Robbie Williams has lifted this year's Soccer Aid trophy for England.

The England team were crowned champions of the bi-annual charity match, after beating the Rest of the World team 3-1

The Rest of the World team - featuring the likes of Hollywood stars Will Ferrell, Edward Norton and Gerard Butler - took the lead through Sergio Pizzorno in the first 15 minutes.

The Kasabian musician scored a chipped finish against former England keeper David Seaman.

England eventually equalised later in the second half after Graeme Le Saux's shot deflected off Teddy Sheringham.

They soon after took the lead when co-creator Jonathan Wilkes scored his third Soccer Aid goal with a finish from a tight angle.

Blackpool player Kevin Phillips completed the victory with a well-struck shot just outside the area.

During the match, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay was stretchered off after a foul by Sheringham. Olly Murs and Roy Keane were also taken off through injury

Robbie Williams - who before the match hinted that he may not be able to play due to a back problem - came on in the second half to witness his team win the event for a third time.

Speaking after the match, Wilkes said: "When me and Rob came up with this we never dreamt of this. Soccer Aid just gets stronger and stronger. Rob played through the pain barrier. Him coming on changed the game for us."

Olly Murs said: "It's a great feeling, it's just a shame I had to come off, but I'm really happy for the whole team. It's been amazing this year, I just loved every minute of it, I'm really chuffed. I trained all week, I had no problems. To pull off with a hamstring, I was gutted. but it was brilliant."

Rest of the World captain Michael Sheen said: "No more boybands from now on! Let's have UB40. But good for them, they were brilliant."

Man of the Match Pizzorno added: "I'm proud of that one. I want to dedicate that to Tom Meighan, he's just had a baby girl. It's a real honour to be asked to play, that's a lot of money raised."

The charity event was able to raise over £4 million in funds for UNICEF.

Robbie Williams' England side beat a team of Hollywood A-listers and football legends 3-1 in the fourth Soccer Aid at Manchester's Old Trafford stadium. Two teams of celebrities, including Hollywood actors Will Ferrell, Edward Norton and Michael Sheen, clashed in tonight's game which raised more than #4 million for Unicef.

The Soccer Aid event saw an England side, led by Take That's Williams, take on a Rest of the World team. Before tonight's game Soccer Aid had raised more than of #6.5 million through ticket sales and donations, with all profits going to Unicef's work helping children across the world. Today the Government pledged to match all the cash raised through donations.

International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell said: "The huge public response to the Soccer Aid appeal shows that those watching tonight's game are united not only by a love of football but by a fantastic generosity of spirit. "We will reflect that spirit by matching pound for pound from our existing aid budget all public donations, helping Unicef reach hundreds of thousands more children in east and west Africa."

Players on the England team included comedians John Bishop and Paddy McGuinness, singers Olly Murs and Mark Owen, with Robbie Williams as team captain. They were joined by former footballers including Graeme Le Saux, Martin Keown, Kevin Phillips, David Seaman, Teddy Sheringham and Des Walker. Sam Allardyce managed the team.

Playing for the Rest of the World were actor Gerard Butler, former boxer Joe Calzaghe and Hollywood superstars Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson, James McAvoy, Ed Norton and Mike Myers. Also playing was chef Gordon Ramsay with star of stage and screen Michael Sheen as captain. They were joined by football legends Hernan Crespo, Roy Keane, Clarence Seedorf, Jaap Stam, Edwin Van Der Sar and Freddie Ljungberg. Former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish took charge of the team.

The first half came to an end with the Rest of the World team 1-0 up, thanks to a goal from Kasabian guitarist Sergio Pizzorno. The musician got on to the end of a pass from former Arsenal player Freddie Ljungberg and chipped the ball over David Seaman in the England goal.

In the second half Chef Gordon Ramsay was carried off the pitch on a stretcher after a late challenge from former England international Teddy Sheringham.

Shortly afterwards Sheringham deflected a Graeme Le Saux shot into the back of the net to equalise for England. Then, just minutes later, Jonathan Wilkes put England 2-1 up.

Kevin Phillips rounded off the game with a goal in the 89th minute to seal a 3-1 win for England.

Manchester Evening News

We watched this last night on TV (glad we didn't go to Old Trafford - I think I would have passed out from heat exhaustion - it was bad enough strolling through Southport - but it must have been stifling inside that stadium).

Really good fun. Apart from the obvious (Wilkes) I thought Gerard Butler had a good game - and that first goal from the fella from Kasabian was brilliant - worthy of note in ANY match - let alone a pro-celebrity.

I do wish though that the government wouldn't say 'we'll match £ for £' - they should say 'the great british Taxpayer will match £ for £' like we always do. Although in reality - what Cameron will do is simply take the money from one charity to give it to this 'celeb-packed' one. Hey - you never know - the way Cameron is so 'chillaxed' - Robbie may be able to talk him around into playing in the next Soccer Aid match (that is if Gary hasn't nabbed 'Dave' to sing along on his next charidee record  )

I honestly don't care if these things are for charity or not though - I love these kind of pro/celebrity things - be it cricket, golf or footie!

On another matter - has Gordon Ramsay come out of intensive care yet? Bloody hell - you'd have thought Sheringham had taken a crossbow to him or something the way he was carrying on. Bloody cissy footie players! Rugby players don't come off the pitch unless they've got severed limbs - and even then they have to ask permission! Thinking about Sheringham's challenge though my husband said that he probably 'did it' to get his own back for a sh/te meal he'd had at one of Ramsay's restaurants.

Bah. That result was a travesty. Clearly a fix. :smoke:

On the plus side, I did laugh when Gordon Ramsay got flattened by Sheringham. Apparently he was taken to hospital. Not sure why.

I've been to Southport. Or was it Stockport. The one at the sea with the pier. It was hot when I went there too. :w00t:

Gordon has been relased from hospital according to Soccer Aid Twitter officials, he is a bit sore

Jeez Sherringham relly went for him, I think he should have been RED-CARDED <_<

I agree. :o I'd have been really annoyed. If it had been Gerard Butler or James McAvoy. But Ramsay? Meh. -_-
By the way. I'm putting a bet on for England at the Euro footie thing. ^_^
