Thanks Mikey, I'm guessing Shayne Ward could be the next act to do it, or another X-Factor act?

Ronan Keating was at number 1 with When You Say Nothing At All in the same week as he was number 1 in the album charts with By Request with Boyzone.

Is he the only artist to be number 1 in both charts as a solo act and as part of a band?

Good question.

All the one weekers were the cause of the gap between these two

Wow this thread has been resurrected just ahead of it's 10th birthday! :birthday:

I might try to add an update from 2006 to the present day. One thing that occurs to me though is that prior to 1978 the album chart for any given sales week was announced a week later than the singles chart for the same period, and that is why when this changed there were two album charts with the same date at one point that year (I forget exactly which date), so that would need taking into account for these stats, and I've no idea what the turn around was for the Melody Maker and NME album charts prior to Record Retailer charts, or whether the RR album chart was always a week delayed or whether this just came into effect with the BMRB and it's sales diaries in 1969. Perhaps I'm over thinking things though.

Managed to compile this update in a mere hour thanks to the amazing resources on this forum (specifically the week by week stats pages).

I was going to ask, if any act's number 1 single wasn't from the number 1 album, but then I noticed The Beatles, as Sgt Pepper I believe had no singles released from it.
I suppose theres a small chance of Rihanna achieving this feat this week with Work and ANTi?
I don't think Work will go to number 1, but Anti probably will

Is Anti out?

How could she do this to poor dead David Bowie! :(

Surprisingly without "25" and "Hello" by Adele

Strictly speaking the title track did eventually come out as a single, but over ten years later and it didn't get to Number One. Or the Top 40 at all in fact.

These are the ones I think where the single wasn't on the album:

Interesting that Queen have done it with

1) Bohemian Rhapsody and its parent album

2) A Greatest Hits set which includes BR and a single not on that album

3) BR and a Greatest Hits set which doesn't include the song

Is there any value in looking at artists that had simultaneous number 2 single/number 2 album for multiple weeks? Has anyone held the number 2 in both charts for 4 or more weeks?
