It's a quiet chart week again as New London Boy becomes the first number one to get 8 weeks on top since Princess Of China did it 12 years back for Coldplay & Rihanna, and no record has spent more weeks on top since George Michael's A Different Corner (in 2 runs) though some oldies have easily beaten that in the interim - all from the 60's and 70's. Could It Be I'm Falling In Love reaches a new chart peak 51 years on from debut, and Sabrina Carpenter replaces herself in the top 10. Talking of Pet Shop Boys at 1, the B side to A New Bohemia becomes their 7th top 10 of the year, and the other B side enters at 49 to become their 13th or 14th chart entry of 2023. I've lost count!

 

Jake Bugg continues his recent comeback here with another great single new in 55, Travis make it 3 in a row from the new album, Perrie debuts ex-Little Mix with Tears, and Crystal Waters is also back again, this time with a cast of unknowns (and Andy Bell) assisting on Pride (In The Name Of Love), a U2 top 5 from 1984. Can't believe that was 40 years ago! Lady Blackbird grabs a 4th entry, at least, and The Script make a return after a gap of 7 years to estend their chart span to 16 years!

Hi AH, a mixed bag at the mo in life but hey ho, sorry to hear work is sounding an issue, hope it eases a bit!! You never seem to catch a break there! :(

 

New London Boy I identify with the lyrics I think (though more on what might have been earlier), reflecting on the 70's lyrics it's obv a personal song to Neil (& Chris), and what a tune. A New Bohemia is more of a grower, the video helps with the mood. I'm with you on Dreams, it's a building monster, wish it could have made the BJSC final to give it a bit more of a boost. It's back on my car CD playlist, so thanks for bringing it back - it's also in my all-time Chart 1000 now shooting up the rankings :lol:

 

I'll Be Around has never charted for me either, but all the covers of it have. Bizarre, as the original is still the best, I just didnt get to know of it until Terri Wells in 1984. The remix is the one off their Greatest Hits - I thought I was downloading the 1985 single mix, but it sounds a bit more pumped up a la Brother Louie, so I'm just making assumptions it was a re-pushed single mix to try for a hit that they preferred to the original one I thought I knew (and bought on vinyl). I might be wrong though!

 

Yes, Forever is a great track - gotta be honest, Loreen and Purple Disco machine new tracks were better than all but one of the entries this year (Spain), I thought. Hope Forever gets to be a hit, but if the ESC couldnt get it to sell enough.....?
