June 20, 20241 yr I just think he should be shown more respect. The re-writing of history about previous successful tournaments in these threads especially is ridiculous! Thing is Steve, while he's done well, ultimately we've lost every time and we play the same tactics every single time too. People (myself included) just want a change now. Take Kyle Walker's post game - he reckoned the game was a hostile atmosphere.. yeah in a neutral ground and two thirds of the crowd are English! The mentality is not right. Of course there are other good teams too, but this England side should not be being played off the park by Denmark. Quite simply, other teams know how to nulify us and that is down squarely to the manager.
June 20, 20241 yr What are the odds on the next England manager anyway? Whose the favourite to take over after the Euros?

You’ve lost every time if you reduce success at the international stage down to winning the trophy when only one team can win a trophy in international football every 2 years so it’s a bit of a high bar. Bobby Robson for example got a knighthood for reaching a semi final and a Q-F and look what happens when he left in July 1990, it took 6 years to find the right team to get back to another semi final and even that was short lived with decent players. You say ‘people’ want change but you might be wishing for another change if the wrong person comes in and hark back to the most successful period for England since Alf Ramsay. As for Denmark they have been one of the best teams in Int football over the past 8 years(albeit they are at the end of their cycle currently with an aging squad) Yes England have better players but Denmark have a better team and group which is much more important in this type of football no matter how many premier league ‘stats’ you have in the squad. That’s what I mean by the arrogance of England fans believing they should easily brush aside teams like Serbia and Denmark, it’s not as simple as that and not as simple as buying the best players like happens in club football. June 21, 20241 yr What are the odds on the next England manager anyway? Whose the favourite to take over after the Euros? Smart money would be for Graham Potter I reckon, he turned down the Leicester job, so I'd imagine he's holding out for something. There's not a natural successor in the way Southgate was primed, so could literally be anyone. The issue is Steve, it's Southgate. He did a great job bringing the team together and conencting the squad with the fans again & changing the culture from within. We should have won the Euros, but he resorted to cowardice tactics and he does the same time and time again. We have the players to take more risks, be more aggressive. People can point to France, but France have adapted their style and don't play anywhere near as conservative and defensive as we do. Do Denmark really have a better team or group than us? Not sure on that one. Eriksen probably had his best game all season, that's no conicidence. I totally agree we don't have the right set up, but this is all on the manager. We're easy to play against at the moment- no surprise when we have looked our best under Southgate we had runners off Kane, now we have Bellingham who thinks he's playing for Madrid and God knows what's happening on the left hand side. What's annoying is at international level you don't need to be a football nerd to see how things are not working. Heck, me and a few others called this before the tournament even began with the left hand side and guess what.. it's happened in both games!
June 21, 20241 yr I think if the FA follow on from the successful Southgate appointment the U-21 manager Lee Carsely might be appointed after the tournament. He turned down the Ireland job this year too!

We're worse to our own players than foreign nations our to them. Our national fans are an embarrassment, always have been always will be. When they're not trashing foreign cities they're booing their own players.

He turned down the Ireland job this year too! Maybe. I can't see it myself. Think we'll go for someone different. Not sure who the technical director is at the FA. Our national fans are an embarrassment, always have been always will be. When they're not trashing foreign cities they're booing their own players. I think that's fairly harsh. I can't blame the fans in the stadium for being annoyed - people pay good money for these tickets and want to be entertained. We're playing like we're in a relegation scrap. Also, I thinm that's fairly harsh on the fans. Whilst of course you always get a few bad eggs who look for trouble, by most accounts the atmosphehere of the fans has been really good around the fan parks and residences?
