Disney in the indie/alt forum? Correct!

An official rock covers album 'A Whole New Sound' has been announced today, release date TBA, with this description from the press release:

As a huge music fan, Mickey has an extensive record collection—which gave him the idea for a new album made for fans of all generations. Mickey and his Friends brought together some of their favorite alternative, rock, and pop-punk bands to reimagine popular Disney songs for A Whole New Sound, and the full album and vinyl will be available later this year.

The first single, Simple Plan taking on 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' from The Lion King is out today. I'm looking forward to finding out who else will feature on this!

Intriguing. My friends are constantly listening to Punk-pop/alternative/metal versions of Disney songs, so it's nice to see they're doing something "officially". I like that Simple Plan cover!
This reminds me of PATD! doing Into The Unknown cover for the Frozen 2 promo.

'i2i' is a whole BOP! I'm not too familiar with the original, but this really feels like it naturally fits the pop-punk sound!

The rumoured tracklist:

01. Part of Your World - Performed by New Found Glory

02. Remember Me - Performed by Mayday Parade

03. Can You Feel the Love Tonight - Performed by Simple Plan

04. I2I - Performed by Magnolia Park

05. A Whole New World - Performed by Yellowcard (Featuring -Chrissy Costanza)

06. Go the Distance - Performed by We The Kings

07. Surface Pressure - Performed by Plain White T's

08. You've Got a Friend in Me - Performed by Meet Me @ The Altar

09. You'll Be in My Heart - Performed by Boys Like Girls

10. Colors of the Wind - Performed by Tokio Hotel

11. Let It Go - Performed by LØLØ

12. Friend Like Me - Performed by Bowling For Soup

I really wish Disney would stop ignoring their best ever song 'I'll Make A Man Out of You' and I kinda would have loved a band to take on 'How Far I'll Go'! Fall Out Boy have a Disney connection due to Big Hero 6 so it would have been cool to see them take on a song!

Plain White T's performing Surface Pressure wut?! :cheeeeblock:

Also, I adore You'll Be In My Heart a lot  , but never heard of any Boys Like Girls music before, so looking forward to listening to this as well.

I'd be surprised if you're into pop-punk and not heard 'The Great Escape' before! :o (But also that was over a decade ago now, so I appreciate it's not impossible for some to have not heard it before )

I figured that Simple Plan would be the biggest band featured when their cover was the lead single.

I'd have loved to see Fall Out Boy here, but with the inclusion of Tokio Hotel, I think their budget was fairly limited.
