thanks susie that are very nice pics

Susie must have been the referee. She was obviously standing right on the pitch. Or was she a streaker? :o Or does she have a camera with the best telephoto lens ever produced? ;)

I can assure you it was a pleasure taking the pictures.

As if I'd streak LOL. I was right in the front though, I could touch the grass, and I did have a zoom, abeit a normal one. The bloke behind did have one that was huge. Much more pro than mine would be.

Edited by Susie

To be fair Susie if you were streaking none of the players seem to be paying you much attention.

The bloke behind did have one that was huge.

Susie! :o For goodness sake!

PM welcomes UNICEF football stars to Number 10

24 May 2006

Tony Blair held a special reception for "Soccer Aid" in Downing Street today.

Organised by pop star Robbie Williams, Soccer Aid is raising funds for UNICEF and its partners, who protect children around the world from disease, abuse, poverty or war.

See some images from the reception

He has brought together World Cup football legends and celebrities to take part in a special match between an "England" and "Rest of the World" team.

The game takes place this Saturday at Old Trafford.

More on Soccer Aid and UNICEF (opens in new window)

Speaking alongside South African president Thabo Mbeki, the PM told those gathered at the reception that the work UNICEF do is "absolutely remarkable" and wished both teams well in the final.

UNICEF exists to protect the world's children whenever and wherever they are at risk.

They focus on health, education and child protection.

Celebrities and soccer legends involved in the project include Terry Venables, Ewan McGregor, Ruud Gullit and Gordon Ramsey

HOT SCOTS STEAL THE SHOW IN WARM-UP

Gary Ralston

SCOTLAND rolled back the years yesterday to prove we've still got what it takes at international level.

We were invited to take part in a game against the Rest of the World ahead of Saturday's Socceraid event at Old Trafford.

Two teams made up of pros and celebrities will battle it out in front of 70,000 fans, with proceeds going to UNICEF.

We provided warm-up opposition for Ruud Gullit's side. They were the Rest of the World - we were out of this world as we thumped them 7-3.

Does anyone have Pele's phone number because we are now keen to fix up a game against his Brazil side that won the World Cup in 1970?

Take a bow Andy Goram, Tom Boyd, Colin Hendry, Derek Whyte, Darren Jackson, Gary McAllister, Paul Lambert, Stuart McCall, Billy McKinlay and Gordon Durie.

Along with yours truly we raced into a 6-1 half-time lead before taking our foot off the gas in the second half.

The game was shown on ITV last night and Jukebox Durie was revelling in his hat-trick, while The Goalie showed he's still top drawer with a couple of fantastic stops.

Standouts for the Rest of the World included Gianfranco Zola but I fancy England for the big one on Saturday at Manchester United's ground.

I'll be co-commentating with Clive Tyldesley and so won't be on hand to help the Rest of the World but a former Rangers team-mate hopes to be fit.

I remember Gordon Ramsay from his time at Ibrox and he's desperate to make the match, although he's nursing a knock.

I'll be sharpening my tongue over the next 48 hours as I prepare to hand out the pelters but I've got to admit some of these celebrities are not bad.

Players such as GMTV host Ben Shephard, snooker player Ronnie O'Sullivan and actor Dean Lennox Kelly are decent operators.

Also, hats off to Robbie Williams - the boy's got a decent left peg at full-back and he's not afraid to put in a tackle.

The Rest of the World will have to make a couple of dramatic changes if they are to upset England - calling up 11 Scots might not be a bad start.

As told to Gary Ralston

Skippers Ready For OT Battle

Soccer Aid captains Robbie Williams and Gordon Ramsay are relishing Saturday's Old Trafford battle between England and the Rest of the World, with both insisting their team can win.

Robbie is skippering the England side which features a host of international legends including Gazza, David Seaman and Tony Adams, while Gordon is leading the Rest of the World team which includes world stars Gianfranco Zola, Peter Schmeichel and Maradona.

Both sides have been training hard for the past week in preparation for Saturday's match which is a 75,000 sell-out.

"I can quite imagine how it will feel to step out at Old Trafford," explained Robbie in his column for the Soccer Aid matchday programme.

"I’ll probably feel a heap of different emotions when I’m stood in the tunnel and I think I’ll be the most nervous out of everyone involved.

"We have some unbelievable legends in our side, as well as some very accomplished celebrities who all look very composed on the ball. The training sessions have gone really well and I think we’ve got a great chance of winning," he added.

Rest of the World skipper Ramsay is equally confident his side can score victory on the night and believes his team's legends could prove to be the difference.

"In Zola, Schmeichel, Matthaus, Desailly, Ginola and Dunga we have a group of players who have been extremely successful in their careers and who are hungry to be successful again," wrote the chef in his programme column.

"Our lads have done really well in training over the last two weeks and there’s an excellent team spirit within the camp.

"We’re certainly going to be up against a very talented England team but I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think we could win," he added.

Pick up your copy of the official matchday programme on Saturday at the game. Turnstiles open at 5.15pm.

Tony Blair is used to his guests wearing smart suits not track suits and trainers when they visit Downing Street. But the British prime minister was happy to make an exception on Wednesday afternoon when he welcomed Robbie Williams and a large group of his soccer-mad friends to Number 11.

The 32-year-old star paid a visit to the politician's residence to publicise his Soccer Aid charity match, which will take place this weekend at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium. Proudly sporting training gear with a three lions crest emblazoned across the breast, the singer told his host of his commitment to combating Aids in Africa.

Saturday's match, which features a roll-call of British celebs, will see the chart-topper leading his England side out against Scottish chef Gordon Ramsay's rest of the world team. And with former professionals like John Barnes, Paul Gascoigne, David Seaman and Tony Adams in his squad, Robbie is hoping to make light work of the opposition. The chart-topper also counts actor Damian Lewis, singer David Gray and TV presenters Ben Shephard, Jamie Theakston and Angus Deaton among his team-mates.

Gordon also has a few aces in his pack, though, with French stars David Ginola and Marcel Desailly joining Italian legend Gianfranco Zola in the line-up. Former Westlife singer Brian McFadden will bring the luck of the Irish to the squad, while Olympic athlete Ben Johnson and Formula One driver Eddie Irvine are sure to set a fast pace.

Streaking ... I hadn't thought of that!!!

Saves me wondering what to wear on Saturday ........

(don't think my pics will be quite as good!!!)

Not more streaking!? I got dragged into that at about page 2 of this thread!! LOL!

Wow, I'm insanely, stupidly, ridiculously excited!! :D I can't wait for Saturday :cheer:

Touts cash in on Soccer Aid

Adam Moss

INTERNET touts are asking £500 each for £15 tickets for tomorrow's star-studded charity football match at Old Trafford.

Organisers say they are helpless to stop people cashing in on the 75,000 sell-out Soccer Aid event.

The two teams - captained by singer Robbie Williams and chef Gordon Ramsay - aim to raise money for Unicef to help children round the world.

Organisers of the big match, to be screened on TV, fear hundreds more tickets will flood on to the black market in the next 24 hours because extensive coverage of the build-up has led to a massive rise in interest.

But they are powerless to do anything about the profiteers, because the sale of tickets on internet auction sites is not covered by laws banning ticket touting at football matches.

Unscrupulous

A Soccer Aid spokesman said the auction website involved had refused to withdraw the tickets.

He appealed to people not to buy the tickets from unscrupulous touts, and called on fans to watch the live ITV broadcast instead.

ITV sports spokesman James MacLeod said: "The entire 75,000-ticket allocation for the match is sold out. The ITV coverage has raised interest. The problem now is the tickets starting to appear for sale on the internet. At first it was just one or two, going for about £150. But that number is increasing by the hour and some are going for up to £500 each.

"It is a shame people are making a profit on the back of a charity match. We think it completely goes against the spirit of the whole event. These tickets cost just £15 for adults and £5 for children."

A spokesman for the auction website said: "We only allow legal items to be sold on our website. The resale of tickets for this event is not illegal."

Last year, the same site did remove tickets for the London Live 8 event in aid of Africa after organiser Bob Geldof branded their resale "sick profiteering".
