March 15Mar 15 I can host a synctube listenthrough on Monday evening if that date is OK for everyone. I'm thinking with the BJSC and Bop Idol starting next week, it would be best to sneak it in early before the other contests get going.
March 15Mar 15 There are some original versions that I love here so intrigued to hear how they're reimagined.
March 16Mar 16 Obligatory Pet Shop Boys representation - check Interesting that The Cure and Pulp both get 2 covers here! I know most of the original songs here (which I suppose was the point) but I think I've only heard maybe 2 of the covers already.(happy to go with a listenthrough on Monday also, I'll throw together a YouTube playlist before that if no one else does first x)
March 17Mar 17 I'm going to try and be there to listen along but I'll be busy in the background so may not be able to join in the chat much
March 18Mar 18 Was an interesting listen through last night - my general takeaway was that it is an interesting contest to sit through, I particularly liked the sheer variety of styles and it is going to be very difficult to order these. Whilst nothing struck me as being a bad entry, I suspect the amount of songs that I'm likely to revisit after the contest is pretty low as I don't think many of them touched the original in terms of quality
March 23Mar 23 @Severin Just tried to PM my votes but got a message saying you can't receive messages, not sure if your inbox is full.I agree with Dandy, an interesting concept and a wide variety of covers and genres here, I expected to mostly see indie and rock covers but it's not that at all. But in terms of covers that beat the original, it's probably zero, and that includes my own entry. But many of these songs are so great and classic in the first place that it would have been a tall order. But I've found six or seven covers I will definitely add to my playlist, all very enjoyable in their own way. And it's always interesting to hear fresh takes on songs you know very well. The Groove Armada song came from a Radio 1 covers album from 2007 which I really enjoyed at the time, I very nearly sent Mark Ronson's lovely take on All I Need To Get By to this, which was on that album and has since been added to his album Version on Spotify.
March 23Mar 23 Author @gooddelta Apologies for that. Have cleared a stack of old messages so should go through this time
