One of the greatest debut singles of all time, it still holds up now and brings back SO many good memories. I remember it premiering while I was on holiday, and it was before smartphones etc and we had rubbish wifi, so I had to really bend over backwards to be able to listen  was so worth it though, 2011 brought so many of my favourite pop singles
Probably the only One Direction song I heard regularly between 2016 and now, but it was always a good time when this came on at the party. Never looked up who sang what but Liam doing that iconic intro is a testament to his talent.
Such an anthem to begin their career with! I saw One Direction at Wembley and the reaction to this one was just insane!
Gotta Be You  Another song Liam had the opening lines

I've never disliked this like many do, it's certainly not their strongest song (and not even the strongest ballad on the album) and I don't think it was the most ideal single choice, but it's a solid track and I was really into it at the time.

Liam seemed to open almost all of their songs back in the first era! He really excels on the verses here.

One Thing my fave single
"Kryptonite" was a popular word in songs around this time, wasn't it! This is a bop although not one of my highlights.

I've always loved this but used to find it less essential, as I thought they did this kinda thing better on other singles, but I heard it recently for the first time in a while and it sounded really fresh. Definitely one of their best videos!

I hadn't heard Gotta Be You since December 2014 according to my Last.fm :drama: Never really been a favourite of mine but it's not that bad.

One Thing was a bit of a "course correction" for me... its UK chart run has always puzzled me - the song feels bigger to me than this would suggest. Out of the Top 40 two weeks after peaking :drama:

Definitely one of their best videos!

Yeah just looking at the video still, I remember it being a fun video!

My basic opinion of One Direction songs is that the pop part of them is not something I normally seek out so they held little appeal for me but there was a tendency towards pop-rock at times which was appreciated. Particularly in the upbeat songs.

Now, it just all sounds pretty pleasant and on a par with other pop bands like McFly - defo for Gotta Be You, and One Thing too, I'm enjoying this relook more than I expected to.
