I think Eat Your Young did amazing, consider that no one cared for album 2 and everything flopped

since Eat Your Young he's been huge on Spotify doing crazy figures for his entire discography every week

in the US, Too Sweet is doing insane figures, yesterday it did 3 million

Did nobody care for his second album if it’s his only one to reach #1 in the US? It didn’t have any big hits (although two songs are certified gold & platinum in the US now), but it only seemed to grow his fanbase which enabled his third to do even better.

the US album charts are very bizarre

was it a proper #1 or one of those you buy a concert ticket and you get the album for free and this count for the charts?

in the US a few years back you bought a bottle of water at 7/11 they gave you a free CD and that counted for the charts just saying

but anyway the people that stream single vs people that buy albums are very different

I guess back with album 2 he had the fanbase that buys the album in week 1, like most indie/rock acts

but what's difficult it's to have the fanbase that streams you songs in the millions....

Hozier also overtook like that in the US with 3.3 mill streams, Texas hold em holding up better than I thought for now
Artemas is #1 globally. I think autoplay is a big factor here, the song ALWAYS comes on after whatever playlist or album ends.

I've noticed this as well. Comes on all the time.

Pretty sure last week Too Sweet was only part of the separate Unheard EP, but looks like an expanded version of the album has now been released featuring the four new tracks (and Too Sweet as track 1  ). Probably a good move as the song's popularity will help the album out a lot in places like the US which don't discount streams from the most popular tracks.

So cool for Slow It Down !

Needs to be playlisted by Radio 1 next week with the release of the album.

I don't understand the surprising success of Too Sweet. Hozier doesn't have a fanbase, it's crazy to see one of his song having these huge streaming numbers during his first week of release.

It's TikTok - as always these days when chart stats look a bit too good for the artist.

it's a tiktok, but it's not a one-off for Hozier unlike many tiktok hits
Lucky he has those streams too then! :P

if he had those on week 1 :)

I'd refer to the shirt of the man on Fatboy Slim's second album cover.

But in any case it just serves as a perpetual reminder that stuff that is beyond the charts in the age of streaming isn't unknown/unheard/uncared, and the hyper focus on day 1/week 1 figures frequently misses the point.

Hozier has a decent sized fanbase and are very dedicated, enough for him to play arenas for years now.

‘Too Sweet’ wasn’t going to be pushed until a Hozier fan account pulled the audio from the background of some interview he did, and the fans helped blow it up. (Or something along those lines, originally the pushed track was going to be the Allison Russell collab )

I’d love for Hozier to snatch a week or 2 at #1 before Taylor comes along

Taylor Swift is not going to dislodge too sweet she’ll do great in the album category
