October 24, 2024Oct 24 it's 1000% the opposite lots of huge huge artists releasing this year, just not in Q4 Q1 is the new Q4 we've had new Taylor, new Billie Eilish, new Dua Lipa, new Beyonce, new Ariana, these are the biggest artists and biggest album sellers in the world right now, there is no one else... plus add to that Sabrina, BRAT, Chappel Roan etc... nobody buys music as Xmas presents anymore so Q4 is dead for music sales are multi vinyl variant purchases that fans grab usually the minute they're available, usually selling out in a matter of hours so that really is not fe´asible as xmas gift
October 24, 2024Oct 24 Q4 used to be so stacked, but also a little overwhelming with so many huge artists all unleashing big lead singles and albums in October/November. It was a bit mad how reliant the industry was on this period and I'm sure resulted in many flops that wouldn't have happened otherwise. Like in the early 00s, Craig David's What's Ya Flava would have been a bigger summer hit, Delta Goodrem should never have released her second album in Q4 and should have left it to January when it would have got more attention. It is funny how Q1/Q2 is now the busy time of year, when it used to be the quietest, but you only need to look at the sales figures this year to see how strong it was. The forum was agog at sales figures at the top end going through the roof for months, and many thought it was possibly a new trend of high sales that would continue, but I did have a feeling it was just an unusual period of a LOT of strong product all out at the same time. Which proved the case because as soon as the release schedule dried up, which it really did in Q3, sales fell back to normal levels quite quickly.
