Nerina Pallot has long been one of my favourite singers and songwriters - largely ever since her breakthrough second album almost 18 years ago, "Fires", which had the top 40 singles "Everybody's Gone To War" and "Sophia", for which she subsequently was BRIT Award and Ivor Novello nominated, and she also of course went onto write and produce songs for Kylie Minogue for her "Aphrodite" album in 2010!

Anyway, turns out in her latest newsletter (which is excellent by the way, if you're not signed up to it) that she is currently compiling new liner notes for a deluxe reissue of the album on vinyl and CD in the spring next year: https://nerinapallot.substack.com/p/some-po..._medium=reader2

Also exciting is that she is planning a big one off show in London with a full band and live orchestra to perform the album in full and some of her other classics next April - date TBC.

I am so there for all of it because it's still such a brilliant album - any other Nerina fans on Buzzjack?

me too, love love Nerina and Fires is a classic

Idaho is one of my fav songs ever

This was such a great album. I’ll need to give it a listen today again. Learning To Breathe is one of my all time favourite songs

One of my favourite albums too, I’ve not seen her live since 2006 but happily would again, I’ve bought every album she’s released. The one from last year, I Don’t Know What I’m Doing, was her best for me in a very long time.

But Fires is her crowning glory definitely, it’s a mystery as to how Everybody’s Gone To War didn’t go top ten or hang around the charts longer. Also Idaho, Sophia, and Geek Love <3 But I loved the whole thing. Ridiculously underrated, I think this album never even made the top 20 despite some decent longevity.

It was such an odd strategy they had, they kind of soft-released the album before 'Everybody's Gone to War' came out (and that didn't do anywhere near as well as I hoped :( )

I really don't like the single version of 'Sophia', it dilutes the beauty of the song.

I do class myself as a "frustrated" Nerina Pallot fan. This album, is just perfection from start to finish. But her subsequent efforts have been really lacklustre to me, other than a few standout tracks.

But nevertheless, really excited for this reissue and will definitely have to look into getting tickets for the show :)

This is how I see it too. Fires is her crowning glory, bit the album before it - whilst overproduced and poppy - is also great. Then after that, it was all downhill! A bit like how Lana only has two good albums. For Nerina, Fires is amazing and The Sound and Fury, her other good album after it, is alright.

I will have to plead the fifth here and speak up in defence of "Year Of The Wolf" - I thought that was such a beautiful record and really well produced with Bernard Butler. Great singles from it too, I loved "Turn Me On Again" and "History Boys".

"Stay Lucky" was a brilliant album too, I loved "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter" and "Man Didn't Walk On The Moon" in particular from it. I do agree re: single version of "Sophia". It wasn't needed.

yes Year of the Wolf is also great

ALL of those songs are tboring, insipid, dumpster fires and that album is pure pop throwaway tracks!!!!

Actually The Graduate is also a very good album from Nerina

and especially Real Late Starter, this should have been a hit single

such a great euphoric song

oh just remember Joel McEldry did a cover of it for his debut album :D

Fires is fabulous, and Nerina has def topped my charts in the years since, still good. Some of her best material after Fires went to Kylie's Aphrodite album, not least the title track which is amazing.
yes for a while she gave a bunch of songs away, Kylie, Diana Vickers, Joe McElderry

It WAS A SINGLE!!

These bad takes :cheeseblock:

It's okay to admit that she has one great album, one okay albim and the rest is disappointing.

Or, radical suggestion I know: you could just allow people to like her other material in peace without haranguing them?

Her latest newsletter that went out yesterday confirms that an as yet unnamed venue in London has been booked for Saturday 13th April next year, with tickets going on sale end of September. I imagine that's when we'll be getting pre-orders etc!
