Carlos Sainz fined €10,000 for being five seconds late to the grid for the national anthems because he had a stomach complaint and needed to visit the toilet. Now he might be fined again for swearing.

It wouldn't be changing the cars just for one track. Hungary, Jeddha, Barcelona, Singapore, Miami, Suzuka, Imola all have problems delivering overtaking. You would improve the racing across the board.

Liam ahead of Max oh I know the haters are SEETHING

  • It was hit and miss. For the hardcore fans who hate the overall commercialisation of the sport in the past 10 years it would have been a nightmare but generally it was a perfectly serviceable event. A

Oscar the first to put 2 on the board then this season, got the job done in quali. In fact every single win this season has come from pole so it very much seems like the most consistent qualifier will end up the champion.

The tire degradation made things more entertaining than it could've been.

Was an entertaining race. Surprised Piastri has got to two wins before Norris but here we are

Did feel like penalties were maybe a bit excessive overall. Glad they didn’t penalise Russell

Feel for Doohan - he was on for his first points, but great to see Gasly so high

Gutted for Nico getting disqualified

Piastri has a 100% pole to win conversion rate, which is better than any other driver with multiple wins

Great qualy, Norris flopping hard again

Verstappen ruled, positively surprised with Sainz

Lance Stroll now holds the unwanted record for the most Q1 eliminations in F1 history (75)

Weirdly I still think Norris is slightly quicker overall

Good race with some good moments. Good to see Sainz in the points again

Max obviously not happy with the time penalty - don’t understand why he wasn’t just ordered to give up the place…

I have absolutely no idea what his issue was with that penalty, it's about as blatant as it gets. Although it should definitely have been to give the position back or else everyone might as well just straight line the first corner, take the 5 second penalty and drive away into the distance...

Really enjoyed the race

Piastri is doing it almost too easily

Sainz was great, looks like it takes some time for everybody to adjust

finally. great race for Ferrari, well Leclerc, Hamilton was mediocre at best

Verstappen should have just given the position back, the team should've ordered it knowing it was going to be obvious penalty. At least he would've had a chance to get it back in that scenario. No chance when he has to give up time in the pits.

Verstappen gambled and lost this time. Had he given the position back he'd have been sat behind Piastri and struggled with overheating and tyre deg, the latter of which is a known problem for the car this year and ran the risk of him being drawn in to conflict with either Leclerc, Russell or Norris, depending on how things panned out in the race.

In front he can stay out longer and extend the stint, hoping the McLaren suffers higher deg and overheating through following. Pisatri acknowledged the first stint was difficult to manage whilst following Max.

Additionally, there's a chance of a safety car at the right moment that could effectively negate any penalty.

A risk worth taking but one that didn't pan out. It was clear that he wasn't going to give the place back long before the safety car made that impossible. The Race Director could have messaged the team and instructed them to but they passed the decision straight to the stewards.

The real question is whether the 5 second penalty was the right one and not the standard 10 seconds for the infringement.

I know they suggested mitigating circumstances but there's an argument to say that the infringement was unaffected by other drivers and cars which is usually the reason for leniency.

A lot of people think lap 1 should make no difference when out front.

I thought the penalty was about right but I don't believe it being lap 1 turn 1 made any difference to what Max decided to do. He'd have done the same on lap 25

  • 2 weeks later...

Ferrari's special Miami livery has to be one of the worst of all time, looks like two completely different cars have been welded together. I wouldn't be against Leclerc and Hamilton taking each other out at turn 1 so I don't have to see it.
