Not a single skip to be found here. He's done it again clap Young American Heart's an amazing closer too in much the same way as What Do You Want.

Honestly the hottest album cover of all time He played snippets of some of the songs at his last run of shows in 2024 and there's so many good ones - I Wanna Be the One You Call, Young American Heart

  • I am SO ready for this! And yes, hottest album cover EVER! The song titles sound very intriguing on the most part - Mr. Electric Blue, Mystical Magical and Young American Heart especially!

Video for Mr Electric Blue laughing at the haters. Awesome

This is a massive slump in quality and quanity from the first. Only 30 minutes which I know is more the norm now but the album is preety much nothing? Apart from sorry im here, magical, Mr electric and wanted man, this should have been a cute EP. Sounds like a rushed project with no vision

Love the album on first play! Been hyped for Mr Electric Blue since he played a clip of it at the concert I went to last November and it hasn't disappointed. Wanted Man is amazing as well!

I also think the vision is clear, and his sound has developed a lot since album 1, only the ballads would have worked on Fireworks & Rollerblades.

See i think he hasn't developed at all since the 1st album and this album lacks any personality! Maybe it will grow but I just dont see it up to the highs as his debut

We'll have to agree to disagree but I don't think you'd get Mystical Magical, Wanted Man, Mr Electric Blue, etc on the first album, or his earlier EPs! He's committed to the 80s vibe on this album, and he's definitely leaned into the Freddie Mercury inspirations in his aesthetic and performances.

I'm actually really coming around to him and liking this new stuff, I wasn't at all fussed before!

I think he's carving out a distinct style and image for himself too (even if it is all a bit Freddie Mercury but that's no bad thing)

Really love this album. So much better than f and r. Wanted man is SO GOOD

I need to give the album a listen but I really don’t get the hate for him online. There are so many dull, nondescript male artists out there and he’s the only guy rivalling the pop girls with visuals, aesthetics and charisma. The MEB music video is fantastic!

I'm liking this album I'm too busy hammering Jade today to really get into it but I think I actually prefer this album to his first.

Just watched the video to Mr Electric Blue and it's so much fun! Pokes fun at himself and, most notably, the obnoxiously loud keyboard warriors.

American Heart – Benson Boone – Mellope Album Review

TRACK BY TRACK REVIEW:

1. Sorry, I'm Here For Someone Else (5.5/10)

Rare Benson Boone L. As Benson was one of my most streamed artists ever and 95% of the time creates something I enjoy, I was very much excited (to say the least) about this upcoming new era, and the opening single will set the tone for how I'm going to feel. To keep it short and real, Benson played it safe and did exactly what he'd been doing before but even worse, and the lyrics feel like they took a downgrade. The lyrics are like a page out of someone's diary about some cringe interaction with a waitress serving fries. Come on, Benson, what is this?? Is it due to the industry's high demand for quickly pushing out singles? Because this feels rushed and so damn boring that there's no room to have any new ideas of what Benson may be doing in the future with his music. Move on, make something new, or at least up to quality like your previous hit singles?

2. Mr Electric Blue (7.1/10)

It's like "Mystical Magical" but if it didn't carry a whole hate train on the internet. The buildup tone on "Watch the way you talk to me" really adds up to the full kick in the hook. Good song.

3. Man In Me (8.1/10)

At times this partly reminded me of opera with the deeper vocal tone that moves in a quirky yet wonderful way. The song has this emotional tone that's moving whilst maintaining that "wow" factor when it comes down to the song's production. Definitely beating the boring allegations with this one.

4. Mystical Magical (7/10)

A step up from 'Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else', this has a melody resembling 'Physical', which is shown more in the chorus. Benson gives a tune which makes you want to dance, but in an elegant way; it's Benson's usual, but it feels like it has more class to it.

5. Reminds Me Of You (7.6/10)

The clean and smooth soulful tone that it kicks into on the hook reminds me partly of Bruno Mars. The energy is so well laid out; I love it.

6. Momma Song (5/10)

This is the worst song from the upcoming album; if you've heard the start, you've heard the rest because there's no real hook… It's just so monotone and really lacks inspiration… It's your typical low-pitched pop song that sounds like something Ed Sheeran would get on. At least the lyrics were a tribute to his mother, but I can't even find it sweet purely because of how tedious it is.

7. I Want to Be the One You Call (5/10)

Benson uses the same poor formula that made his less thought-out production. It's typical Benson that makes this guy get hated on in a song.

8. Wanted Man (7.2/10)

This is giving me a little essence of many things… The sound is hard to describe by itself. It's fast-paced and has the signature Benson screams; the screams aren't as loud as the ones in "Beautiful Things", but they're more fit for a radio-rock song.

9. Take Me Home (8/10)

Takes me back to his older eras of emotional music, the stuff that never felt meant for social media and instead felt like it had genuine emotion and character.

10. Young American Heart (7.7/10)

This is the perfection of Benson's screams and arguably one of the least artificial-sounding things on the album. The instrumentals (such as the drums) play a key part in the song, and the hook feels like the centre stage and bold vocal performance that Boone wanted it to be. A great album ending.

OVERVIEW:

The singles definitely shouldn't have been the singles; they don't showcase Benson's incredibly raw and real vocals and talent. And honestly, most of the hate for Benson and the low score just comes from "Beautiful Things" and "Mystical Magical" (which I didn't even think was that bad). Anyone who takes a real look into Benson will know he's more than a company pop copy. And wow, some of the hooks on the non-singles were just absolutely gold; they brought emotion and fun to different aspects that really gave "Benson Boone" while sharing something new. And considering this was released in little time, I'll take it.

BEST – Man In Me
WORST – Momma Song
RATING: 7.5/10

Think the entire album is fantastic, I do agree it’s a little short, wouldn’t be surprised if some bonus tracks get tacked on at some point though.

So many bangers !

This is such an underperformance... less than half his previous one did.

Let's be fair though.

This album has two established hits, Fireworks & Rollerblades had four by the time it was released. One of those was Beautiful Things, which obviously inflates the figure further (it did 9m globally on its own on the day the album came out). It also has five extra songs on its tracklist than American Heart has.

I hope the album can make number 1 this week.

Unlikely! #4 in the midweeks.

As if his album is only number 4 in the midweeks when he’s the only one of the contenders getting hits from their albums
