! Has a very accessible sound that would have done well.

The Home and Away girls - Tammin Sursok and Bec Cartwright! The latter having, genuinely, released one of the best pop albums of that decade!

Thanks for the feedback and contributions so far everyone.

I’m aiming to do another 4 or 5 tomorrow, including a Popstars alumni and one that’s already been mentioned here. :)

Also is it just me? But I think Permission to Shine would’ve made a nice X Factors winner single back in the day. It’s kind of git that nice message to it.

'Permission To Shine' is alright and 'Lovesong' is pretty good. Didn't realise she was the vocalist on 'Addicted To Bass' :o

The faster version of 'I Don't Know' is better than original form imo.

'Takin Back What's Mine' is the best of those 4 for me though. Surprised it didn't go top 10 over there with the Britney sound it had!

Human Nature - He Don't Love You

2000 - He Don't Love You was released as the lead single from Human Nature's third studio album in Australia. Peaking at #4 it became the groups 6th and second last top 10 hit in Australia. It would go on to be the 53rd best selling single of 2000 in Australia. It was also their biggest charting hit in the UK, peaking at #18. The song was also co-written and produced by Steve Mac, most notably known for his work with Westlife and Ed Sheeran.
