June 28, 20232 yr That's come round quickly! Excited to see Vingegaard and Pogacar duelling it out again (hopefully - provided there are no unfortunate incidents!) and a decent number of other riders who could make the podium as well.
June 30, 20232 yr Team presentations happened yesterday - a moment of silence for Gino Mader, fittingly so. The real thing starts tomorrow!
July 1, 20232 yr A fantastic way to kick off the Tour! I don't think I've ever seen twin brothers on different teams attack together and finish first and second. Congrats to Adam on his first win and the yellow jersey! Losing Mas and (probably) Carapaz so early on is sad to see though. Victor Lafay could potentially be a dark horse though, he did pretty well keeping up with Vingegaard and Pogacar on that climb.
July 3, 20232 yr A fantastic win yesterday for Victor Lafay! The first win for Cofidis in 15 years apparently. Really interested to see how the rest of the tour pans out for him.
July 3, 20232 yr And a win today for Jasper Philipsen - a good win, but he did have the world's best leadout man in Van der Poel! Another sprinter's opportunity tomorrow.
July 4, 20232 yr Another win for Philipsen today! Although a lot more crashes (on what should've been a 'safer' finish), hope no-one else is forced to abandon. Into the Pyrenees tomorrow!
July 4, 20232 yr Would be great if the final stage was on the main channel, ITV. That would be nice! Although the Tour is a weird one for that as the winner will almost certainly have been decided by then, so one wonders whether that would be the best stage to show on the main channel.
July 6, 20232 yr What an exciting last couple of days! Yesterday overall contender Jai Hindley was allowed to get in the break and took a minute on Vingegaard (earning yellow in the process), and Vingegaard dropped Pogacar finishing a minute ahead of him. Today, Pogacar bounced back, finishing half a minute ahead of Vingegaard and 3 minutes ahead of everyone else! So Vingegaard is in yellow, Pogacar is 20ish seconds behind him, Hindley a minute and a half back and everyone else over 3 minutes behind (and we're only on Stage 6!) We certainly need the couple of sprinters' stages on the horizon to calm ourselves down
July 7, 20232 yr yes the last 2 days have been a fantastic watch yesterday was really surprising cos for most of the race Pogacar looked defeated (to me) but he was clearly faking it the moment he escaped and Vingaard couldn't follow was something to watch
July 7, 20232 yr ^ Interesting thoughts! There was certainly that part yesterday where he was pulling all those faces which I didn't really know which way to take  Philipsen got his third win today, just ahead of Cavendish, although a bit of controversy over him pushing Biniam Girmay into the barriers. Speaking of Girmay though it was nice to see him finish third overall, really hope he makes history and gets a stage win at some point.
July 8, 20232 yr And so it ends for Cavendish, as he pulls out with a broken collarbone in a seemingly innocuous crash. A stage win for Mads Pedersen today though which is great to see! Simon Yates was held up in a crash and lost 40 seconds, but other than that the GC remains the same going into the hills again.
July 9, 20232 yr Author Mark Cavendish's team are to offer him the chance to attempt to win a record 35th Tour de France stage in 2024. The British rider, who is set to retire at the end of this season, abandoned this year's race after breaking his collarbone on Saturday's eighth stage. Cavendish is equal with five-time Tour winner Eddy Merckx on 34 stage wins. "I hope we will see him soon back in the race. In my opinion, his career cannot end here," Astana Qazaqstan team manager Alexandre Vinokourov said. He admitted it was "too early to say something about his race program", but continued: "I crashed out in the Tour of 2011 but I came back to win Olympic gold one year later. It would be nice if Mark comes back to the Tour for a 15th time and wins that 35th stage."
July 10, 20232 yr ^ Not sure what to think of that - he's very publicly annouced his retirement, so to carry on another season would certainly be interesting! Pogacar took a few more seconds away from Vingegaard yesterday, so very close going into Rest Day number one. The battle for the win was a lot more exciting though, would never have gone for Mike Woods looking at where he was at the bottom of the climb!
July 11, 20232 yr A win for Pello Bilbao - poignant to see a rider from Bahrain Victorious win following Gino's death. And it's shot him up into 5th in the General Classification as well.
July 12, 20232 yr Aaand another win for Philipsen today! He really is the sprinter of the Tour this time round.
