Of those with multiple poles, only 4 drivers have a worse ratio -

Jean-Pierre Jabouille - 16.7% (1 in 6)

David Coulthard - 16.7% (2 in 12)

Ralf Schumacher - 16.7% (1 in 6)

Rene Arnoux - 11.1% (2 in 18)

In his defence, a good chunk of those poles were him pulling out exceptional laps in inferior cars that never stood a chance over a full race distance but it's becoming more and more of a stick to beat him with the longer the run continues.

Interesting stats there^ especially surprising considering DC & Ralf won 13 and 6 races respectively therefore almost all of their wins didn't come from pole.

As for the race, Norris pulling off a Leclerc Monza 2024 very successfully there. Definitely lucked into that strategy with his poor start but he made it work.

Had he not crashed into the back of Oscar in Canada and just sat behind him to finish P5 there he'd actually now be leading the standings by 1 point. Which is odd as from my perspective Oscar has comprehensively outperformed him for most of this season.

There's also quite a few drivers who had multiple poles but didn't convert any of them to wins e.g.:

Chris Amon - 5 pole positions but never won a race
Keke Rosberg - 5 pole positions and 5 victories but never managed both in the same race
Teo Fabi - 3 pole positions but never led a lap

I knew the Teo Fabi one but that's a corker of a stat re Keke!

Another one I just remembered is Montoya scoring 7 poles in 2002 (including 5 in a row) but no wins, might be the worst conversion rate in a single season.

Interestingly, Jim Clark is noticeably absent, despite his utter dominance. He doesn't feature in the top 10 as his percentage is 42.42% with only 14 wins from 33 poles.

However, since he never gets enough recognition these days it's worth noting that -

In 15 of those 33 races his car failed on him (usually whilst running at or near the front), causing a DNF.

In 1 race he spun out by himself.

In 2 races a mechanical failure caused him to go a lap down and had to fight his way back, finishing 3rd and 6th respectively.

In 1 race his engine lost power, allowing Surtees to pass him.

1962 - 6 poles. 2 wins from pole. 4 mechanical DNFs

1963 -7 poles. 4 wins from pole. 2 mechanical DNFs. Finished 2nd in Italy after his engine lost power while leading

1964 - 5 poles. 1 win from pole. 4 mechanical DNFs.

1965 - 6 poles. 4 wins from pole. 2 mechanical DNFs

1966 - 2 poles. No wins from pole. 1 DNF due to driver error. 1 mechanical DNF

1967 - 6 poles. 2 wins from pole. 2 mechanical DNFS. Finished 6th in Belgium following a 2 minute pit stop taken whilst 20 seconds ahead of the field. Finished 3rd in Italy 3rd due to running out of fuel whilst leading on last lap, despite having been a lap down due to puncture (often considered his greatest race)

1968 -1 pole. 1 wind from pole. Killed before the 2nd race

I know you can make excuses for a number of other high profile drivers and their stats but I can't think of another driver who was so comprehensively denied the level of success their talent deserved by unreliable cars.
