March 19, 20251 yr Author Kendrick Lamar Claims Career-Best Fourth Week Atop Hot 100 With ‘Luther’By Gary Trust | 3/17/2025Lamar's "Not Like Us" and "Like That" each led for three weeks. Meanwhile, "Luther" co-lead SZA extends her longest reign. Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” tops the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart for a fourth week. Three weeks earlier, the single – whose title is an tribute to late R&B icon Luther Vandross, who is sampled on the track – became Lamar’s sixth No. 1 and SZA’s third.Lamar rewrites his longest Hot 100 domination. He previously reigned for three nonconsecutive weeks with “Not Like Us” between last May and this February, and for three weeks in a row last April with “Like That,” with Future and Metro Boomin. (His other No. 1s led for a week each: “Squabble Up,” in December; “Humble.,” in 2017; and Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood,” on which he’s featured, in 2015.)SZA extends her longest No. 1 Hot 100 stay. She previously topped the chart for a week each as featured on Drake’s “Slime You Out” and with her own “Kill Bill,” both in 2023.Plus, Lamar logs three songs in the Hot 100’s top five for a sixth week, as “Not Like Us” holds at No. 3 and “TV Off,” featuring Lefty Gunplay, dips 4-5. He ties Drake for the most weeks tripling up in the top five among soloists all-time; overall, only The Beatles have more (eight).“Luther,” on pgLang/Interscope/ICLG, totaled 55.6 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 3% week-over-week), 31.3 million official streams (down 9%) and 3,000 sold (down 24%) in the U.S. March 7-13.The track adds a fourth week at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart; rises 3-2 for a new high on Radio Songs; and falls 8-17, after reaching No. 4, on Digital Song Sales.“Luther” is No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Adult R&B Airplay charts for a third week each. It became the first song ever to rule both Adult R&B Airplay and Rap Airplay, and has also hit No. 1 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Rhythmic Airplay. Meanwhile, it ascends to the top 10 (11-8) on the latest Pop Airplay chart; SZA adds her seventh top 10 at the format and Lamar, his fifth – and first since “Pray for Me,” with The Weeknd, reached No. 3 in 2018.“Luther” concurrently collects a 12th week at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts, which use the same methodology as the Hot 100. The song became Lamar’s seventh No. 1 on each genre chart and SZA’s fourth and first on the respective lists.Below “Luther,” Lamar lands two other songs in the Hot 100’s top five: “Not Like Us,” which holds at No. 3, and “TV Off,” featuring Lefty Gunplay, down 4-5 after reaching No. 2.Lamar adds his sixth week with at least three songs in the Hot 100’s top five simultaneously, after he first scored such a triple in December. He ties Drake for the most such frames among soloists, with The Beatles the only act with more. Here’s a recap of all acts who have achieved the feat for at least one week in the chart’s 66-year history. Most Weeks With 3 or More Songs in Hot 100’s Top 5:8 weeks, The Beatles, in 19646, Kendrick Lamar, 2024-256, Drake, 2018-235, Justin Bieber, 2015-163, Taylor Swift, 2022-242, 50 Cent, 20052, Sabrina Carpenter, 20241, 21 Savage, 20221, Ariana Grande, 2019(Swift – twice – Lamar, Drake and The Beatles are the only acts ever to monopolize the entire top five on the Hot 100 in a single week. Swift scored the most songs from No. 1 on down –14– on the May 4, 2024, chart, thanks to the arrival of her album The Tortured Poets Department.)Elsewhere in the Hot 100’s top 10, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” keeps at No. 2, following five nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning in January. It notches a sixth week atop Radio Songs (62.9 million, down 3%).Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” rises 5-4 on the Hot 100, following its record-tying 19 weeks at No. 1 beginning last July. It commands the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart for a 38th week.ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT.” repeats at No. 6 on the Hot 100, after hitting No. 3; Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” trots 8-7 for a new best; and Drake’s “Nokia” also pushes 10-8 for a new high.Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” dips 7-9 on the Hot 100, after reaching No. 2. It tops the multimetric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts for a 32nd week each.Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which led the list for a week in March 2024 – and became the year’s No. 1 song– slips 9-10. It notches an 82nd week on the survey overall, the fourth-longest stay in the chart’s archives, below only Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” (91 weeks, in 2021-22); The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” (90 weeks, 2019-22); and Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” (87 weeks, 2012-14).
March 19, 20251 yr US HOT 100 SUMMARY AND REVIEW 18.03.25 #24 THE TOP TEN: Teddy drops to ten with 'Lose Control' as Billie Eilish drops to 9 with 'Birds Of A Feather.' Drake is reaching a new peak of 8 with 'Nokia', and Chappell is reaching a new peak of 7 with 'Pink Pony Club.' ROSÉ and Bruno Mars stay at 6 with 'APT.' And Kendrick drops to 5 with 'TV Off.' Slowly climbing back is 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' at 4, which is just below 'Not Like Us' at 3. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars 'Die With A Smile' is still at 2 and taking number one for its fourth consecutive week, whilst spending its 16th week in the chart is 'Luther' by Kendrick Lamar and SZA. NEW ENTRIES: 100. Te Queria Ver – Aleman/Neton Vega (5/10) This song is just brainrot. It talks about Insta, Aura, Baby Girl and just the classic rap activities, but instead it's a Spanish pop song that has a funky changing beat along a drum loop that sounds different from something that Neton would usually do, but it's still easy to make and just sounds minimal effort and boring. Wasn't expecting something good from Neton anyway. 97. Texas – Blake Shelton (4/10) Country-pop goes wrong a lot of the time, and this is an example of just that happening again. The song is about Blake's girl who has run away, and she's probably gone to Texas, but the way it's sung and how cheaply it sounds, it ends up sounding like something that would get played in Chuck E. Cheese. That's what makes me think this is a throwaway song; either way, there's no way of this becoming a hit. 95. Lovedr*g – Lady Gaga (6/10) This was a step down. As much as this had quality, it felt like a huge letdown for the next song and really dropped the phrase "dance or die." In fact, I feel like this could be a lead-up to a slower pace, seeing that the last song on the album is "Die With A Smile." 93. Killah – Lady Gaga/Gesaffellstein (7.9/10) Can't knock this either because it's a well-made song. It brings a retro feeling that sounds like it would fit a 70s bar scene, with the backing screams and rock; it really sounds like Gaga switched things up while keeping her all-loved pop style. I wasn't expecting her to deliver something like this, but if you like those old guitar plucks and are one for the 70s-sounding rock, then this is for you! 87. Proud Of Me – Fridayy/Meek Mill (1.9/10) If you put the vocals rougher, it's almost a replica of a Tom Macdonald song. Also scrap this; I don't care if it's full-blown emotional; it's full-blown rap crap. The vocals showcase zero talent and are straight-up autotuned talking; this feels more like a vent than a song because everything here is just cheaply made and stuck onto the song. 85. Zombieboy – Lady Gaga (8.2/10) This is real dance music; it sounds like something off of Tension II but instead with more glamour. Just like the previous songs, this sounds like it has serious potential to be a lead single with its coating of old-style production but still sounding like it can be a hit today; it sounds fit for any era in the charts. Dance or die! 83. Like JENNIE – JENNIE (8/10) And this comes as the second single. I really liked this from this album! Wow, I really think this should've been a main single! It's got an incredible dance routine as well. It has that constant pattern and fast ups and downs that make it like an action movie and keeps you hooked; Jennie's vocals are on point and fit in well with the constant pulse of the song. Give this a try! 81. Perfect Celebrity – Lady Gaga (9/10) This is the first song from the album I've heard when actually sitting down to hear the whole thing, and WOWZERS!! GAGA IS GOING ALL KILLER NO FILLER WITH THIS!! We got a rock-pop powerhouse that sounds like Disease but even better; her vocals have that extraordinary passion for the MAYHEM era, which I love to see. Gaga isn't playing any games with this one! Easily the best thing I've heard from her! 80. Handlebars – JENNIE/Dua Lipa (5.5/10) This song doesn't bring out complete, utter nonsense, but it sure is boring. I've now heard multiple songs that are main singles from JENNIE'S new album, and they all don't really deserve any hype. In fact, this song is the best one yet; without Dua's verse, the score would drop, though. The interesting noises in production were also one of the only reasons why I spared it with this score. After these performances from her and the lack of interest that sounds like it's going to be in the album, the only thing pulling me in is the wide range of features on the project. Disappointing. 69. How Bad Do U Want Me – Lady Gaga (7/10) Ok, so we're leaning into a sound that fits Taylor Swift, with the lyrics and vocals matching her. I wouldn't be surprised if this was inspired by her. And as I predicted, we are losing "dance or die" a lot more because this more feels like a song to sit and relate to rather than going all out dancing; it builds more of a sound that's like a strong, lead Taylor Swift song. 66. Sweet Dreams – J-Hope/Miguel (7/10) I thought this was going to be interesting, and I was right; it's giving something that would've fit on Mac Miller's 'Balloonerism' as a good track. Miguel is very much capable of making something memorable, but when I saw J. Hope, I was questioning how this would sound. It turns out Miguel ruled most of the production elements, which I thought was a very good choice, and J. Hope did a great vocal job. A pleasant surprise! 61. Vanish Into You – Lady Gaga (9/10) DON'T YOU DARE BASH THIS!! THIS IS PEAK!! THIS IS FROM THE ICON. FROM THE MOMENT. OOOONA NA NAAAAA. OK, I'm going to calm down now and act serious because I'm getting a little too excited. Gaga delivers a pop song that's easy to understand but still hits hard with its radio-friendly hook and signature style. This feels like a great song to sum up Gaga, the powerful vocal holds, and the constant beat pulse that keeps you amazed throughout the whole song. You have to hear this! 52. Garden Of Eden – Lady Gaga (7.8/10) Now that the Gaga album is out, we are left with the promoted single 'Garden Of Eden,' which is a good choice to put at the start of the album. It's fun; it makes you want to dance, and just like 'Abracadabra,' it's a rollercoaster of a party, which I truly believe has the power to get picked up by radio or even take Gaga to number one, and we need a hit single with staying power because right now 2025 has just been songs recycled from 2024. I'll be looking forward to hearing the full album 'Mayhem,' and this song is making me look forward to it even more! 13. Anxiety – Doechii (8/10) And now the famous segment we all know and love is in a song, and Doechii nailed this too! The rest of the song kept the same level of sound, which I really enjoyed, and her vocals were soft and smooth, which was relaxing despite what she was rapping about. In the end, Anxiety sounds like it could be going places; social media should really pick this up! RE ENTRIES: 99. ExtraL – JENNIE/Doechii [Boo!] 71. Disease – Lady Gaga [My view on it slightly improved.] NOTEABLE CHANGES: Songs that fell 10 spots or more: 96. Voy A Llevarte Pa PR – Bad Bunny (Down 10) 94.
