Kasabian's Serge Rocks Up For Soccer Aid 2012

3 May 2012

There are just over three weeks to go until Soccer Aid hits Old Trafford and there are still some huge names to be announced. The latest megastar to be confirmed Sergio Pizzorno from the mighty rock band, Kasabian.

Serge had originally dreamt of being a footballer when he was younger, but his plans soon changed when his careers adviser disagreed: "I told my careers adviser I wanted to be centre forward for Leicester City. When he said 'No' I thought I'd be in a rock 'n' roll band." It's time for him to swap his guitar for football boots and sell out arenas for the Theatre of Dreams to help raise money for UNICEF!

He joins the Rest of the World team, captained by Welsh actor Michael Sheen, alongside Will Ferrell, Gerard Butler, Mike Myers, James McAvoy, Patrick Kielty and Gordon Ramsay with ex Manchester United players Edwin van der Sar, Roy Keane, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Jaap Stam. The team will be managed by legendary Scot, Kenny Dalglish.

The formidable England team will be captained by Robbie Williams, with Jason Isaacs, Mark Owen, Marvin Humes, Aston Merrygold, Olly Murs, John Bishop, Jonathan Wilkes, Ben Shephard, Jamie Theakston and Paddy McGuinness. Football heroes Teddy Sheringham, David Seaman and Martin Keown will complete the squad. For the first time Bradley Walsh takes on the role as Coach with Jamie Redknapp assistant managing.

Edward Norton And Woody Harrelson Sign Up To Soccer Aid 2012

11 May 2012

Last week we announced that Serge Pizzorno would be joining the Rest of the World squad for Soccer Aid 2012. This week we have yet more superstar names confirmed to take part in the big game at Old Trafford...

Actor Woody Harrelson returns to the Rest of the World team alongside newcomer, actor, filmmaker, and UN Goodwill Ambassador for Biodiversity Edward Norton!

"As far as chances to have fun while doing something that helps other people...it doesn't get much better than this," said Edward, talking about taking part in Soccer Aid 2012.

Anyone watching in 2010 will know that Woody scored the winning penalty during the game, securing the trophy for the Rest of the World team for the first time in the tournament’s history and he'll be hoping for victory once again at Old Trafford.

“Scoring the winning goal at Old Trafford in 2010 was probably the highlight of a pretty great life," said Woody Harrelson. "Granted, I instantly became the least popular man in England, but they loved me in Ireland. It was great to be a part of the Rest of the World’s first victory against the English team, I can't wait to see what happens this time!”

Joining Woody and Edward in the Rest of the World team will be four-time Champions League winner, Dutch international and current AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf.

Taking on the formidable Rest of The World are the latest England team signings, striker Kevin Phillips and defender Des Walker.

Kevin was the only Englishman to have won the European Golden Shoe – an award for the top goal scorer in the European premiership league and Des, best known for playing in England's famous Italia '90 team which got to the semi-finals of The World Cup, earned 59 caps playing for England during his career.

The best news is that tickets are still available! Be a part of one of the most exciting football matches of the year and support UNICEF...

I'm dithering as to go to this! I really like Woody Harrelson and Will Ferrell! I want to treat myself and its between this and the London Film & Comic Convention.

Its a gathering of TV and film people from Sci-Fi programs and films all in one place to have photo shoots, chat with the fans, sign autographs, give talks etc. There's also a load of stuff on sale - figures, games, comics, t-shirts, posters etc. I almost went to one years ago (a friend who is a Star Trek freak wanted me to go with him) but I just thought it was a bit weird so I chickened out. However - they're really common now and all sorts of people go to them. This one is particularly interesting to me as it has Jon Frakes (STNG), Jane Badler (V), Gillian Anderson (X-Files), Norman Reedus (Walking Dead), some Doctor Who people (I've never been a Dr Who fan though), and a load of others. The entry fee is not extortionate but I'm still debating!!!!!

I am a big Trekkie fan myself Kath having watched all the various series on the telly but would never make it to a convention but I would think they would be great fun. Gillian Anderson is attending Wow !! , how much is the entry fee btw

My friend went to a Trekkie convention a few years back under protest (apparently) I think she enjoyed it but wouldn't admit it to me.

As for deciding where to go Kath, depends on how much you like footy, not a Robbie fan so I can't imagine you'd be considering going

for that reason.

You can always support Soccer aid in other ways and record it on the tv to watch later.

Here's a link to the site. The daily entry isn't bad (£6.00) obviously you pay for stuff when you're in there - but I'd only be going for a mooch around. I'm not a big one for autographs so I wouldn't be bothered with that - but if you're willing to queue - then you can get your picture taken with your favourites (there are official 'professional' photo-shoots you can book in advance - but I don't think many people bother with those.) I've just noticed that Anthony Head (Buffy) and Tom Skerrit (Alien) are at this one too.

As I said though - I had the chance of going to one of these back in the 80's (when they really were weird) people dressing up as Klingons and Romulans!!!! The thing is - hotel accommodation is so expensive - its a bit off-putting. At least Manchester United's ground is a lot nearer - and I could be there and back in a day! Then again - I may just buy another pair of shoes!

Decision, Decisions!

If I'm honest - I prefer Cricket or Rugby League. I remember going to a celebrity cricket match years back (Bill Wyman of The Stones organised it). It was brilliant - and I swear Michael Holding looked straight at me when he was running for the boundary - that man was seriously good looking!

Kath

Edward Norton? Ooooh I like him. :cheer:

I must admit, he's certainly getting the Hollywood A listers this time.
