Blur set for one last hurrah

Virgin Net

Blur are set to reform in 2007 to record one last album, according to reports.

Damon Albarn, Alex James and Dave Rowntree all went their separate ways in 2003. Graham Coxon had left the band in 2002 after he and Albarn had fallen out over his drinking.

Albarn went on to work with Gorillaz and his latest musical project is The Good The Bad And The Queen, while Coxon went on to release a number of solo albums.

James settled for a life in the country while Rowntree landed a job working on the animation series Empire Square.

However, they are all set to work together again after Albarn asked Coxon to team up with Blur again earlier this year.

A source told The Sun: "Graham left Blur under a hazy cloud. He was worried that returning to the studio with the lads would be like moving backwards.

"Graham is over getting smashed every night and he didn't want to go back to an environment where he will be tempted. But he has finally realised Blur have grown up and have families now.

"They are a totally different band to the one in the Nineties. As soon as Damon has finished his tour with The Good The Bad And The Queen in February they are planning to go into the studio. It will be one step at a time.

"It may not be a long-term project - it will probably be one last final Blur album to bring closure to the band. Just how it should have been."

The band's last studio album was 2003's 'Think Tank'.

Are you pleased with this news or not?

Great News! :o Look Forward to it

Thank God for that

Matt, we might actually have something to post about now

Yea, great news. Looking forward to the results. I think it's good because they have all been off and got new ideas and experiences now they can bring that back into there music.
I hope they comeback with great music! I'm looking forward to this!

Thank God for that

:o We will be so spoiled!

I'm just a little curious here... why isn't there anything on the official Blur site?!

Still not a word on the official Blur OR the GTB&TQ site either...

I'm starting to wonder if this is more of a rumour than a confirmation

prob a rumour

I'm not discounting it, it's just very odd that they've decided to reform, but have posted nothing on their official site

Hopefully something will come up in the next few days.

What does everyone else think of this?

Well it's probably not confirmed yet officially - the music business is a business and they've got to sort out all the details haven't they?

Plus also right now they're all quite busy - Graham's got his solo career, Dave and Damon both have other bands they're playing with, and Damon has this opera for the Manchester Festival coming out this summer....

i would think a new blur album then a greatest hits would be there next release

Blur have already had a best of!

There are no solid plans for a reformation at the moment. Alex and Dave are on record as saying they definitely want to make another Blur album, ASAP. Damon's position has solidified to 'I'm not doing anything with Blur without Graham'. Graham and Alex are now seeing each other again socially, which prompted this story. Graham has also mellowed his stance (which previously was 'never never NEVER' to a reunion).

So there you have it. That really is all there is to it, now. Certainly nothing has been decided, but the prospects for a reunion are still looking healthier than at any time since Graham left.

Graham Coxon discusses Blur reunion

Guitarist comments on the rumours

NME News

Graham Coxon has spoken out the rumours surrounding a Blur reunion.

Coxon quit the band in 2002 during the making of 'Think Tank' to concentrate on his solo work. But it had recently been rumoured that the band would be reuniting with bassist Alex James saying in December: "There may be some news."

Coxon said: "It's gone through my mind a few times, believe it or not. I know a lot of Blur fans are annoyed with what I did - I really did have to explore my own regions, get myself happy."

He told NME he left Blur because he needed to beat his own demons. He said: "When you go and get yourself straightened out after a period of abuse, it takes you longer than you think to get over it. It's been five years.

"There were things that I really really needed to do for my own good. Personally and musically I had to do some things to see if I was capable."
