Bruce Springsteen's 'Dancing In The Dark' is also being co-opted as a football song this year I believe (also back in the top 100 on both iTunes and Spotify).

edit: I see Mack included it in his list already actually

As if people are downloading the Xmas Three Lions version!

That version made me so cross. If they were going to finally do a third one, why not futureproof the lyrics slightly. The 56 years of hurt / 20 weeks of hurt (for the women's game) and references to Christmas made it completely irrelevant about a fortnight after it came out.

Well they did already try releasing a more serious / 'futureproofed' new version of it in 2010 (not sure if you've just forgotten it entirely or if you didn't know that 'The Squad' was still Baddiel, Skinner and The Lightning Seeds, just with added Robbie Williams... and Russell Brand, I'd forgotten about that and now think it's for the best that version is resigned to the dustbin of history oops). No new version of it is ever going to have anything close to the ubiquity of the original. I actually quite liked the Christmas version for what it was i.e. an obviously tongue in cheek throwaway novelty for a unique* situation.

*until it happens again when FIFA inevitably give the World Cup to Saudi Arabia
