Agreed. Of course, I'm biased, but there aren't many bands in the World who could cram that much quality into 80 mins! Actually, there aren't ANY bands.

I think the same. :P All those tracks they're playing are great tracks and tracks such as Mardy Bum and A Certain Romance will get great receptions no doubt even thought they weren't released as singles.

The Monkeys are actually perfect to headline Glasto. You know for a fact they will be tight as the proverbial, there will be a mass singalong during many songs in the set and even the people who claim not to like them will probably grudgingly have a great time, lol.

That's exactly the way I look at it too. I mean people can argue that they've not that much material, but they do. All the B-sides and everything are well known amongst fans and I think they'll be pretty big at Glasto, well I hope at least!

On Radio1 today they did a small interview with Jo Whiley and then played Only One Who Knows and The Bakery, which both were brilliant! :D

They're doing a suprise cover in their set tonight apparantley as well...:o

Yep I don't think it will be Love Machine either, or You Know I'm No Good.

I think it'll be a well known track though that quite a lot of people at Glasto will know, problem is I don't have a clue what they might perform! Guess we'll just have to wait and find out. ^_^

Mr Rascal may just make an appearance tonight.

Now that would be excellent!!! :o Especially since it'd be a huge suprise to the audience watching them because they don't have a clue Dizzee might be performing with them. ^_^

Well I thought that set was AMAZING. They were so gracious with everything and seemed to have having such a good time! They were there because they wanted to be and not because of the money! ^_^

Shirley Bassey as well! Who'd have thought it? And Dizzee coming out for Temptation too! :cheer:

It really goes to show just how popular they are as well, when you've got the crowd singing the lyrics to a non-single a la Mardy Bum!

They were absolutely amazing. They were extraordinarily confident (without appearing arrogant) for a band who are so young. I knew they were going to do a cover version but I never guessed that it would be a Shirley Bassey cover

Less than two weeks before I see them in Lille - I can't wait :yahoo:

I know exactly what you mean; for most bands it would faze them and they'd be really nervous, but the Arctic Monkeys showed no signs of nerves whatsoever, even when Jo Whiley interviewed them earlier they were just joking about and not getting the slightest bit nervous. I thought their set was great though, they played all the right songs and kept the crowd entertained. Hopefully they'll be back again next year, or the year after possibly! ^_^

Or many years to come. If they can avoid "Oasis syndrome" ( two great albums followed by a succession of mediocre albums), they could end up as one of the all-time greats. At the moment, I'm still hopeful.

Arctic Monkeys in Glastonbury triumph

Alex Turner and co play a special cover during headline slot

Arctic Monkeys have headlined the Glastonbury Festival tonight (June 22).

Playing their biggest ever British show Alex Turner, Matt Helders, Jamie Cook and Nick O'Malley bounded onstage just after 11pm.

"Hello everybody," chirped frontman Turner before launching into opener - and immediate singalong - 'The Sun Goes Down'.

Clearly enjoying themselves, Turner then told the audience after three songs, "This is terrific, I think".

The singer added the band were celebrating twice, both headlining and no longer being Glastonbury virgins.

"Never been to Glastonbury, us four," explained Turner for his bandmates. "So it's a double celebration!"

Bantering with the crowd throughout the set, Turner deadicated 'Fake Tales Of San Francisco' to a fan who was waving a Norwegian flag, one of the many banners on display show in front of the Pyramid Stage.

"This one is for the gentlemen I'm pointing at, The Viking" said the singer, then spotting a Jolly Roger he added, "and the pirate!"

The band then gave the live debut to 'Brianstorm' b-side 'Temptation Greets You Like A Naughty Friend'.

"We never played this live before, it's a Glastonbury speical not that Glastonbury isn't special already," declared Turner as his band were joined by rapper Dizzee Rascal who reprised his role on the record to deliever a stinging verse.

With the sound on the Pyramid Stage sounding noticibly quiet, large number of fans screamed out for the volume to be raised during the gig, briefly scaring the band that they were unhappy with the set.

"What are you saying 'louder'?" asked Turner. " I can't tell if they're happy or angry," said Turner. "Thumbs up for the man at the front."

With a sea of thumbs raised in front of the stage, it was clear the crowd were unhappy with the volume and not the band, cheering their singer to deadicate new single 'Flourescent Adolescent' to a fan who made an Arctic Monkeys flag and "those blokes there in the gorilla suits".

'Do Me A Favour' and 'Leave Before The Lights Come On' also saw the audience repeat their approval, joining in with loud sing-a-longs.

Indeed such was their applause for the latter, Turner didn't even bother with the song's coda saying, "you liked that? Well ok, we're just going to bring on an organ and then we'll come back and play some more."

The band then returned for their encore with a thunderous version of 'View From The Afternoon'.

Arctic Monkeys then sprung another surprise on the crowd.

"We liked to play a cover for you, like we said it only happens once, so we want to do something special for you, we're thrilled to be here," explained Turner of the next song which saw producer and Simian Mobile Disco member James Ford join them on the aforementioned organ.

"Shirley Bassey is playing on Sunday, so this one is for Shirle," added the singer as his band launched into her Bond theme 'Diamonds Are Forever'.

Turner then took over the keys himself for second album closer '505'.

Returning the crowd's earlier thumbs up the band thanked the crowd before playing closer 'A Certain Romance'.

Yep that was fun. ^_^ Was good just commenting on the tracks they were playing and their reactions and the crowd reactions. Can't believe my total guesses of what they'd play next as well payed off! Well aside from the Mardy Bum and Do Me A Favour thing, as I already kind of knew they'd do that.

Here's an interview from Dizzee too:

Rapper tells NME.COM 'it's the first time we've ever played together'

Dizzee Rascal has spoken to NME.COM following his collaboration with Arctic Monkeys at Glastonbury last night (June 22).

The singer joined the band midway through their Pyramid Stage set to rap on 'Temptation Greets You Like A Naughty Friend', the 'Brianstorm' B-side he appeared on earlier this year.

Speaking to us, the rapper explained it was not only the first time the band had played the track live, it was the first time ever they had performed the song together after it was put together separately in the studio.

"It was the first time we've done it live, we didn't rehearse, we just went on and did it. We'd never performed it before that moment," explained Dizzee Rascal. "It's musical genius, man! They did what they do, I do what I do, but when we work together it's basically a beautiful picture."
