December 22, 20232 yr Isn’t that thread subtitle a pretty big spoiler? :kink: I’ve no idea if that’s what is #1 but if you do and you post that then I think you can be blamed for spoiling the suspense Mr Carey! :P We have been saying this every chart for well over 15 years.
December 22, 20232 yr 2009 was the most exciting yes but the sales gap wasn’t particularly close between them in the end as I recall it I don’t think people knew that until the sales were announced though, I remember it being a freezing cold snowy Christmas period and text a friend asking who won the race and couldn’t believe it still when I heard. Plus R1 had Joe in the studio and think he famously wouldn’t speak. The Darkness and Max World year was class as we had to great songs and an original Xmas song for the first time since 1994!
December 22, 20232 yr once the big C happened clearly that meant even bigger Christmas domination going forward I guess Big C? (It's been a long week and I may be being a bit slow)
December 22, 20232 yr R1 in the last few years played the actual top 40 which was rather wearying although it was nice that Sia got new peaks (first for Santa's Coming For Us then Snowman) Great idea to change that. Would prefer New Year's Day though as get every day of 2023 counted (and will be around then!) As a fan of continuing to play festive music until 6th Jan I welcomed the chart on the 29th, we should hopefully get a few plays on MTVs chart rundowns up until the 4th Jan anyway.

Born in 1993, London-based songwriter/producer Fred John Philip Gibson treats his electro and rave-inspired songs as diary entries. But the artist, who performs under the name Fred Again.., doesn’t limit the subject matter to himself. On albums like 2021’s Actual Life (April 14 - December 17 2020) and its sequel, Actual Life 2 (February 2 - October 15 2021), Fred invited his friends into the studio to record their personal stories and then sprinkled them throughout the album. (The obvious exception was an epic Kodak Black sample on “Kahan (Last Year)”.) The songwriter has also worked with stars such as Eminem and Ed Sheeran, but Fred’s longest collaboration is with his brothers, whom he shares his tracks with before they’re released. “It’s such a blessing to work with both of my brothers,” Fred explained in an interview with Apple Music. “I’ll spend hours and hours working on a tune, and they’ll hear it how I will, but without all the baggage. They bring a fresh ear.” - Apple Music Baby Keem Baby Keem’s vocals are as animated as they are downplayed—an intentional pairing that makes for an unmistakable approach to rap. Born Hykeem Jamaal Carter Jr. in 2000, the Las Vegas-via-L.A. artist first began creating music at age 13, borrowing money from his grandmother to buy used equipment off of the internet. By his late teen years, he had already leapt ahead of his peers—his eclectic production methods and introspective songwriting led to contribution credits with some of the biggest names in the industry, notably pop supernova Beyoncé and rap luminary Kendrick Lamar (his rumoured cousin). On his debut mixtape, 2018’s The Sound of Bad Habit, Keem’s delivery expands and contracts, fluctuating between high-pitched and even-keeled on songs like the gutsy, dark intro “Wolves”. He settled confidently into his free-flowing style on his breakthrough 2019 follow-up, DIE FOR MY BITCH, which was led by the flippant “ORANGE SODA”, a stream of consciousness single where he rapped amusingly about his arbitrary dating parameters. His 2020 double single release furthered his musical modus operandi: the pensive, piano-driven “hooligan” showcased Keem’s ability to look inward and reflect, while the trappy, bass-heavy “sons & critics freestyle” found the rapper casually flexing on his contemporaries. No matter the topic, Keem thrives comfortably in his pocket, locked into a dynamic aesthetic that has set him apart since he began. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History Fred again.. 2020 57 Charades (Headie One & Fred again..) -1- 2020 51 GANG (Headie One & Fred again..) -2- 2021 36 Marea (We've Lost Dancing) (Fred again.. & The Blessed Madonna) -1- 2022 78 Jungle -1*- 2022 27 Turn On The Lights again.. (Taylor's Version) 3rd single from 1989 (Taylor's Version) Released: 27th October 2022 Label: Taylor Swift Chart Statistics NE (09/11/2023) | 1-3-7-6-8-33-35-38 Sales: 100k+ Certification: - Status: Standard Chart Ratio 21 Sales 01 Audio Streaming 57 Video Streaming Video tNxUxm3-658 Biography The country world feigned surprise when, after three albums of Music Row-indebted songcraft, Taylor Swift formally embraced pop on 2012’s Red. But no one should have been shocked: Any 14-year-old capable of persuading her parents to move from suburban Pennsylvania to Nashville for her career clearly has ambition to burn. And the thrill of following Swift’s rise has been watching her execute it flawlessly, largely because her melodic intelligence is equal to that ambition. Her early, youthful love songs heralded 2010's newly self-possessed Speak Now—which showed off her scathing wit—and evolved into knowing, ironclad pop fare that held its own against boisterous Max Martin production on 1989, her fifth album, titled after her birth year. Throughout, her songwriting has blurred the lines between the public and private, burying enough real-life clues (about, say, scarves and Starbucks) to make clear that only Swift can own her narrative, thank you very much, while still retaining a lyrical elegance. Though 2017’s reputation might have been perceived as a gorgeously constructed piece of dramatic theater—its attendant heroes and villains all real-life characters from Swift's public feuds—all that spectacle proved an attention-grabbing cover for her most romantic album yet. She turned up the romance even more on 2019’s Lover, but it was 2020’s folklore and its companion, evermore—ruminative, relatively lo-fi albums written and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic—that earned her the Apple Music Award for Songwriter of the Year. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2009 02 Love Story -1- MILLIONAIRE 2009 60 White Horse -AT- 2009 51 Teardrops On My Guitar -2- 2009 100 Crazier -OST- 2009 30 You Belong With Me -3- 2010 57 Today Was A Fairytale -OST- 2010 30 Mine -1- 2012 67 Safe & Sound (feat. December 22, 20232 yr 'DNA' holding robustly amongst the Xmas onslaught. New peak potentially in the new year?
December 22, 20232 yr Author 37 | 31 | 6th week Dua Lipa Houdini 1st single from forthcoming studio album Released: 10th November 2023 Label: Dua Lipa Chart Statistics NE (23/11/2023) | 2-7-10-31-31-37 Sales: 100k+ Certification: - Status: Standard Chart Ratio 02 Sales 05 Audio Streaming 02 Video Streaming Video suAR1PYFNYA Biography There’s purpose in Dua Lipa’s euphoric pop. “For me, it’s about championing women and putting ourselves in the position of power,” the singer told Apple Music in 2020, ahead of the release of her second album, Future Nostalgia. “I have been inspired by the female alphas that have shown me that we can do it. And that we can wear the pants, you know? We need more of that in music.” Forcing the world to get a little more comfortable with female alphas has been a mission statement for Lipa (born in London to Kosovar Albanian parents in 1995) since her 2017 self-titled debut. It housed the triumphant breakup smash “New Rules”, the self-love anthem “IDGAF” and the assured “Hotter Than Hell”—songs which made it clear that this was no ingénue, but rather an outspoken, effortlessly cool face of pop’s future. Indeed, that status was cemented a year later when Lipa made history as the first female solo artist to receive five BRIT Award nominations. She won two and, in 2019, added two Grammys to her mantelpiece. Despite the success of her debut, Lipa wasn’t interested in recreating its hits. “People always say, ‘The second album is really scary,’ but for me, it’s more scary to go back into the studio and try to create something like ‘New Rules’ or ‘IDGAF’ over and over again,” she said. “I feel like I’d end up in a vicious cycle of trying to get somewhere but never being able to mature as an artist.” And so, to move forward, she pivoted to the past, drawing on disco and funk—and filtering it through her ahead-of-its-time pop—to arrive at Future Nostalgia. Decadent and every bit as empowering as those early hits, it brought Lipa her first Mercury Prize nod, multiple Grammy nominations and a rightful place in pop’s upper echelons. And with it, too, came Lipa’s new purpose. Released just as the world went into lockdown amid the coronavirus crisis, Future Nostalgia became an urgent tonic for tough times—danced to in living rooms across the world. Yet Lipa wasn’t done there: Five months later, she unveiled Club Future Nostalgia, a thrilling remixed version on which the singer teamed up with club queen The Blessed Madonna, and guests including Madonna, Missy Elliott, Gwen Stefani and Mark Ronson, to bring lockdown-fatigued listeners another dose of escapism. “I didn’t think I’d be putting albums out during a global pandemic,” added Lipa. “But it’s just about creating experiences for everyone at home. That’s the most important thing for me now.” All of this, of course, is only just the beginning. “I really feel like I’m finding my feet,” said Lipa. “I feel so proud of Future Nostalgia as a whole and the most confident and the most myself making it. But I’m already planning the next move.” - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2016 15 Hotter Than Hell -2- 2016 30 Blow Your Mind (Mwah) -3- 2016 10 No Lie (Sean Paul feat.
