Blur reform - for a week

teletext.co.uk

Dave Rowntree has confirmed Blur are reforming with Graham Coxon - but only for a trial period of one week.

Rowntree, who is standing for election as a Labour councillor in London, told The Guardian: "One week - it's a very small thing. It'll either be small in terms of being a seed, or small in the sense of being a full-stop."

The drummer added: "We're like brothers who get in touch at important times."

:o

Wow.. but what can be achieved in a week apart from a few gigs?

James furthers Blur reunion rumours

Wednesday, April 18 2007, 17:42 BST

DigitalSpy By David Cribb

Former Blur bassist Alex James has once again fuelled rumours that the band is on the verge of reuniting.

James revealed that drummer Dave Rowntree's decision to turn to politics may be the momentum the band needs to start working together again. The bassist admitted that the group's reliance on each other was the main factor involved in driving them apart originally, and a mutual feeling of independence would be a good way to start afresh.

"I'm pleased Blur's drummer has stepped into the political arena," he wrote in his column in The Independent. "We still get sent each other's media coverage and a heavy package arrived last week. I assumed Damon was No.1 in America again or Graham has been asked to to represent Britain in some Biennale or other, or maybe word had got out about the pickled cheese my scientists are working round the clock to perfect for the British Cheese Awards; but it was about Dave 'The Destroyer' Rowntree, the people's drummer, running for Westminster. He'll make an excellent politician, trust me.

"It's good that everyone seems to have found their own niche outside of Blur and, ironically, Dave's second coming as a politician is more likely to reunite us than anything. We'd all grown to resent the fact that we needed each other and now that we no longer seem to, we can face each other again..."

Blur to return to the studio in August

Saturday, April 28 2007, 14:33 BST

Digitalspy.com By Daniel Kilkelly

Blur are planning to return to the studio this summer, where they will decide whether to release a new album or call it quits.

Guitarist Graham Coxon, who left the group in 2002, has made peace with his former band-mates and will be involved in the project.

The quartet have reserved a London studio for a week in August, but will only book further sessions and record an album if they are able to work well together.

"We're all heading into the studio together this summer. Graham's coming too. We're gonna see if we've still got it," bassist Alex James confirmed. "If not, I think we'll just call it a day."

A source told the Daily Star: "There was a lot of acrimony around the time Graham left but now everyone is back on speaking terms. They're hopeful that the sessions will prove rewarding but are under no illusions. If things don't go to plan in the studio they're all quite happy to walk away, safe in the knowledge they gave it their best shot."

A week? I hope something decent becomes of it! :o

And Dave is running for Labour councillor?!

Alex James 'hopeful' for full album Blur reunion

Monday, September 10 2007, 14:54 BST

Digitalspy.com By Alex Fletcher

Alex James has said he is 'hopeful' on plans for a Blur reunion, revealing that the group members are all on speaking terms again for the first time in a while.

James told BBC 6 Music: "Funnily enough, people have been talking to each other. I don't think Graham and Dave have spoken for quite some time and there's been a flurry of texting and long chats which is good. I'm very hopeful.

"It's actually been brilliant to have a bit of time apart from each other. I think we all needed it as people. I think we'd all be unbearable if we'd carried on living that kind of lifestyle.

"It's given us all time to find ourselves a bit".

The bassist claims that the band members' solo projects have ensured that nobody in the group hates anyone else, as they do in other popular acts.

He added: "Everyone's found something to do. Writing the book made me realise how much we kind of do, actually, really love each other. So many bands don't, and they've been together for a long time.

"Look at The Who. They hate each other! Pink Floyd hate each other. I don't think The Rolling Stones really like each other that much."

Blur reunion is on

Alex James reveals the latest

BBC 6 MUSIC 10 Sept 07 - Alex James has given 6 Music an exclusive update on a Blur reunion and the follow-up to Think Tank.

Alex reckons Graham Coxon – who left five years ago over musical differences – is ready to re-join the band. Speaking to Julie Cullen on The Music Week, he said:

“Funnily enough, people have been talking to each other. I don’t think Graham and Dave have spoken for quite some time and there’s been a flurry of texting and long chats which is good. I’m very hopeful.”

Alex reckons that, on reflection, they all needed a break:

“It’s actually been brilliant to have a bit of time apart from each other. I think we all needed it as people. I think we’d all be unbearable if we’d carried on living that kind of lifestyle. It’s given us all time to find ourselves a little bit.”

Alex suggests the outside projects they've all undertaken have helped renew their interest in working together again:

“Everyone’s found something to do. Writing the book made me realise how much we kind of do, actually, really love each other. So many bands don't, and they've been together who’ve for a long time. Look at The Who. They hate each other!

“Pink Floyd don’t like each other. I don’t think The Rolling Stones really like each other that much. But I think that we all do, actually, kind of deep down somewhere, want to be friends and like each other.

“What’s great is that none of us need to do it now. We’ve all found other things to do so we can all approach things rationally and say ‘Would this be good?’ and I think it would be emotionally for all of us. It’s a shame Graham wasn’t involved in the last record, now he feels he’s ready. And its quite exciting actually.”

Graham Coxon: 'I'm raring to record with Blur'

Guitarist says Blur recording sessions are imminent

NME.com 17/09/2007

Graham Coxon, who left Blur in 2002, has spoken about his band's imminent reunion, saying he is "raring to record".

Blur bassist Alex James had previously explained to NME.COM that he was excited about plans for the band to record together, after drummer Dave Rowntree revealed the band had set aside a week to record together as a four piece for the first time since 2002.

Speaking to NME.COM, Coxon suggested that the reunion now depended on Blur frontman Damon Albarn.

"Dave, Alex and I are all talking. I talk to Alex the most. But there's four individuals in the band," he said. "We're all really busy, but there's definitely a week [when we're going to record].

"I'm just raring to record," he added. "But anything could happen. An alligator could come out of the Thames and eat the Tate Modern while I'm in it, or a mosquito could come and kill us all."

When asked what the new Blur material would sound like, Coxon joked, tongue firmly in cheek, that "there would be ten tracks, recorded on a 16-track, and all the songs will have loads of guitar on them."
