A festive survivor to determine the best and worst singles for John Lewis ads over the years.

The previous round has seen the following song eliminated;

2010: Ellie Goulding – Your Song
Ellie Goulding's cover of the Elton John song "Your Song" was the soundtrack to a collection of images showing people preparing gifts for their loved ones. Most notably, two parents attempt to secretly carry a rocking horse up some stairs whilst their children watch television. The advert concludes with a boy taking a stocking of presents outside to his pet dog in the snow, and hanging it on the kennel.

2009: Taken By Trees – Sweet Child o' Mine
2010: Ellie Goulding – Your Song
2011: Slow Moving Millie – Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want
2012: Gabrielle Aplin – The Power Of Love
2013: Lily Allen – Somewhere Only We Know
2014: Tom Odell – Real Love
2015: Aurora – Half The World Away
2016: Vaults – One Day I'll Fly Away
2017: Elbow – Golden Slumbers
2018: Elton John – Your Song
2019: Bastille – Can't Fight This Feeling
2020: Celeste – A Little Love
2021: Lola Young – Together In Electric Dreams
2022: Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox feat. Puddles Pity Party – All The Small Things
2023: Andrea Bocelli – Festa
2024: Richard Ashcroft – Sonnet

Which means that...

Your winner as the ultimate official John Lewis single is;

2012: Gabrielle Aplin – The Power Of Love
Using 20-year-old Gabrielle Aplin's version of the Frankie Goes to Hollywood classic "The Power of Love", the 2012 advert showed a snowman who traversed fields, a river, a mountain to obtain a perfect Christmas gift for Mrs. Snowman. The advert was very quickly followed up by a children's picture book which was hastily written and published immediately after the advert's first screening. The song was the first song from the John Lewis Christmas adverts to be a UK Singles Chart number one.

Full results as follows;

1. 2012: Gabrielle Aplin – The Power Of Love
2. 2010: Ellie Goulding – Your Song
3. 2020: Celeste – A Little Love
4. 2013: Lily Allen – Somewhere Only We Know
5. 2016: Vaults – One Day I'll Fly Away
6. 2014: Tom Odell – Real Love
6. 2019: Bastille – Can't Fight This Feeling
8. 2009: Taken By Trees – Sweet Child o' Mine
8. 2018: Elton John – Your Song
10. 2017: Elbow – Golden Slumbers
10. 2021: Lola Young – Together In Electric Dreams
10. 2024: Richard Ashcroft – Sonnet
13. 2011: Slow Moving Millie – Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want
13. 2022: Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox feat. Puddles Pity Party – All The Small Things
13. 2023: Andrea Bocelli – Festa

The outcome has shown that the more recent official singles, bar Celeste, have all been quickly forgotten or dismissed. It is the original cover singles by female singers that are regarded the best, with Vaults, Lily, Ellie and Gabriella all reaching the Top 5. The male singers aren't as well regarded.

Whether the outcome might have been different based upon the advert visuals might have been very different, but it is the music this survivor poll was rating and BuzzJack have made their choice.

Thanks to all who took part this year! ^_^
