Climbing up the charts fairly quickly this. 'ecstacy' was released in early 2022 but has found a home on TikTok like many other tracks in a similar style. There are several versions about but it seems to be the slowed version that's doing the numbers. Sitting at #52 in the chart this week.

 

 

 

“Ecstacy” is the debut single from SUICIDAL-IDOL and sees their desire and want for a relationship to the point of euphoria often attributed to the club-drug ecstasy, over a grungy, heavy-bass instrumental.

 

In July 2023, the track gained mass popularity on the social-media platform TikTok, with certain videos amassing over one-hundred-thousand views each.

Love having a song that sounds like this in the charts - I was very intrigued to hear it when seeing it tagged as witch house on Rate Your Music, I'm not sure I'd actually call it that myself but it is at least kind of witch house adjacent, it is quite a banger anyways if a bit on the short side (and with some slightly eyebrow raising lyrics but hey ho). Looks like it has more traction behind it than the other niche electronic songs that have cropped up in the top 100 in the last year or so, interested to see if it can make a push for the top 40.

I'm intrigued by this track. It isn't something I'd usually listen to but I find myself returning to it. Can't say I've seen it on TikTok myself but then I'm not sure my FYP would ever bring up a video with this vibe!

Probably a good thing that you haven't come across it on TikTok tbh as I've read that it has apparently primarily gone viral with some pretty unsavoury communities (i.e. incel shit) oops

Considering the tone of the song, how short it is and how many expletives there are, it'd just be butchered making its airplay completely pointless I guess.

I feel like they'll just be wanting to avoid it because of it being a bit ~le edgy~, was definitely not expecting it to get a play today or most likely ever. Brilliant to see this making the top 40 though.

Well, if it was played it would be the slowed version and not the 'original' version I prefer.

It has climbed 7 places to #26 today but still skipped. Well, if it is top 20 next week and Radio 1 can edit it I don't know.

 

I see lots of emo boys and girls 'miming' the slowed version on TikTok. Iconic. :D

A shame it keeps getting skipped but if they don't have an edit and can't be arsed to do their own because it's not on their playlist I guess we're just going to have to lump it.

I am pretty sure this artist is a trans woman and it's sick seeing a trans woman on the charts and also it being music this unique is very welcome!

I think there isn't an official clean edit of the song and R1 can't be bothered to try and edit it themselves just to play it on the chart show

They were fine with plying that ludicrously mutilated version of Kill Bill earlier this year though :lol:
