#4 Something in your eyes (8.16)

• Director: Carly Cussen

• Location: Unknown

• Released: 28 October 2020

• YouTube views: 3.800.000

Hitting #4 is one of their more recent videos. The official music video for "Something in Your Eyes" premiered online on 28 October 2020 and It was directed by Carly Cussen. The concept for this one is a simple and stylish pop video in which Steps perform in a mixture of futuristic pastel outfits. Other then that I couldn’t find a lot of information. It does seem to be considered as a classic from their new material.

It’s lovely to see the video for Something this high. I do prefer other videos a bit more. Personally I think it got there because of the song itself which seems to be a true fan favorite! The concept is simple but works if you ask me! Votes were between a 7 and 10 ending with a more then respectable 8.16 as it’s average score.

Basically it’s Lee that caused this to be so high, right?

I think the song? Lee doesn’t look bad but in my opinion not his hottest?

#3 Tragedy (8.30)

• Director: David Amphlett

• Location: All Saints' church (London)

• Released: November 1998

• YouTube views: 17.041.000

Just missing out on a top 2 spot is their iconic video for Tragedy. The song AND video that made them pop legends! Interesting enough it’s their lowest costing video at the time. As the director explained: ‘The lowest cost I think was Tragedy because that was kind of a last-minute deal’. ‘Tragedy was £35,000 and pretty much all of it was shot in one day’. ‘It’s The Way You Make Me Feel was the biggest I did and I’m going to take a stab and say it was £130,000’. ‘The others would have fallen somewhere in between, mostly at the lower end. Most would have been in the £50,000 to £80,000 kind of zone’. Other then that it’s their second most viewed video on YouTube.

What can I say other then iconic! if only for the dance routine and the great memories I have seeing this video. Tragedy received votes between a 7 and 10 ending with a respectable 8.30 as it’s average score.

Definitely and really cemented them as a group! I’m glad it was a nice hit outside the UK as well. And very interesting! I was surprised by that.

#2 It’s the way you make me feel (8.75)

• Director: David Amphlett

• Location: Brocket Hall (Hertfordshire)

• Released: January 2001

• YouTube views: 13.152.000

Just missing out on the top spot is the video for It’s the way you make me feel. How the creative process went for this one? As the director explained: ‘The whole thing was an allusion to the movie Dangerous Liaisons’. ‘I loved the track and I had had this idea that I thought would fit’. ‘To convince them that we should do it, I put the track down under stills and scenes out of Dangerous Liaisons in the order where the various scenes would go’. ‘I sent them the tape of how I wanted it to work and they said yes’. As mentioned above it’s their most expensive video to date costing around the 130.000 pounds.

What can I say? Another iconic Steps video if you ask me. If only for Lisa her bracelet! Here we seem to enjoy it as well with votes between a seven and a ten ending with a Steptacular 8.75 as it’s average score.

#1 Deeper shade of blue (9.00)

• Directors: Carolyn Corben and Harvey Bertram-Brown

• Location: London

• Released: April 2000

• YouTube views: 4.441.000

Taking the pole position in this countdown is the video for Deeper shade of blue! The music video has a futuristic style, with the group wearing blue and red latex uniforms with red latex gloves with the girls wearing blue latex hats for the dance sequences and each transforming into a darker alter ego during the video. The alter egos are to show the darker side of life that the song talks about.

In my opinion a deserving winner! Lovely storyline that helped this video grab the win (aka Lee shirtless). This one also received votes between a seven and a ten. What made the difference? It received the most 10’s so it ends up with a lovely 9.00 as it’s average score winning this video rating!
