I used to find that prolonged vocal effect at the beginning really off-putting and didn’t think the rest of the song was up to much either, but I have had a turn around on the song since. The lyrics are blunt, over-simplified, but I think it works in the context and with Madonna’s delivery. I do like the “please don’t try to tempt me… don’t want my dreams adding up to nothing” lyric.

August 13, 20231 yr Love Profusion is the first big loss for me. I think it's sorely underrated and gets a hard time. Nobody Knows Me is decent too!

August 14, 20231 yr Author I would have expected Nobody Knows Me to be higher too, I did have to double check the scores actually because an 11 and two 10s are high scores to only achieve 7th. I love the Re-invention performance, I prefer that version to the original and there’s something about Madonna strutting on that conveyor belt that just boosts the song. Love Profusion is a good album track but was wasted as a single. Nothing Fails should have had a worldwide release.

August 15, 20231 yr Author I really paid attention to ‘Intervention’ after she performed it on the Tears of a Clown concert and dedicated it to Rocco when they weren’t on speaking terms; that context brought a new layer of emotion to the lyrics and the pain Madonna was feeling was evident. It remains a favourite of mine.
