How do we feel about Stompin’ as a second single after ‘5,6,7,8’?

I think a #24 hit and dropped by the label after their third single ‘Cowgirl’ tanked at #77..

I went with small hit. Saying that I mean less of a hit than 5,6,7,8. I think lower top 40 range of the charts then quickly out.

Doubt a third single would have occurred unless they then shift to Last Thing On My Mind.

B-)

Did you vote for the ‘other, …’ option?

Nope just voted now and I've gone with small hit and career fizzles out, I am thinking something like #29 for one or two weeks in the top 75 before disappearing forever. Then that is it for Steps as we know it, a novely act like Las Ketchup or The Fast Food Rockers never to be heard of again. :w00t:

Was there an actual song stompin lined up?

Yes, I believe the YouTube video of it is in the Unreleased songs thread.

After a bit of searching i found it, oh thank god this wasnt the follow up to 5,6,7,8 as this would have resulted in them been a one hit wonder and we would have never got some of the amazing stuff we got down through the years.

They can be thankful this did not proceed to been their second single.

It would have been a career killer.

I wonder was any member of steps disappointed it wasnt the 2nd question, an ideal question to ask when we meet them ;) :o :)

That’d actually be an interesting question I think.

What's this?

Stomping was lined up to be the follow up to 5678 for their line dancing style before Pete Waterman took them down an Abba on speed route instead

Last Thing On My Mind is one of my fave Steps songs so no, I’m glad it wasn’t this

Yes, looking back Last Thing On My Mind was what got me fully on board with Steps. I liked 5,6,7,8 but a similar sounding song probably wouldn’t have worked.

I’m guessing it’s the same for most people.

In a way yes, i loved 5,6,7,8 but wasnt sure what to expect for the follow up and i had known last thing on my mind from Bananarama and really liked the song and i was happy with the version Steps released.

Steps have the superior version of Last Thing on my Mind but the Bananarama version was very much overlooked.
