Colapinto!

it's ages since Bottas should be out of the F1

I wouldn't have anyone from the current grid. You've got Hulk you don't need Bottas

I'd rather somelone like

Colton Herta, Pato O'Ward, Alex Palou, Theo Pourchaire or Felipe Drugovich

Colapinto has made a huge splash in just 3 races, would be a pity if he doesn't get a seat next year

can they scrap the sprint races too? ;D

was just listening to an interview with Colapinto and he seemed zero worried about his future or next year's seat

maybe it was all a play and he didn't wanna show his cards but he truly didn't seem bothered or worried

He's just massively grateful for the Williams opportunity I suspect. If you looked at all the drivers not in F1 at the start of the season who'd be most likely to jump in a race seat during the season he wouldn't have been in anyone's top 10.

He's basically what Lawson was last season, has easily shown he's worthy of a seat and eventually the call will come, if it indeed isn't with Sauber next season.

Norris was terrible in the sprint, losing focus on the last lap and letting carlos pip him 1 point
Suddenly seems like Max has a faster car?

COTA really suits both the Red Bull and Max's style, not so much Perez though, as you can see from his grid position

Additionally Red Bull identified their issues back at Monza and have improved the handling slightly since.

Ferrari look strong here too.

Absolute shitshow from the stewards this weekend, horribly inconsistent officiating on track limits and forcing another driver off rules.

A comfortable Ferrari 1-2 was certainly something I wasn't expecting ahead of this race. Also notable were Lawson and Colapinto totally embarrassing their experienced teammates.

That was a textbook example of how to defend against a faster car.

And a Ferrari 1-2 is a great result

When it goes online, check out Anthony Davidson's analysis of the penalties around Norris/Verstappen and Russell/Bottas. I'm not certain those are the ones you're thinking of but both decisions are completely correct according to the rules. I initially thought the one for Russell was harsh but actually was right on further viewing.

The Sky team's (Button, Davidson, Patrick) conclusion basically boils down to Verstappen understands the rules better than anyone else and the circuit's need tweakingwith gravel/grass to prevent this being an issue

What Russell did what loads of drivers did and got nothing. Even in the Sprint both Ferrari drivers arguably "forced" him off at turn 15 and no penalty.

The Max/Lando one near the end I didn't take issue with necessarily although the rules about being in front at the apex are a bit silly as you can just dive bomb to make sure you're in front then run off the track to retain the position. However lap 1 turn 1 he very clearly forced Lando off and went over the white line on the exit so comparing that one to Russell/Bottas they very much were inconsistent.

Also Piastri got a 5 second penalty in the Sprint for a very similar incident at turn 12.

That race summed up Lando for me. He is simply not a winner. He finds a way to mess up despite getting in great positions constantly. Max is the opposite he will always find a way to get the best out of a bad hand.

I can't yet comment on the Sprint and I'll have to look back at the event as I try to ignore them as much as I can, but in the race Russell does clearly force Bottas wide when he had no reason to, Valterri had already backed out of the move, so I agree that was entirely justified as a penalty.

I agree that there's an exploit around the rules on your second point but that's a rules problem and not a stewarding one. It's worth remembering that drivers and teams helped to set these rules too. It's pretty clear some drivers know what they can and can't do more than others.

Opening laps are always viewed much more leniently though and every driver takes advantage of that because they know it. Almost no-one ever gets a penalty for anything there as long as it's not egregious. However, I don't agree Verstappen forced Norris pff as he was clearly off the throttle and full lock at the time but most importantly Max was ahead at the apex on T1 so broke no rules. It was identical to that late race moment where Norris broke the rules by making it in to an overtake.

I don't see anything in today's race that I take issue with, having seen repeated angles of the areas I initially thought were questionable.
