January 13, 20242 yr Author Lady Antebellum went top 15 with Need You Now just over a decade ago although this Zack Bryan song is more folk/indie than it is country by my personal reckoning, otherwise we’d also have to consider the Mitski song as country
January 13, 20242 yr really? for me Zach is 100% Country 0% Indie/Alt Mitski 0% Country 100% Indie/Alt
January 14, 20242 yr Not that it’s by any means a fool-proof measure, but Billboard has Zach Bryan on its Country Chart but not Mitski. That said I Remember Everything is also on the Alternative Chart (along with Mitski) so I accept your point.
January 14, 20242 yr Here I go again correcting opinions etc. but I think it's very short sighted to say that either 'I Remember Everything' or 'My Love Mine All Mine' don't have at least some crossover between those genres even if it's fairly minor. Aside though, I don't really agree with Billboard putting the Zach/Kacey song on the rock charts as it's still pretty clearly a country song imo albeit with folk/rock influences. But then they have put straight up pop songs on the rock chart in the past just because they come from artists who have formerly made indie music so ~ Re: the last country song to chart as high as #14, even if you don't count Mitski it's not been quite as long as since Lady A[ntebellum], 'Love Story (Taylor's Version)' is definitely primarily a country song imo (albeit on the poppier end of country) and that was #12 in 2021. Jury's out on if you consider any of Taylor's other top 15 hits since then to be country, not least the top 3 hit 'All Too Well (Taylor's Version)'. On the topic of Zach, lovely to see 'Something In The Orange' has made it back to the top 100 anyway despite its streaming renaissance unfortunately being too slow paced for it to get a reset. Quite a feat when the song only got as high as #70 in its original SCR run! If only it had just dropped out of the top 100 naturally a couple of weeks earlier. Also brilliant to see Dylan Gossett re-entering, hope he will be able to take off more in the coming weeks. And cool that 'all-american bitch' has now got a second week on the chart. For some reason I thought 'Ophelia' did get a low chart position on its original release but good for it finally charting now, admittedly don't really remember the song too well (despite hearing it fairly recently at the #1 albums sessions oop!) but I think I quite liked it. The Last Dinner Party are not beating the 'new Wet Leg' allegations by debuting in the 70s, albeit 3 places higher than the two Wet Leg hits, still not sure I see it getting too much higher now. I saw someone posting that the Lost Frequencies song is now showing up in the mid 20s on Amazon which seems more accurate to compare to its official chart position, I'm not sure if its previous appearing at #1 on there was a weird editorial decision or a weird glitch. But either way, something funny is definitely up with that Amazon chart. SPRINTS' album held up a bit better than I'd have predicted from its midweek position, I didn't know they had any mainstream traction at all so #20 is pretty fab! Glad to see the Paramore reissue just about stayed top 100 too.
