Out in October.

Early reactions are that this is absolutely STUNNING. I'm very excited for this. Gives me 'The Iron Giant' vibes!

98% on Rotten Tomatoes at the moment.

Getting really hyped for this now!

Best Animated film of the year (and I imagine it will remain so), absolutely gorgeous animation, I'm so pleased and continue to pray that this hand-drawn/CGI combination is being utilised more, it's so much more real and expressive than the bland Disney-style CGI.

The film definitely has vibes of The Iron Giant, as well as Studio Ghibli, but felt very much like it's own film and a genuine labour of love that's not a cynical cash grab like most films aimed at children are, it's wonderful to see a film like this that doesn't sugarcoat death or talk down to children (

the opossum casually remarking about losing one of her children is brilliant

), the voice cast are all fantastic and make the characters come to life, incredibly emotionally investing that definitely left me teary on a few occasions.

Slightly erred at a sequel already being in production, but don't be put off, this is a truly brilliant experience that I'd recommend to all.

DON'T SPEAK TOO SOON!! In regards to staying as the best animated movie because there is a movie called 'Flow' that looks absolutely STUNNING!!!!!! (I'm getting a topic up for that asap)

I still need to get around to watching this! I can't wait so I should really just go and see it!!

EDIT: Actually looks like we're not getting 'Flow' until March!!!! WTF????

I have seen this... twice now. It's absolutely STUNNING. It's actually a near-perfect movie for me. Just really gorgeous animation and a beautiful story at it's core.

My favourite Dreamworks movie and it'd contend up against Pixar's best too.

EDIT: Also, I really need Maren to get an Oscars performance for 'Kiss The Sky'!

The book is beautiful! I read it a few years ago and have since added it to the English curriculum in our school. So naturally I was very excited to see it being developed into a film and it didn't disappoint. Perfectly captured the magic of the book!
Good film, 7/10 I'd say. A sort of Iron Giant/Wall-E vibe, a feel-good film. You have to accept animals are capable of rational complex intelligent thought, and that species can survive with just one representative on an island (there is no logic, internal or otherwise to explain this) but it's a sweet fantasy film all-in-all, and bears no resemblance to actual reality so just relax, smile, enjoy and shed a tear along the way.
