Following the tragic passing of Len Goodman, Derek Hough will take the head judge position and will be joined by the two OGs Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli. Three person panel. Not sure how I feel about this.

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!! Make sure you watch the VOD on Disney+!

Live from Hollywood, it’s an all new season of Dancing With The Stars! This season is a bittersweet one, with a lot of big changes including a new host and new air date, and of course this being the first season following the tragic passing of Len Goodman. As they say in show business, however, the show must go on, and with a new crop of 14 couples, it could be anyone's game!

As a fitting tribute, the classic Mirrorball trophy has now been dubbed the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy. 😭 😭 😭

(scores: Carrie Ann | Derek | Bruno)

-

Xochitl & Val: *cue Olivia Wilde "we love America!" video* How is this girl only 17??? I'm also digging her aesthetic. Definitely one to watch for.

This was a strong performance! She gives off Season 20 Willow Shields vibes. I love her energy and she's definitely performed above average for Week 1. Both Carrie Ann and Derek thought she needed to work on her timing and Bruno gives her some pointers to improve on her technique.

Also Julianne is doing super well tonight!

Scores: 6 | 6 | 6 = 18/30. I... do not like a three-judge panel.

-

Barry & Peta: He wants to represent people from his generation! Kinda the same way Donny Osmond did :P This is something he has been waiting to do for almost two decades, so I'm glad that he finally gets his dream come true.

He is doing so much better than what I expected! Peta was right about him: he is definitely a showman. He glided through that dance floor pretty well. Derek points out that his frame needed work but thought his performance was sunny and shining. Bruno agreed with the overall feel but wanted less bounciness in the foxtrot. Carrie Ann sees the potential in him both technique and performance-wise.

Scores: 6 | 5 | 5 = 16/30. I love his dynamic when it comes to Donny, there's a lot of love in that friendship.

-

Tyson & Jenna: Didn't expect a Top Model crossover so soon but here we are. I forgot he was on Chippendales. He definitely has some moves for sure. Also welcome back Jenna!

Well this... was a shaky start if I ever saw one. But he picked it up slightly over the course of the performance. I got the vibe that he was nervous. Bruno pointed out him leading with his heels and and thought his timing was off. Carrie Ann liked that he hit the beats hard and worked well with Jenna. Derek also ensured him that he did need to improve on the technique but that came in with time.

Scores: 4 | 4 | 4 = 12/30. Tyson does know that he is heavy-footed but he is hopeful for improvement.

-

Alyson & Sasha: It's so sad that Alyson has a bit of trauma when it comes to dance and I love that she's taking this as a healing process.

This was.......... something 😳 There was barely that much content! But I loved that she had a lot of fun on the show. Carrie Ann was glad that she got through the healing process but thought she had more potential that what was shown. Derek loved the joy she expressed but told her she lost her timing. Bruno concurs with his fellow judges and also complimented her on her attitude.

Scores: 5 | 4 | 4 = 13/30. I love that Sasha is proud of the partnership they're developing.

-

Harry & Rylee: It's so strange to think that DWTS Juniors was 5 years ago :o This will be very interesting to see because this is her first professional solo teaching venture.

I LOVE Rylee's costume for this  Unfortunately Rylee is the only person who's really giving this dance. Derek thought he was dancing very timid and he looked scared throughout the whole performance. Bruno thought he looked lost. Carrie Ann explained that his confidence went up after he ripped open his shirt because he felt more comfortable, so he's gotta work on everything else.

Scores: 4 | 4 | 4 = 12/30. He thinks that this show will give him a challenge.

-

Jason & Daniella: "I'm Yours" is probably one of the most overplayed songs in existence. He felt his insecurities pour through during college, but can this show be different?

...this was so much better than the last three dances combined  Daniella truly is a miracle worker. He was right about the same skill level as I thought he would be. Bruno was impressed with his dance ability and wants him to work on his technique. Wow, he definitely woke the judges up!

Scores: 7 | 7 | 7 = 21/30. Finally a competition! I think I might have to stan 😳

-

Jamie & Alan: Well this is gonna be a rough one. I know this is mainly promo for Zoey 102 but couldn't they have gotten someone else from that cast?

Well this was just... okay. Carrie Ann thought that she was tense but had good facial expressions. Derek thought she also had more potential than what she showed, and echoed that the tango was a low dance so she should lean into it. Bruno thought the quantity of content was good, but the technique and core strength was not there.

Scores: 5 | 5 | 5 = 15/30. Good to see that she didn't throw up.

-

Adrian & Britt: I don't watch football, but I know that football players have a really good track record.

My heart skipped three beats during that lift bc I wasn't paying attention to the announcer  This was INSANELY lift-heavy but the dancing looked good. Derek thought the dance showed off Adrian's strengths but thought the dancing part needed work. Bruno commends his commitment but agrees with Derek that he needed to work on his technique. Carrie Ann agrees with her fellow judges and thought he shared what Emmitt Smith had: swagger.

Scores: 6 | 6 | 6 = 18/30. Yeah I guess that's right.

-

Lele & Brandon: I liked her stuff with the Black Eyed Peas, so I have some high hopes for this pair.

SHE RIPPED THAT FLOOR UP. Sharp movements galore, she glided through that dance floor, her facial expressions were on point... she understood the assignment! Bruno wants her to watch her center during the fast spins but loved pretty much everything else. Carrie Ann called the dance powerful and mesmerizing but wants the pair to match their energies more. Derek loved the content but also agreed with Bruno to watch her center.

Scores: 6 | 7 | 6 = 19/30. A 7 FOR BREAKING HER NAIL

-

Mira & Gleb: I've seen Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion a TON but I completely forgot she was in that movie

The one thing I appreciate about Gleb's dances are that he likes to throw in a lot of content and I think Mira did well all things considered. Carrie Ann saw a shaky start but thought she recovered well and danced great. She mentioned that Len would have loved a classic dance like this. Derek thought the dance was a breath of fresh air but saw her overthinking the steps. Bruno thought her extensions and technique were on point and wanted her to work on her confidence.

Scores: 6 | 5 | 6 = 17/30. Really??? I thought this dance was pretty good!

-

Mauricio & Emma Emma watches Real Housewives/Buying Beverly Hills? I did not know that. Really interesting that we're getting a ton of controversial figures this season.

Good pacing, but he looks pretty stiff and I thought his kicks could have been slightly better. Derek thought he did well for Week 1 even if a bit dad-like. Bruno thought he sold the number but wanted the kicks to be much sharper. Carrie Ann was impressed with the dance, especially with the cuter concept.

Scores: 5 | 5 | 5 = 15/30. I thought it was pretty average.

-

Charity & Artem: She is SO PRETTY *.* I know people get tired of Bachelorettes but they seem to deliver all the time so I won't be mad if the dances are good.

She's also really good! I like that we're getting a solid crop of dances despite the rough start. Bruno raved for the tango and thought she did extremely well for a Week 1 dance. Carrie Ann was also impressed with the dance and thought she needed to work on her performance quality. Derek agreed in terms of the performance, but thought she did an exquisite job.

Scores: 7 | 7 | 8 = 22/30. Not me agreeing with Bruno :o

-

Matt & Koko: Never seen Veep  I love that he brought Koko flowers, I thought this was wholesome

Well... this was insanely slow. I'm glad they're having fun though! Carrie Ann thought the dance showed off his personality despite the subpar technique. Derek commended his facial expressions and admitted that he forgot to watch the dance. Bruno loved the individuality of the dance and thought it was entertaining.

Scores: 4 | 4 | 4 = 12/30. Yeah the dance was something for sure.

-

Ariana & Pasha: Haven't seen Vanderpump Rules but I know about the controversy. I'm hoping we got some good dances here.

Surprised this is the only foxtrot. This was very flowy and it showed off her personality - I'm impressed! Derek loved the flow shown in the dancing but wanted more work in the choreography. Bruno loved her focus and commitment but wanted her to watch her feet so that she doesn't wobble. Carrie Ann loved the sentiment of the whole dance and thought she owned the dance.

Scores: 7 | 7 | 7 = 21/30. I'm getting dark horse vibes from her. Finally Pasha gets a break!

-

Unfortunately..... similar to last season, we're getting a Week 1 elimination, and those things are never pretty.

Safe are...

Jamie Lynn & Alan!

Harry & Rylee!

Adrian & Britt!

Barry & Peta!

Mira & Gleb!

Charity & Artem!

Ariana & Pasha!

Jason & Daniella!

Xochitl & Val!

Lele & Brandon!

Alyson & Sasha!

and.....

Tyson & Jenna!

Definitely some shocks but ultimately the bottom 2 seems likely.

Bottom 2: Mauricio & Emma, Matt & Koko

Eliminated: Matt & Koko

I'm surprised they're not doing a judge's save. That has been probably the saving grace for the past few seasons and leaving it back up to the audience feels like a downgrade. Fearing for Lele and Charity's chances at this point bc they might end up being robbed queens

-

Next Week: Latin Night is back! And following the revelations made this episode I am very scared for what's to come.

Dance Ranking:

8 | 1.) Charity & Artem

8 | 2.) Lele & Brandon

7 | 3.) Ariana & Pasha

7 | 4.) Jason & Daniella

7 | 5.) Mira & Gleb

6 | 6.) Xochitl & Val

6 | 7.) Barry & Peta

6 | 8.) Adrian & Britt

5 | 9.) Mauricio & Emma

5 | 10.) Jamie Lynn & Alan

4 | 11.) Alyson & Sasha

4 | 12.) Tyson & Jenna

4 | 13.) Harry & Rylee

3 | 14.) Matt & Koko

tbf his dance was a trainwreck so even if there was a judges' save I don't think he would have been picked, but some people are speculating that he threatened to drop out of the season out of fear that he wasn't complying with the WGA strike?

Ariana to win!! I thought her first performance was AMAZING! I knew she could dance, we’ve seen it on Vanderpump Rules but WOW!

Mauricio however. Eek.

I think Ariana could be in for a while, but she’s not the most well known name so I’m not exactly quite sure how far she will go.

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!! Make sure you watch the VOD on Disney+!

Live from Hollywood, Latin Night is back on Dancing With The Stars! We're getting a ton of fiery dances and steaming hot moments, as is customary for this week. Alfonso announces that Artem tested positive for COVID, which means Ezra Sosa from last season's troupe is there to fill in!

(scores: Carrie Ann | Derek | Bruno)

-

Lele & Brandon: Lele takes Brandon to Miami to show him a little Venezuelan party. She's glad to be dancing to Gasolina as it's one of the songs she's known for on TikTok.

I love Lele's pants! Once again she killed it, but do the judges agree? Derek loved that she showed off the flair and thinks the energy, while chaotic at times, can be controlled. Bruno challenges them to polish the details. Carrie Ann compliments Brandon's choreography and admires how Lele commits to every move.

Also Julianne is doing super well tonight!

Scores: 7 | 7 | 7 = 21/30. Nice start to Latin Night!

-

Tyson & Jenna: I never knew Tyson had Panamanian roots. That's neat.

Every time I hear "Aguanile" I keep thinking about America's Best Dance Crew so that has a high bar to reach. This dance is.... very lift heavy. Sure it gets the crowd moving but the footwork still leaves much to the imagination. Bruno thought it was a nice improvement from last week. Carrie Ann thought he owned the dance floor and complimented his chemistry with Jenna. Derek tells him he needs to loosen up his legs but he's a great partner for Jenna.

Derek is also going on tour!!!!!

Scores: 6 | 6 | 6 = 18/30. A six-point improvement!

-

Barry & Peta: I'm really glad that he felt at home with performing. You can tell he's at ease when he does what he does. He also turned 69 over the course of the week.

I'm sorry every time they come on stage they bring a smile to my face. It's a very classic dance. He almost dropped her at the ending pose but they worked so well in the dance. Carrie Ann thought he had a good means to project his confidence but she doesn't think it was a good as last week. Derek feels at ease with watching them dance, and he gives him a little trick of the trade in the process. Bruno wants his movements to be more connected and less staccato.

Alfonso also announces that Michael Strahan will be a guest judge for Motown Night next week!

Scores: 5 | 5 | 5 = 15/30. All that for a little slip?

-

Adrian & Britt: Britt wants him to channel more of his family man type happiness in the samba

Well... that start was rough. It was also not bouncy. Derek loved the joy he brought in the dance but thought the partner work was a bit blocky. He was also inconsistent with his rhythm. Bruno commended his effort but thought it needed to soften up. Carrie Ann thought he was committed to every move in the dance but thinks there needs to be more refinement in the dance.

Scores: 4 | 4 | 4 = 12/30. He thinks that this show will give him a challenge.

-

Mira & Gleb: Mira gets to dedicate this dance to a good friend of her's.

She moves really well! I love the contrasts between her soft movements and a spicy atmosphere, but she looks very lost and lacked confidence. Bruno thought she did what she did despite a few mistakes. Carrie Ann thought her confidence was inconsistent, and when that dips down so does her technique. Derek thinks she should lead into the steps more.

Scores: 6 | 6 | 6 = 18/30. Finally a competition! I think I might have to stan 😳

-

Xochitl & Val: Xochitl reveals that she's scared of heights, and Val wants to incorporate a few jumps and falls into the choreography.

They move so well together! I loved how fun it was and I thought they kept the energy up throughout the dance. Carrie Ann thought they had a nice rhythm and chemistry. Derek thought she sold the performance and complimented her extensions and eye contact. Bruno thought they burned the dance floor up.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 = 24/30. Highest score so far!

-

Ariana & Pasha: Ariana feels more at ease now that the first dance is over. I love that she wants to challenge herself with each passing week.

Her facial expressions are making the dance! I thought her samba could use work but it was a nice dance. Derek thought her showmanship was great with the camera but thought her technique could still need some polishing. Bruno thought the dance was sexy, but saw that she missed a step at one point. Carrie Ann wants her to finish her movements.

Scores: 6 | 7 | 7 = 20/30. Weird how I'm agreeing with Carrie Ann on this one.

-

Mauricio & Emma: I still think they need to keep the judges' save. Mauricio wants to perform a dance that reminds him of his childhood, and Emma wants to change tactics to go for a more classic salsa.

Ten seconds in and we already got a death defying flip :drama: That was probably the only thing that went right. He forgot choreography and lost the timing. A LOT. The judges still think he could bounce back despite losing the footwork and messing up the choreography. Carrie Ann comparing him to Kelly Monaco was a stretch though... she had a wardrobe malfunction. This was not the same. Derek compliments his neck lifts.

Scores: 4 | 4 | 4 = 12/30. That seems about right. YIKES YIKES YIKES.

-

Alyson & Sasha: Alyson thinks Latin music has a lot of energy but she's unsure if she's gonna control her energy with that tango.

She is holding on to Sasha for DEAR LIFE  For the most part it seems to be working in her favor. Carrie Ann thought she was empowered and embodied the dance, then tells her to loosen up her shoulders. Derek thought the technique was there and it was a massive improvement from the previous week. Bruno thought her focus and character were on point.

Scores: 7 | 6 | 6 = 19/30. Nah but those 6's were right.

-

Charity & Ezra: Artem is out of commission with COVID, so we're bringing in Ezra to fill in! I'm so happy for this pairing.

Charity's facials are also amazing! Her body language was also on point and she sold the dance. It could have been a bit better but we'll have to credit that to having to get used to a new partner. Derek compliments the two of them for doing well despite the circumstances, but thinks they need to work more on connecting. Bruno thought the poses were precise but she needed to relax a bit. Carrie Ann thought that the dancing was tight (possibly too tight) but also thought they did well considering everything.

Scores: 7 | 7 | 7 = 21/30. Great job Ezra!

-

Harry & Rylee Harry thought the scores last week were disheartening and hopes that he doesn't ruin it for Rylee.

They look like Barbie and Ken  The dance was........ something, but you can tell that he's actually trying. Bruno needs him to work on the hip action. Carrie Ann tells him that it's okay to be a beginner and want to improve, and then compliments his eye contact. Derek thought Harry did well with the difficult lifts, but tells him (and pretty much everyone) that they're ahead of the music.

Scores: 5 | 5 | 5 = 15/30. Another improvement!

-

Jamie Lynn & Alan: Jamie Lynn hopes that Latin Night will get her to unlock more of her potential and she thinks that this dance will bring out the sexy in her.

It's giving drunk white girl  Carrie Ann thought she needed to improve her lines, Derek thought she needed better timing, and Bruno thought she needed more confidence and refinement. Derek also adds that softball moms can be hot. Okay Derek, but this dance is ANYTHING but hot.

Scores: 6 | 5 | 5 = 16/30. Okay there is NO WAY this deserved a 6.

-

Jason & Daniella: With Jason being a front runner, he's feeling a bit of the pressure. I have faith in Daniella.

Jason has probably the best hip action of the night. Daniella ate as usual. Derek thought his control and technique was on point for the rumba and Bruno thought he nailed everything. Carrie Ann saw a slight slip at the end, but regardless, thought the dance was exquisite and fit the mood.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 = 24/30. This guy is FOR SURE a front runner.

-

Safe are...

Alyson & Sasha!

Lele & Brandon!

Tyson & Jenna!

Charity & Ezra!

Harry & Rylee!

Ariana & Pasha!

Mira & Gleb!

Xochitl & Val!

Jason & Daniella!

Barry & Peta!

and.....

Mauricio & Emma!

Literally how did Mauricio dodge the bottom 2???

Bottom 2: Jamie Lynn & Alan, Adrian & Britt

Eliminated: Jamie Lynn & Alan

BRING BACK JUDGES' SAVES. Like this was the correct elimination based on who was the bottom 2, but how did Mauricio not end up bottom 2???

-

Next Week: Michael Strahan joins the judges panel as the fourth judge for Motown Night!

Dance Ranking:

8 | 1.) Jason & Daniella

7 | 2.) Xochitl & Val

7 | 3.) Lele & Brandon

7 | 4.) Charity & Ezra

6 | 5.) Mira & Gleb

6 | 6.) Alyson & Sasha

6 | 7.) Barry & Peta

6 | 8.) Ariana & Pasha

5 | 9.) Harry & Rylee

5 | 10.) Jamie Lynn & Alan

5 | 11.) Tyson & Jenna

5 | 12.) Adrian & Britt

4 | 13.) Mauricio & Emma

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!! Make sure you watch the VOD on Disney+!

Live from Hollywood, it's a very late Dancing With The Stars Motown Night live vlog! I've been really busy throughout the beginning of this week so I'm here recapping the VOD on Disney+ :) This week, Michael Strahan joins the judges' panel as the couples dance to popular Motown smashes.

Also can I just say... the opening dances have been absolutely FIRE this season!

(scores: Carrie Ann | Derek | Michael Strahan | Bruno)

-

Barry & Peta: Barry is from this era, so he's feeling himself this week. Hopefully he gets his head in the game for Motown Night.

Barry is a showman, for sure. His facial expressions really sell the dance, and he's serious when needed and fun when necessary. It was a slow-ish dance for sure, but definitely an improvement from last week. Derek mentions that he won over the audience and that his timing was impeccable, yet Barry needed to work on consistency in his frame. Michael first compared him to a matador and saw his desire and fight. Bruno thought he cleaned up the routine nicely. Carrie Ann thought his confidence came back this week.

Scores: 6 | 6 | 7 | 6 = 25/40. Barry believes he's feeling the spirit of former DWTS contestant, the late Florence Henderson.

Also, this is why we need four judges!

-

Lele & Brandon: The couple has decided to work on refining the technique and showing off her control.

He wanna F-R-EEEEEEE-AK! I'm definitely seeing improvements in the technique but not so much in the face department? Michael thought her dance had a nice balance between extremes. Bruno saaw a few balance checks, but thought the dance was fiery. Carrie Ann thinks she's "hypermobile" and thinks the steps need more control. Derek saw a bit of nerves from her but thinks she has the potential to do great things in the show.

Scores: 7 | 6 | 7 | 7 = 27/40. Staying pretty consistent.

-

Mauricio & Emma: He was a HOT MESS last week, can he recover well for this foxtrot? He also revealed that the Real Housewives trailer released right before the dance and it messed him up mentally.

This dance was......... 50/50. Pretty nice moments, but any time he moved across that dance floor it was like Emma was carrying a mannequin  Then again I'm used to Emma carrying dances, I shouldn't be surprised. Bruno tells him that he respects the amount of work he puts in the dance and concentrating on the frame. It was a nice recovery, for sure. Carrie Ann thought it was smooth and elegant, Derek thought he recovered well mentally despite the technique still needing work, and Michael gave him some encouraging words on bouncing back.

Scores: 7 | 5 | 6 | 5 = 23/40. It was DEFINITELY better than last week.

-

Jason & Daniella: Can he keep up this momentum after a spicy rumba? Jive is a stamina-induced dance but he's willing to take on the challenge.

Every time I hear this I think about DWTS Juniors and how nervous Sophia Pippen was  Daniella has a knack for making somewhat simple choreography look refined and difficult, yet easy enough to want to dance to at the same time. Jason definitely nailed it! Carrie Ann saw the improvement despite him being a front runner, and Derek thought his facial expressions sold the number. Michael loved that he was light on his feet, and Bruno thought he told the story with the dance.

Scores: 9 | 8 | 9 | 8 = 34/40. Umm...... okay Carrie Ann

-

Alyson & Sasha: Alyson decides to dedicate this dance to her children, and she hopes it brings a ton of confidence for her.

I'm not sure about the set design for this song but who knows at this point  There were a couple times where she seemed to slip out of frame but other than that I was delightfully impressed! Derek thought the frame needed more work but he could see her gaining more confidence. Michael felt joy watching the dance, Bruno thought she had a solid performance, and Carrie Ann thinks she's on her way. Everyone seems to believe that her technique still needs work.

Scores: 6 | 6 | 6 | 6 = 24/40. Definitely a high 6. Also glad she managed to get better after feeling sick the morning of!

-

Tyson & Jenna: First week in frame! He's feeling excited about dancing to a Stevie Wonder song.

He is still very shaky, and his posture needs a LOT of work. He still looks hella nervous. Michael thought Tyson thought it wasn't as smooth as he wanted it to be. Bruno definitely saw the posture problems. Carrie Ann can see him having fun and connecting with the audience and Jenna. Derek thinks he needs to work on frame and posture but can also see Tyson's joy.

Scores: 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 = 20/40. Tyson is too funny  his plea for votes made me laugh

-

Charity & Artem: Yaaaaaay Artem's back! I'm surprised his quarantine period wasn't as long as previous quarantine periods.

So glad Artem's back so we can get routines choc full of content  Now THIS is a quality dance! She looked beautiful, her posture was impeccable and she glided across that floor with ease. Bruno called the dance "gold standard" and appreciated that Charity made the dance look easy. Carrie Ann saw more pizazz and thought she looked like a princess. Derek pointed out that her left arm needed to be more parallel but thought her dance was gorgeous, and Michael compared her dance to a smooth, flowy river.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 = 32/40. I thought it deserved a 9 but whatever.

-

Mira & Gleb: They got "Let's Get It On" :drama: :drama: :drama: Lord have mercy. Gleb believes Mira's acting is her strong suit and thinks she can pull off sexy well.

I'm pretty sure you don't down martinis like that, but another solid dance from her. There were times where she still seemed unsure of herself. That caress of the face though? Chef's kiss! Carrie Ann thinks she needs to keep in character but thought her leg lines were there. Derek thinks she needs more energy and focus. Michael shifts things in a more positive direction, and Bruno loved the playfulness from her delivery.

Scores: 6 | 6 | 7 | 7 = 26/40. Was it the absolute best that she could be? No. Was it better than a good chunk of dances we've seen this season? Yeah.

-

Ariana & Pasha: Ariana dedicates this dance to her father, who passed away before her Vanderpump Rules appearance.

The quickstep is a very fast dance footwork-wise, and it's easy to lose track of the steps. I think Ariana handled the speed well, it did feel gangly at times, but she worked it well. Derek thought she glided through the floor effortlessly but wanted to keep connected. Michael thought she had great form and he could see the joy in her face. Bruno loved the old school feel of the dance, and Carrie Ann thought Ariana did very well with improving and refining her choreography.

Scores: 9 | 8 | 9 | 8 = 34/40. Nice fun and clean dance.

-

Adrian & Britt Britt decides to treat Adrian's quickstep training like football, then tells him he has no excuse this time.

This was a weird dance. It didn't feel as strong as it could have been, and I think his footwork still needs a LOT of work, but his posture was there. Michael loved seeing Adrian push himself with learning the dance. Bruno thought Adrian comprehended the choreography well. Carrie Ann saw improvement yet thought the positives (the improvement) and negatives (frame) balanced themselves out. Derek thought it was his best dance, despite the technical issues.

Scores: 5 | 5 | 6 | 6 = 22/40. Those 6's might have saved him idk.

-

Harry & Rylee: Rylee turns into a drill sergeant for this week's rehearsal....... and it just feels so much like her sister.

The drags are starting to make me nervous with Carrie Ann on some kind of crack, but I think Harry handled it well. Why am I enjoying this dance so much? Sure it wasn't perfect. But I think he did a... mostly solid performance? Bruno applauded there was more content and thought Harry committed to every dance, but he needs to work on his musicality. Carrie Ann also sees his improvement considering his lack of experience but agrees with Bruno on musicality. Derek enjoyed the dance as a fan but then tells Harry to work on his timing. Michael thought Harry's hip action was for sure visible.

Scores: 6 | 5 | 7 | 6 = 24/40. That shouldn't have a 7 but whatever

-

Xochitl & Val: I'm wondering how she's gonna tackle this theme being a mid-2000's baby.

Xochitl's youth is definitely a superpower in this show. She's selling the part and she definitely looks timeless. This is also one of the more put together foxtrots this week. It's giving Laurie Hernandez kinda. Carrie Ann thought she leaped in and out of character well and thought Xochitl had great body contact but noticed a small misstep. Derek thought she displayed a ton of grace and charisma. Michael loved that she felt comfortable with the dance. Bruno thought her musicality clicked when they attacked the foxtrot content.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 = 32/40. I don't know why they keep referencing Jamie Lynn Spears as a shock when she was barely midtable but I don't think it applies to Xochitl and Val so we're good.

-

Safe are...

Ariana & Pasha!

Mira & Gleb!

Adrian & Britt!

Xochitl & Val!

Charity & Artem!

Jason & Daniella!

Lele & Brandon

and.....

Mauricio & Emma!

Bottom 3: Tyson & Jenna, Alyson & Sasha, Harry & Rylee

Surprised we got a bottom 3 this time...

Eliminated: Tyson & Jenna

Yet another correct elimination. I could feel Harry nearly self-combusting at his realization that he's at the bottom 3

-

Next Week: Disney Night is back to celebrate the studio's centennial! Will there be an elimination? Or will they save that for the next week?

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!! Make sure you watch the VOD on Disney+!

Live from Hollywood, it's Disney Night on Dancing With The Stars! This week, we celebrate 100 years of Disney magic as the couples dance to amazing songs highlighting the different eras of Disney. It all kicks off with an opening dance to "We Don't Talk About Bruno", featuring some neat flamenco dancers!

(scores: Carrie Ann | Derek | Michael Strahan | Bruno)

-

Mauricio & Emma - Fantasia: This is a very inspired choice! Gonna be interesting to see how that translates into a ballroom dance.

I thought his facial expressions were nice but... his footwork still feels very stiff and almost like he's chasing the beat. It did feel very Fantasia though and he brought a lot of personality into it. Derek likened his dance to an "adorable matador", Bruno wants him to work on his extensions, and Carrie Ann thinks he's holding on to his improvement.

Scores: 7 | 6 | 6 = 19/30. Apparently Mauricio's prep for the dance involved looking at Derek Hough dances for inspiration.

-

Mira & Gleb - Cinderella: As soon as I saw Mira walk down with that sky blue dress I knew it was gonna be Cinderella. Man she looks AMAZING in that dress.

A classical waltz is so much different from a Viennese Waltz but it fits this era of Disney so much. I definitely get dreamy vibes from Mira. She SOLD this number HANDS DOWN. Bruno thinks ballroom suits her and wants her to trust herself more. Carrie Ann thought she gave queen energy and thought Mira felt more sure of herself. Derek had been waiting for Mira to do a ballroom number because he thought the classiness suits her, and she delivered.

Scores: 7 | 7 | 7 = 21/30. I didn't even notice the splint on her wrist area! I hope she's okay!

-

Barry & Peta - Lady And The Tramp: Barry has revealed that he trained with Bob Fosse, and this jazz dance will bring in a lot of those elements. Peta thinks this will be good for him.

It was going so well until Peta tried that assisted cartwheel on him :o OH GOD. However, everything else was so much fun and you can tell he enjoys this style of dance. Carrie Ann saw the mistakes but thought his charm and charisma helped carry the dance. Derek loved his calm nature and showmanship. Bruno thought he covered up the cartwheel flub well.

Scores: 6 | 6 | 6 = 18/30. Barry mentions that Fosse helped introduce him to jazz and he's grateful for that experience.

-

Jason & Daniella - Aladdin: Jason mentions that the fireworks in "The Remedy" referred to the fireworks display in Disneyland. I did not know that.

This is his first ballroom dance and I already had high hopes considering his journey so far. It was a tad weaker than his previous dances but still an incredibly strong performance from them. Daniella is truly a miracle worker. Derek loved Jason's transformation and gives him some tips to improve the flow of the dance. Bruno loved his control and thought the dance was very regal. Carrie Ann loved the switch-up and noticed that he wasn't as confident as before, but she loved his extensions and pointed feet.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 = 24/30. Like I said, a solid dance.

-

Lele & Brandon - The Lion King: He wants a more romantic rumba... I'm getting Tinashe flashbacks. Lele hopes that this dance will give her more confidence and prove herself.

Another solid dance from them! While I think the hip action could be more pronounced, I thought she glided through the dance well. Bruno was glad that she applied the corrections; her focus and extensions were great. Carrie Ann loved the balance and posture, and mentions that she needed to wing her feet to help with pointing her feet, and also cuts Derek off to point out a lift!

Scores: 7 | 7 | 8 = 22/30. Fantastic improvement! I just wish we got Derek's commentary :(

-

Alyson & Sasha - Beauty & The Beast: They are paying tribute to the Broadway production with a full on Jazz number! He also brings in Selma Blair from last season as a special guest for rehearsal! I absolutely loved every moment of it!

Sasha is supposed to be Cogsworth  It's definitely fun and put a smile on my face, but I feel like her legs and feet got worse as the dance went on. She needs to work on her energy. Carrie Ann thought that she was very animated but also believed that she lost the musicality. Derek was disappointed that there wasn't that much content but her stage presence sold it. Bruno thinks the dance needed to click more with her but she knows how to sell a number.

Scores: 6 | 6 | 6 = 18/30. She's adorable  I really hope she stays

-

Harry & Rylee - Toy Story: I LOVEEEE that Rylee is Bo Peep in this dance! Harry pays tribute to his friend with this dance.

He was hanging on BY A THREAD  Definitely a cute dance but oh GOSH does his technique need work. Derek felt a connection between Harry and the dance and thought his hold was nice. Bruno thought he felt more at ease despite technical issues. Carrie Ann thought he was more relaxed this dance.

Scores: 7 | 7 | 7 = 21/30. Harry absolutely LOVES having Rylee as a partner. The Arnolds have a knack for making the experience so much better for their partners.

-

Xochitl & Val - Coco: Didn't Val already do a Coco dance? Xochitl loves this song so much and wants to do it justice.

I absolutely LOVE a good Val Paso Doble, and this is no different. This has the right amount of energy and sharpness in a Paso and they absolutely NAILED THAT DANCE! Bruno thought they never lost the feel of the dance despite it being much faster than normal. Carrie Ann thought Xochitl displayed her power very well and thought it was animated and fun - perfect for Disney Night! Derek thought she was an artist out there and that her dance was enjoyable.

Scores: 9 | 9 | 9 = 27/30. Highest of the night so far! Absolutely deserved!

-

Adrian & Britt - Dumbo (Live Action): I......... don't remember the Dumbo live action. I think that's for the best  Britt challenges Adrian to show a softer side of himself with this Viennese Waltz.

Still a bit stiff at times, but much better than the last two weeks! Carrie Ann thought it was much more refined and it showed with his extensions and demeanor. Derek loved his transformation and dedication to the dance - it was a nice dynamic. Bruno thought he took the corrections well. All four judges seem to be moved by that dance.

Scores: 7 | 7 | 7 = 21/30. Kinda think those 7's were right.

-

Ariana & Pasha - Frozen 2: Our first Contemporary piece! It's new ground for her but she thinks she can pull it off.

Oh she is SELLING this number! The lift was great, her energy was on point, and she interpreted the dance beautifully. Derek appreciated the bit of showmanship with her camera work. Bruno felt her work ethic and determination in the dance and it showed with the technique and charisma. Carrie Ann thought she told the story well but wanted a bit more freedom and angst to fit the character.

Scores: 8 | 9 | 8 = 25/30. Derek on point as usual.

-

Charity & Artem - The Little Mermaid (Live Action): They're dancing to Halle's version of "Part Of Your World"! Artem thinks that Charity is nice and sweet but wants more dramatization in the waltz. Charity wants to dance for girls like her who want to see that representation.

This dance was IT. Her technique was fantastic and you can tell that she trusts Artem as a dance partner. That look they gave each other? PRICELESS. Bruno thought the dance really clicked as soon as they got on hold. Carrie Ann believed that she did the dance justice, and Derek thought her consistency is inspiring and that she applied corrections from before.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 = 24/30. Julianne talks about who she's competitive with, and Charity responds that she gets in her head a lot. Truth

-

Disney Night DELIVERED!

Safe are...

Harry & Rylee! The showmance edit is paying off

Mauricio & Emma!

Xochitl & Val!

Mira & Gleb!

Charity & Artem!

Ariana & Pasha!

and.....

Alyson & Sasha!

Bottom 3: Adrian & Britt, Lele & Brandon, Barry & Peta

Okay, surely Barry & Peta aren't leaving this soon? And I know Lele has been underperforming but damn how are Mauricio and Emma avoiding the line of fire?

Eliminated: Adrian & Britt

Wow we're really hitting home runs with these eliminations huh? I am perfectly fine with Adrian leaving early.

Another thing of note is that Alfonso and Julianne mentioned that there will be a judges' save this season. Now I'm not sure if it will work like American Idol where they can only save one couple in the season or if it will return next week and be a recurring thing? Who knows? I'm just glad it's coming back.

-

Next Week: Current and former pros return for a Len Goodman tribute, so get ready because the tears are gonna flow

9 | 4.) Ariana & Pasha

9 | 3.) Xochitl & Val

7 | 5.) Lele & Brandon

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!! Make sure you watch the VOD on Disney+!

Live from Hollywood, it's Most Memorable Year Night on Dancing With The Stars! This week, the 10 remaining couples dance to routines inspired by each celebrity's most memorable year! This week also doubles as a Len Goodman tribute night featuring a whole slew of DWTS pros, both current and former. Who will crash and burn and who will soar higher than before, and who will bring Carrie Ann to tears first?

(scores: Carrie Ann | Derek | Michael Strahan | Bruno)

-

Mira & Gleb - 2004: This was the year Mira had her first child and got to start a family, something she had been dreaming of for a while. Her daughter is currently in a renowned dance company and will be joining her for this one! She also gets to dance to "Time After Time", which will certainly remind people of Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion

With her doing a contemporary, I am paying close attention to her legs and feet, and it looks like her dancer daughter gave her some tips and they worked! She kept those feet pointed the entire time! There really wasn't much content wise, but she kept up with the choreography and the technique looked good. Derek felt a lot of joy watching the performance and also loved the bits and pieces of content. Bruno loved the ballet and lyrical content but needs her to connect with her core on lifts. Carrie Ann thought that she brought a lot of emotion into something comedic and it made her feel free.

Scores: 7 | 8 | 7 = 22/30. Mira expresses how proud she is of her daughter and grateful that she got to share this moment with her.

-

Ariana & Pasha - 2023: Pretty much every Real Housewives/Vanderpump Rules star knows about the whole cheating scandal and she expresses how it messed her up mentally but she brought herself up and now she's here. Love to see it.

She glides on that floor so gracefully yet there's a lot of force in her movements. I do think she could do more when it comes to her facial expressions but it's yet another solid dance! Bruno thought the dance gave a good lesson on perseverance and Carrie Ann thought she helped empower women with the feel of the dance. However, she thought that the waltz didn't have that driving force. Derek saw a slight stumble but otherwise she did fantastic.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 = 24/30. She tells the audience that she wishes her grandmother was here and thought she would be proud to see her here.

-

Charity & Artem - 2022: She had a tumultuous year with graduating grad school and getting on The Bachelor which opened more doors for her, but before she had just gotten out of a toxic relationship. They hope this dance will get to be a cathartic experience for her and she shows some gratitude to her now fiancé.

Charity has the upper body strength and balance to handle that jungle gym, and she slayed that prop with ease. Great technique, fantastic musicality, she looks great and feels great, what else can I ask? Carrie Ann applauded the duo for handling the prop well and predicted the dance would be one to define the season. Derek commended her commitment to using the prop and her trust in Artem, and it helped sell the number. Bruno thought the concept was spot on and brought home the feelings of being trapped and breaking free.

Scores: 10 | 9 | 9 = 28/30. First 10's of the season!!!!

-

Alyson & Sasha - 2003: The year she met her husband! She expresses that marrying her was the best moment she ever had.

I like that they used the umbrella not only for story purposes but to also help Alyson get into pace with her frame and the musicality, and it showed in that first half of the dance. Definitely her best dance so far! Derek felt her intention and thought her neck line improved a lot, though she still needs to work with her timing. Bruno thought that the expression of love helped her connect with the dance because it gave her motivation to perform better. Carrie Ann saw a moment where she looked at her husband and set the tone for the dance.

Scores: 7 | 7 | 7 = 21/30. Fantastic improvement! I just wish we got Derek's commentary :(

-

Harry & Rylee - 2020: Too Hot To Handle made its debut on Netflix in 2020, smack dab in the early days of the pandemic. Not only was he part of that inaugural season, but eyes were heavily on him because it was fueled by pandemic cabin fever. It really shows the ramifications of a toxic fandom powered by the negativity circulating in a convection current thanks to the pandemic. What he faced was absolutely disgusting and stan Twitter should be ashamed of themselves.

I feel like he's overthinking the dance. He just needed to loosen up and I think it would have made the moves more natural to him. Bruno warns him to watch his lifts and he needs to work on his musicality. Carrie Ann thought the dance was a step back for him; he does better when dancing with Rylee... not so much solo. Derek thinks the big moments were great but thought the transitions need work. The consensus seems to be that they're great together and they're doing well as a partnership.

Scores: 6 | 6 | 6 = 18/30. Harry's "please vote for us" was hilarious 😂

-

Jason & Daniella - 1999: And I thought it was gonna be the year "I'm Yours" became the most overplayed song on the planet  A decade prior, he got the courage to hit the road and start his career. The quickstep is gonna make me nervous huh :drama:

I really appreciate his showmanship. That's one of the things that has stayed consistent throughout his stint on the show. His footwork was a lot cleaner than I expected, and he definitely improved his frame. Carrie Ann thought their partnership was on fire and thought it felt like music notes floating on a sheet of music. She thought he had the best technique but there was a wobble. Derek was impressed by Jason's growth, and Bruno thought the dance was smooth and agreed with Derek that there was a lot of quality content.

Scores: 9 | 9 | 9 = 27/30. I didn't know Jason did the vocals for that dance!

-

Lele & Brandon - 2020: Lele released a docuseries talking about her mental health, which was inspired by one of her fans telling her that she took the necessary steps to get therapy. She also got a visit from her husband who helped her with finding that happiness inside her.

Technically, she isn't the strongest in the cast, but she brought it when it came to her musicality and body language. Derek thought it was a beautiful tribute to her husband and is proud of how much she has progressed throughout the dance. Bruno saw her vulnerability and thought it was all it took. Carrie Ann thought it was her best dance, praised her pointed feet, and applauded Lele's ability to control the crowd.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 = 24/30. I loved Lele's courage to put herself out like that and it was a beautiful showing.

-

Xochitl & Val - Frozen 2: She was so young when she landed Multiverse Of Madness, so young that she missed her quinceañera because she was busy filming the movie. So she's getting it TONIGHT.

It did feel a bit rocky at times but other times it was divine and it encapsulated that youthful vibe she has going for her. Bruno thought that the dance was stunning and with the difficulty of the dance combined with subtle touches Val added, everything came together. Carrie Ann thought her transitions were great and Xochitl kept the pace throughout (despite another wobble... really Carrie Ann???). Derek didn't see a wobble, but instead saw something almost princess-like.

Scores: 9 | 10 | 9 = 28/30. I'm fine with this score.

-

Mauricio & Emma - 1996: He was at rock bottom - he was fired from his job and broke with two kids, and then he got into real estate. After the last couple dances I'm worried about this contemporary. But Emma can deliver when she wants to so I'll keep some home.

A lot better than I was expecting. There were times where it felt like Emma was dancing around him but other times he kept up. A bit of a polarizing dance. Carrie Ann thought he didn't hold back all throughout the dance. Derek thought Mauricio recovered well after his big blunder 2 weeks ago. Bruno thought he gave his all and it showcased his honesty.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 = 24/30. Really??? It was is best for sure but worthy of 8's? I don't think so

-

Barry & Peta - 1968: This was right before he booked The Brady Bunch. He was a motorcycle aficionado but even with him becoming this teen idol, he never lost that love for the wind in his hair. I respect that honestly.

This dance makes me happy for some reason. He definitely was feeling his matador fantasy. The steps were catered to him and matched him well, and he brought the energy - his best dance yet!

Derek loved the way he commanded the audience, and makes a note that Len would have loved that type of dance. Bruno thought he fit the tone of the dance and it was spot-on and clean. Carrie Ann applauded him for performing a high octane and technically challenging dance.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 = 24/30. He is shining BRIGHT!!!

-

This was a fun night. But will the eliminations fit the vibe?

Safe are...

Ariana & Pasha!

Barry & Peta! :cheer: :cheer:

Lele & Brandon!

Mauricio & Emma!

Xochitl & Vall!

Charity & Artem!

and.....

Jason & Daniella!

Bottom 3: Mira & Gleb, Alyson & Sasha, Harry & Rylee

Interesting bottom 3. This is kinda what I expected.

Eliminated: Mira & Gleb

So this is our first shock elimination, mostly bc she scored higher than the other two. However, there was no way Harry & Rylee were going home just yet

-

Next Week: The live show takes place smack dab during Halloween, so we get a nice little Monster Night to cap it all off!

Dance Ranking:

9 | 1.) Charity & Artem

9 | 2.) Xochitl & Val

9 | 3.) Jason & Daniella

8 | 4.) Ariana & Pasha

8 | 5.) Lele & Brandon

8 | 6.) Mira & Gleb

8 | 7.) Barry & Peta

7 | 8.) Alyson & Sasha

7 | 9.) Mauricio & Emma

6 | 10.) Harry & Rylee

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!! Make sure you watch the VOD on Disney+!

Live from Hollywood, it's a very late Monster Night coverage post on Dancing With The Stars, since I was busy on Halloween doing my thing in a Leon Kennedy costume :P Last year I thought it was really boring, but hopefully this will be different. We do have Denise Hemphill herself, Niecy Nash, as a guest judge this time and the dance-a-thon is back! Will we get a shock winner like Jessie & Alan last year?

Very fitting that Carrie Ann is dressed like the ice queen bc sometimes she can be a frigid bitch, but I digress

(scores: Carrie Ann | Derek | Niecy Nash | Bruno)

-

Jason & Daniella: He's already been considered a front runner by the judges, so that's a lot of pressure on his shoulders. They're doing a contemporary dance playing as zombies, and we get the very first lifts from Jason!

Already I love their levels and isolations, and Daniella is always a treasure to watch. Jason I thought was a little broken down but it worked in his favor. He was playing a zombie after all. Derek thought it was a fantastic performance despite the inconsistency with the energy side by side. Niecy thought Jason was a convincing zombie and loved the lifts. Bruno loved their connection but thought he almost missed a transition on the lifts. Carrie Ann calls Jason a chameleon and thought his fit the concept well but also pointed out that this might not have been his most focused performance.

Scores: 9 | 9 | 9 | 9 = 36/40. I'm more impressed that Jason was able to breathe and perform to the best of his ability with all that stage makeup. That must be HEAVY.

Also once again I'm seeing that the themes this week are very broad and don't have the classic movie references like in previous seasons. Oh boy..........

-

Alyson & Sasha: Alyson has played a vampire before, but can she play a vampire while doing a Paso Doble?

SUPERMASSIVE BLACK HOLE????? That would have been a perfect time to do a Twilight inspired dance! I thought the parts they had together were nice, but separately...... oh boy. Alyson's movements were robotic and I don't think she changed her face at all. Niecy thought she could have more grace when walking down the steps but she liked her energy. Bruno thought she kept up with the amount of content, but she needed to stay in character throughout the whole performance. Carrie Ann loved their teamwork and synergy and called it her best performances. There were still mistakes but she still delivered. Derek thought she kept the fierceness and warned her that better dancers are going home each time so she needs to step it up.

Scores: 7 | 7 | 7 | 8 = 29/40. Sasha takes the time to commend Alyson's work ethic and the audience applauds.

-

Xochitl & Val: So Val is taking inspiration from Moon Knight? Finally something more reminiscent of the older seasons!

That opening count was EXQUISITE. The way he removed that cloth to reveal Xochitl just felt RIGHT. I was worried about her feet and I do think the legs could have been straighter but she managed to fix it during the lifts. Those feet were POINTED. Bruno thought they set the tone well and the martial arts portions were a nice touch. Carrie Ann loved the power she put in the moves, and Derek said she took his breath away. Niecy commended her showmanship and professionalism after suffering an injury during the performance.

Also props to Julianne for not diving into Xochitl's injury.

Scores: 9 | 9 | 10 | 9 = 37/40. Apparently she scratched her knee at the end when he lifted her up onto the prop? I mean injuries are inevitable.

-

Harry & Rylee: Rylee has been a really good rock for Harry. Hopefully he pulls through the negativity and puts on a show. Also I might have dropped to my knees after seeing Lindsay come to the rescue :cheeseblock:

⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ STROBE WARNING ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️

Interesting that they're doing an Argentine Tango. This was an.... okay dance. The content was there. The lifts were decent. It wasn't spectacular and showstopping, but he did the job. Carrie Ann commends him for full sending the lifts. Derek gives him some advice to focus on the good moments on the show, and to listen to the critiques. He needs to breathe through the movements and use more space - he's 6'4". He manages to win a fan in Niecy and Bruno thinks he's improved.

Scores: 7 | 7 | 7 | 7 = 28/40. Julianne believes that the judges have faith in him if they're giving more constructive criticism.

-

Barry & Peta: Barry has been impressing me more and more, and I think a Viennese Waltz will help him take off more.

I like that Peta is using his showmanship and choreographing the dances to highlight that. The dance just came together nicely. The content was there and his performance level helps it more. Derek thought the character took away from the dance. Niecy thought the concept was spot on and Bruno commended him for never losing the timing. However, he needs to keep the technique consistent. Carrie Ann loved that he used the space well and commanded the stage.

Scores: 8 | 7 | 8 | 8 = 31/40. A solid score.

-

Ariana & Pasha: Ariana prides herself in committing to the bit every single Halloween, and honestly I respect that.

Already I think they've used more of the stage than most of the couples. Now THIS is a breakout dance. She nailed every single move, the tempo changes were exquisite, and their chemistry is to die for. Niecy loved her flicks and Bruno thought it was exemplary. Carrie Ann brings out her front runner alert for this dance, and Derek congratulated them for delivering a "true Argentine Tango".

Scores: 9 | 9 | 9 | 10 = 37/40. Side note: I love seeing Daniella cheering Ariana on.

-

Lele & Brandon: Lele seems like a fun person to be around during Halloween. That party must have been a true rager.

HELL YES A WEDNESDAY THEMED DANCE. She tore that dance UP. Her energy stayed consistent and she nailed every single step. Bruno called it a lethal Paso Doble and commended her for her control. Carrie Ann thinks that Lele needs to finish her moves and shapes. Derek thought that while the dance lacked refinement at times, it was another strong and solid dance. Niecy thought that her arms needed to be stronger but her footwork was on point.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 | 9 = 33/40. I love that every couple seems to be very happy with their scores.

-

Mauricio & Emma: He has this story where he sold Michael Jackson's old house and after some """shenanigans""" believed that Michael's spirit was still in that house.

Emma is truly a miracle worker. Same thing as Harry. Not the best dance in the world but he came in and did the job. Still needs work, but did the job. Carrie Ann thinks he needs more improvement in his posture. Derek thought his lines were great but the legs needed work. Niecy thought he looked hot. Bruno thought he did the moves but they weren't the right style. Very mixed reactions from the panel.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 7 | 8 = 31/40. How is it that Niecy was the one with sense here? The scores don't match the critiques.

-

Charity & Artem: Jive is a really taxing and stamina inducing dance. Charity thinks that the conditioning is helping her perform with this.

She brought in a little groove and personality into this dance! It was a bit slower than expected, but definitely a fun dance. Derek thought the concept and content worked together really well but Charity needed more power. Niecy agreed with Derek with the lack of power but has faith in her. Bruno loved the more comedic approach to the dance. Carrie Ann thought the dance was beautifully executed but thought the legs needed to be sharper.

Scores: 9 | 9 | 8 | 9 = 35/40. Charity is glad that they got the stamina but she's glad it's over for now.

-

It's Dance-a-thon time and they get to dance to two styles, one in a select space and the other using the whole floor.

This was a fun night. But will the eliminations fit the vibe?

Lele & Brandon!

and.....

A correct bottom 3.

THANK GOD!!!

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!! Make sure you watch the VOD on Disney+!

Live from Hollywood, it's Music Video Night on Dancing With The Stars! Guest judge Paula Abdul enters the ballroom as the remaining couples pay tribute to the most iconic music videos. Also, Team Dances are back! Which teams will rise to the occasion?

(scores: Carrie Ann | Derek | Paula Abdul | Bruno)

-

Lele & Brandon - Whenever, Wherever: Lele has met Shakira before. They both have collaborated with the Black Eyed Peas in separate eras. Interesting connection. Anyways.

This was a nice solid dance. The salsa could have been a bit fiercer but I thought the Shakira parts were great. I see a bit of "She Wolf" inspiration as well? Derek loved the isolations and hip action and thought she nailed the Shakira portion as well, but she needed to work on her transition in lifts. Paula also thought the dance blended salsa and Shakira and that she should be lighter on her feet. Bruno also thinks she should work on the lift transitions. Carrie Ann thought that this dance was what she was waiting for and that she worked the audience well.

Scores: 9 | 8 | 8 | 8 = 33/40. It was so cute seeing Lele almost tear up hearing Carrie Ann's comments. You can tell this was one that she has been waiting for.

-

Ariana & Pasha - I'm A Slave 4 U: A mid-season cha cha is always a risky move but I think Ariana can pull it off. I also love that she knows and wants to implement some of the original choreo.

The outfit is........... not it. I would have loved to see her in either leather sweats or jeans like in the actual video. However, she did do some of the choreo which was FANTASTIC while abridged. And the cha cha was so seductive and it channeled Britney perfectly. Paula applauded her for matching the pros energy and choreography. Bruno thought the cha cha content was great despite some wonky foot placement, and he and Carrie Ann thought the Britney parts were on point. Derek thought that the risk of dancing the same choreography as the pros paid off well because it showed off how good of a dancer she is.

Scores: 9 | 9 | 10 | 9 = 37/40. Nailed that dance! She did Britney well.

-

Harry & Rylee - It's Gonna Be Me: He was a guest in the Lance Bass podcast? Wow. Also so glad to see him back. I need him as a guest judge at some point. Really glad he got to teach Harry a bit of those new millennium moves.

Is it just me or is the timing more off than they normally are? It was half presentable and half a mess, but that cartwheel pass was SHOWSTOPPING. Bruno thought it was enjoyable but he was off sync at times. Carrie Ann was glad to see that he enjoyed himself during the dance but he lost the character halfway through the performance. Derek needs to see him connect a bit more with Rylee throughout the dance. Paula appreciated the vulnerability he showcases and she thinks the audience will eat them up.

Scores: 6 | 6 | 6 | 6 = 24/40. I just know his heart sank seeing those scores.

-

Jason & Daniella - Take On Me: Well at least it isn't "I'm Yours"   Daniella also sprained her ankle so props to Koko for assisting in the choreography.

Yeah this is when they should have done their Jive. Idk a Jazz dance to a song like this doesn't have the same kick as a Jive would. Carrie Ann loved that it was a true jazz dance but was a bit underwhelmed by how lowkey it was. Derek thought it felt more fitting to the earlier seasons but still thinks Jason has the potential to go far. Paula thinks they gave a great take to the video and that he didn't compromise any of the clarity or intent from the performance. Bruno thought they translated the video to stage well and that they never deviated from the story at hand.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 10 | 9 = 35/40. ...Paula????????

-

Alyson & Sasha - Candyman: "Candyman" is one of my all time favorite Christina Aguilera songs. The retro vibes are gonna suit Alyson well.

Quickstep? Eh. It's a bit too slow for a quickstep, definitely think jitterbug or lindy hop would have worked better for this song. This 1940's getup does suit her, and I think she pulled the content off nicely. She does look a bit unsure of herself still. Derek called it her best dance and that she held her own during the Xtina version. Paula commended them for doing a proper quickstep, and Bruno agreed. He also thought that the Christina parts were acted perfectly and that she fixed her corrections. Carrie Ann couldn't do much but agree with the panel.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 9 | 8 = 33/40. The 8's were right here.

-

Xochitl & Val - Hollaback Girl: I didn't know she was friends with Gianina from Dance Moms!!! Xochitl has managed to take some creative control with the concept while Val teaches the choreography.

She nailed Gwen perfectly! It just gave off America's Best Dance Crew vibes! Sucks that she dropped her hat but she performed like a PRO! Paula thought Xochitl captured Gwen's era well and that their chemistry was commendable. Bruno loved her charisma but thought the hat incident detracted a bit. Carrie Ann was glad that she covered up the flub well and it encapsulated a true performer. Derek thought the dance was great but there was a disconnect during the costume change.

Scores: 9 | 8 | 9 | 9 = 34/40. Scores are getting a bit harsher right now.

-

Charity & Artem - All For You: Janet is one of the most electrifying dancers in pop diva herstory. It is going to be a tough task indeed to evoke her charisma and sharpness.

This performance is so bubblegum and I LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT. This was such a nice take on 2000s Janet and she nailed it. Bruno thought her moves needed more sharpness but she got the spirit. Carrie Ann loved the choreography and staging, but thought it wasn't a believable Janet. Derek thought the dance was a pretty and precise dance despite it needing more energy. Paula agrees with the judges - the dancing is beautiful but if she utilized a bit more power she could be unstoppable.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 = 32/40. I thought it needed a 9 but whatever.

-

Barry & Peta: I did not know that Bruno was in this video  Quickstep is a FAST DANCE, can Barry catch up?

What is with all these jive-ready songs being choreographed to quicksteps???? Was it slower than expected? Yeah sure, but I can't help but smile with him. Carrie Ann applauds him for making everyone smile and danced smoothly, but did point out a snafu that may have affected his performance a bit. Derek noticed this as well but thought his frame was good. Paula thought as the dance picked up they found their pacing and she enjoys watching him dance. Bruno thought his dances are always enjoyable despite a few mistakes.

Scores: 7 | 7 | 7 | 7 = 28/40. Charity is glad that they got the stamina but she's glad it's over for now.

With dance-offs coming up, Ariana & Pasha landed in the top of the leaderboard and are immune from the dance-off proceedings!

-

Team Dances

Harry and Alyson, the lowest two scorers, are the team captains for this round!

Team Gangnam Style: Harry & Rylee, Lele & Brandon, Xochitl & Val, Charity & Artem

The last time we had a Gangnam Style dance it was the chaotic All-Stars season. THIS WAS CHAOTIC. MY GOD. Harry picked the right team. He was a great PSY and a good anchor. Derek commended him, as well as Charity for bringing the energy. Maybe the cheerleading stunts were what she needed. Paula called it nothing but joy. All the judges are pleasantly surprised by Harry's performance. Carrie Ann thought that despite the dancers' varying skills they came together to make a showstopping performance.

Scores: 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 = 40/40. IT TOOK A TEAM DANCE FOR US TO GET A PERFECT SCORE :cheeseblock: :cheeseblock:

-

Team Backstreet's Back: Alyson & Sasha, Ariana & Pasha, Barry & Peta, Jason & Daniella

JASON IS CARRYING THIS TEAM :cheer: :cheer: Ariana also did a SOLID job. Alyson and Barry were enjoyable as usual. I also liked that they threw in more ballroom steps to fit with the mood. Carrie Ann gave props to Alyson for shining but also pointed out that she could see the skill level differences in each pair. Derek thought there were elements when they were cleaner than the others. Paula commended them for continuing their acting despite being in the background. Bruno thought it was a great dance to wrap it up.

Scores: 9 | 9 | 10 | 9 = 37/40. Another solid score! This has been the best round of team dances since Season 20 probably.

-

Safe are...

Ariana & Pasha!

Harry & Rylee!

Xochitl & Val!

Jason & Daniella!

and.....

Alyson & Sasha!

Bottom 3: Lele & Brandon, Charity & Artem, Barry & Peta

Interesting. Two of them were on the winning team.

Eliminated: Lele & Brandon

Some context here: since season 21, being on the winning team has been a bit of a curse. One person always seems to go home there and it's caught up to Lele at this time. Brandon just needs a ringer at this point.

-

Next Week: Billy Porter joins the panel as the remaining couples pay tribute to the songbird herself, Whitney Houston. This will be an emotional night for sure.

Dance Ranking:

9 | 4.) Ariana & Pasha

9 | 2.) Xochitl & Val

9 | 1.) Charity & Artem

8 | 5.) Lele & Brandon

8 | 8.) Alyson & Sasha

8 | 3.) Jason & Daniella

7 | 7.) Barry & Peta

6 | 10.) Harry & Rylee

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!! Make sure you watch the VOD on Disney+!

Live from Hollywood, it's Whitney Houston Night on Dancing With The Stars! The remaining 8 couples dance to songs to pay tribute to the late great Miss Whitney Houston. Billy Porter joins the judges' panel after an electric opening number, and rumor has it that Taylor Hale was spotted in the audience!

(scores: Carrie Ann | Derek | Billy Porter | Bruno)

-

Harry & Rylee - I Have Nothing: Rylee hopes that the Viennese Waltz will get Harry in tune with his audience, and she takes him to ballet class to help with that. It's a bit out of his comfort zone but it's keeping him at ease.

I can't bring myself to hate this pairing. They have electrifying chemistry, and even though the dancing may be a bit gangly (and slightly timid) at times, this performance was a MASSIVE improvement. Derek thinks that he dances too small despite him being a big guy. Billy thought the couple's connection was amazing but it needed more seduction. Bruno was impressed that Harry kept in time with the pacing of the dance but needed to not stick his butt out. Carrie Ann thinks he's opening up more.

Scores: 7 | 7 | 7 | 7 = 28/40. Poor Harry was cramping up during the whole ballet class

-

Jason & Daniella - Higher Love: I will always be here for a Kygo mention *.* He also finally gives a shout out to "I'm Yours" Jason hopes that doing a harder dance will pay off and impress the judges.

Jason is feeling a lot more at ease dancing and you can see that before the routine starts. His facial expressions are to die for and he's bringing in the showmanship! It reminds me a bit of James Hinchcliffe in a way. I did think it lacked the hip action and he seemed to have lost it a bit at the end? Billy called him out for lip syncing during the performance. Bruno thought this was a hard and high quality samba but he made a few mistakes along the way. Carrie Ann commends him for his commitment to the bit, but he gets a bit lost in the content. Derek loved that the dance was a proper samba with high quality content.

Scores: 8 | 9 | 8 | 8 = 33/40. It really sucks that he flubbed the end because it had a lot of potential to be a great dance. He attributes this to messing up one move and it snowballed after that.

-

Alyson & Sasha - Greatest Love Of All: Gonna be interesting to see Alyson do a contemporary.

Alyson did great, but I can't help but feel that there wasn't much in the choreography? Bruno loved that it was simple yet effective. Carrie Ann praised the duo for their great storytelling and Alyson's vulnerability. Derek thought the dance was pure and loved that it felt that she was dancing for herself. Billy felt his passion in the dance loved that she didn't get lost in the sauce, but warns her about her sickled feet.

They keep panning to Witney during this entire time, I'm laughing so hard

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 | 9 = 33/40. I don't think it was as good as Jason's, but a serviceable dance.

-

Xochitl & Val - I Wanna Dance With Somebody: Xochitl thinks that the wardrobe malfunction changed the mood of the last dance, and she also sprained her ankle during rehearsal... so she was dancing on an injury ALL LAST WEEK. WOW.

Now THIS is a quality tango! It looks like she recovered well from the injury and I kinda think they played it safe enough yet pulled it all out. Carrie Ann called the dance flawless. Derek thought there was a lot of power and intent in the dance. Billy thought everything fell into place and it made for a magical dance, and Bruno thought it was dancing at its best.

Peep the Taylor Hale cameo!

Scores: 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 = 40/40. FINALLY. It felt like a longer time than usual to see a perfect individual 40.

-

Barry & Peta - Didn't We Almost Have It All: Barry married a professional hula dancer! He thinks that some advice from her would help him with his hip action.

Barry seems to really excels in slower dances and this is no exception. I also think he's improved his control and the hip action was pretty good - mission accomplished! Derek thinks he's won the audience again, and he thought it was great despite a few minute mistakes. Billy thinks that the dance was great, albeit a bit too easy. Bruno thought there weren't many mistakes and thought his focus was there. Carrie Ann saw a hidden intensity and bravado and thought it was one of his better dances.

Scores: 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 = 32/40. Another solid dance!

-

Charity & Artem - I Will Always Love You: We really need Charity to put in a ton of energy... but I'm not sure that a waltz is the best style for that. I like that Artem is really challenging Charity to bring in more energy during rehearsals.

There is something very figure skater about her and I think it helped her with the dance. Billy thought the storytelling was great, but he thinks Charity needs to elongate her extensions more and spot her turns a bit. Bruno thought the acapella parts were great and they kept the timing throughout. Carrie Ann thought she needed more connection to the movement but loved the joy in her face dancing. Derek thinks her dancing is classy but needs a bit more shape in her dance.

Scores: 9 | 9 | 9 | 9 = 36/40. Julianne hit the nail on the head with her questions lol.

-

Ariana & Pasha - Queen Of The Night: Ariana is doing this while running two businesses? WOW. Okay girlboss.

I'm not sure. She did great with what she was given for sure. Her delivery was excellent, but idk I wasn't feeling the choreography as much as I would have. Bruno thought she dominated the performance. Carrie Ann applauds her for attacking every moment but did think there were a few things that were awkward. Derek thinks she has the best arm placement out of the entire cast and coupled with the minor details, it became a quality paso. Billy thought it was clean and the body rolls were crisp.

Scores: 9 | 10 | 10 | 10 = 39/40. Let's go front runner! I'm guessing it was a good workout for Ariana's core lol.

Dance-Offs

Harry vs. Alyson - One Moment In Time

The two weakest dancers... last time Harry's team came out on top, but can he pull off a win solo?

The judges have picked... Alyson & Sasha!

This was the right decision. I think Harry's routine told the story better but Alyson's felt more true to the style.

-

Jason vs. Barry - It's Not Right But It's Okay

Two amazing showmen, two possible miracle worker pros. Jason is more technical, but Barry can win an audience over. Who will come out on top?

The judges have picked... Barry & Peta!

I will say I WAS NOT EXPECTING BARRY GOING FOR THE SHIRTLESS MOMENT :o This show never ceases to amaze me.

-

Xochitl vs. Charity - So Emotional

Two strong dancers, no hidden rose petals... at least not that I know of...

The judges have picked... Charity & Artem!

Xochitl did fantastic as always, and this energy! That's what we've been asking from Charity! I also liked that they fed off of each other. The women are bodying this challenge!

-

After the dances I think Jason is in trouble. I don't think we're letting go of Harry at the moment.

Safe are...

Alyson & Sasha!

Ariana & Pasha!

Xochitl & Val!

and.....

Harry & Rylee!

Bottom 3: Jason & Daniella, Charity & Artem, Barry & Peta

Now why tf is Charity on the bottom again???

Eliminated: Barry & Peta

It's unfortunate but I will say that they left on a high. That dance off... what a way to go.

-

Next Week: Award-winning choreographer Mandy Moore (who also choreographed the Eras tour!) joins the panel as the remaining couples traverse through the eras of Taylor Swift. We're heading into the endgame.

Dance Ranking:

9 | 1.) Charity & Artem

9 | 2.) Xochitl & Val

9 | 3.) Ariana & Pasha

8 | 4.) Jason & Daniella

8 | 5.) Barry & Peta

8 | 6.) Alyson & Sasha

7 | 7.) Harry & Rylee

Dance-Off winner picks: Alyson & Sasha, Barry & Peta, Charity & Artem

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!! Make sure you watch the VOD on Disney+!

Live from Hollywood, it's Taylor Swift Night on Dancing With The Stars! To celebrate the ongoing Eras Tour, the remaining couples traverse through the many eras of Taylor Swift! This all culminates into the new Relay Dance format, where two couples will dance to one song tag team style. Eras Tour choreographer Mandy Moore joins the judges' panel to give some insight into how the couples do this week.

(scores: Carrie Ann | Derek | Mandy Moore | Bruno)

-

Alyson & Sasha - Fearless era: Ayyyy Alyson went to the Eras tour! Also another late game cha cha! Alyson has been suffering through some toe injuries... can she pull through the pain and get some good scores?

In terms of Alyson's dances, it's one of her best performances yet (even if a bit slow), but in terms of the actual competition it's risky to do a cha-cha this late into the game bc they usually need to be almost perfect. Derek seems to think so as well - there were technical and timing issues but he thinks she's gotten better. Mandy thinks she's just like the era - fearless. Bruno thought the vibe was there but thought she got so into the dance that she started rushing. Carrie Ann loves her confidence and challenges Sasha to give her more choreography.

Scores: 7 | 7 | 8 | 7 = 29/40. I feel like even Iman and Jimmy Allen scored higher with late game cha chas.

-

Ariana & Pasha - Lover era: Ariana has slotted herself into the frontrunners very well. However, she's got the rumba while feeling some back pain. And to exceed expectations after a super high score? That's some serious pressure.

I like this rendition of Cruel Summer! This rumba is fluid and delicate - just the way it should be! It reminds me of Evanna and Keo's rumba in some places too. Mandy thought Ariana lit up the stage and commended her musicality matching the song. Bruno called it a more classic rumba that was sensual but restrained, which worked for her. Carrie Ann loved that the technique was showcased well and that Ariana was more lyrical in her movements. Derek applauds her for adjusting to the character for each dance.

Scores: 9 | 9 | 9 | 10 = 37/40. Excellent!

-

Jason & Daniella - Reputation era: Of course Taylor brought Jason in for a performance, songs like "Lucky" and "I'm Yours" are just MADE for Taylor  Daniella brings in Pasha to help Jason out with this Argentine Tango.

Jason's footwork is ON POINT, moreso than usual! It's slow at the right places, and it kicks it up a notch when it needs to. I think this is the most controlled Jason has been as well. What a redemption! Bruno thought Jason's technique was strong, and Carrie Ann thought there was a lot of fire in his dance. Derek thought the dance had everything it needed and Jason's confidence sealed the deal. Mandy called the dance "grounded and epic".

Scores: 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 = 40/40. This is only the second individual perfect score this season!

-

Harry & Rylee - Folklore era: They are really hammering on the showmance angle lmaoooooooo  Harry and Rylee even went to the Eras Tour movie together!

Rylee is really giving Taylor Swift vibes  That said, she brought THAT out of Harry??? I think he did MUCH better than I was expecting, despite some parts being hesitant. Carrie Ann thinks that his dance captures people's hearts despite the technical issues. Derek mentions that sometimes his face is blank but this time he was much more comfortable dancing. Mandy thought that the two of them felt connected, and Bruno decides to feed the shippers even more by noting how romantic it felt AND asking if they were kissing

They're never beating the allegations I'm sorry

Scores: 8 | 7 | 8 | 7 = 30/40. I think a high 7 is right.

-

Charity & Artem - Reputation era: Charity winning that dance off put that pep in her step! Her strategy for this dance is to give it her all like it's the dance off.

You can tell that Charity is trying her hardest to give the right facial expressions for this dance, because technically she's one of the best this season. I think everything finally came together - the technique, the vibes, her EYE CONTACT, all stunning. Derek commends her extensions and praises her for pulling off a difficult Argentine Tango. Mandy thought it ticked all the boxes but thinks there could be more unpredictable moments like a snake bite. Bruno praises her precision when dancing, which fit the style of the dance. Carrie Ann thinks she has fantastic lines and legs, but thinks there's a bit more that she can give.

Scores: 9 | 10 | 9 | 10 = 38/40. HELL YES DEREK AND BRUNO

-

Xochitl & Val - Lover era: I figured she was gonna do Paper Rings when it was announced she was doing a quickstep. Also I love that it's paying some sort of tribute to her mom.

I LOVE THIS DANCE!!! The steps were there, the vibe was there, and it put a smile on my face the entire time. Mandy thought their dance was poetry in motion. Bruno thought the dance had a joyful and celebratory feel. Carrie Ann thinks Xochitl is the most joyous performer they've had in the show, but there were some moments where she lost her focus. Derek thought the joy was there, then mentions that she needs to work on her body contact. He wants to see her in the finals though.

Scores: 9 | 9 | 10 | 10 = 38/40. Carrie Ann is being a bit stingy tonight huh?

-

Dance-Offs

Ariana vs. Xochitl - Lover

Carrie Ann leads the relay for this pair. Who will the judges love more? They seem to be stuck on deciding who is better; they seem to be an even match.

Carrie Ann has picked... Xochitl & Val!

-

Harry vs. Alyson - Shake It Off

Best 2 out of 3 apparently. And this time with a new style for both of them. This will decide who will reign supreme.

Bruno has picked... Alyson & Sasha!

-

Jason vs. Charity - Lavender Haze

Derek gives them some pointers before giving them their style - cha cha. These are the two most technical dancers left in this show.

Derek has picked... Jason & Daniella!

Overall I think duets would have been a lot better. Jason & Charity and Ariana & Xochitl would have EATEN as a duet.

-

After all of this, why am I so worried for Charity? Is it because she's been in the bottom 3 before? And Alyson and Harry get a ton of votes every time? Who knows at this point?

Safe are...

Ariana & Pasha!

Xochitl & Val!

and.....

Jason & Daniella!

Bottom 3: Harry & Rylee, Charity & Artem, Alyson & Sasha

Now why tf is Charity on the bottom again???

Eliminated: Harry & Rylee

The one time I don't think they won't get eliminated is the time they actually do  This was the correct choice though.

-

Next Week: At long last, we are at the semifinals! With one week left until the finale, who will get one step closer to that coveted Mirrorball?

Dance Ranking:

10 | 2.) Xochitl & Val

10 | 3.) Ariana & Pasha

10 | 1.) Charity & Artem

10 | 4.) Jason & Daniella

7 | 7.) Harry & Rylee

7 | 6.) Alyson & Sasha
