Posted November 13, 2024Nov 13 wvSwg5gv88w The latest film from acclaimed director, Sean Baker (Director of The Florida Project & Red Rocket from recent years, as well as Tangerine, infamously shot entirely on an iPhone 5s) follows a sex worker's relationship to the wealthy son of a Russian Oligarch. Critical acclaim has been huge (first American film to win the Palme d'Or since The Tree of Life) and box office respectable thus far for the budget, it's sure to get some Awards buzz, especially for Mikey Maddison's breakout performance.
November 13, 2024Nov 13 Author I know the last P'alme d'Or winner was a tad divisive on here, but I would seriously recommend this one. The trailer didn't seem like it would interest me much, but the critical acclaim intrigued me. It starts and finishes as such a different cinematic experience, it's so gripping and also hilarious yet with a tragic sentiment come the ending. Mikey Maddison is obviously wonderful and definitely a standout pick for Awards, but all of them did a great job especially the henchmen who turn from villainous to bumbling to genuine, sympathetic characters really well in what is a clearly comic situation
November 13, 2024Nov 13 This was spellbinding. Definitely one of my favourite films of the year. It felt so full of life, had real depth of characters and some of the funniest sequences I’ve seen in ages. Real incredible stuff.
November 14, 2024Nov 14 I wasn't expecting it to be as funny as it turned out to be. It's so good! I do think the movie doesn't work quite as well as it does without Mikey. She is truly incredible and worthy of every praise she's about to get through the upcoming awards szn. Don't get me wrong, I think everyone was great, but I just think Mikey in that lead role elevated it to the place it needed to be.
