May 30May 30 Telos - Zedd - Mellope Album Review (AKA Part two of the 3,000 review special) For anyone who isn't aware I posted a 3,000 review special where the first comment gets to decide the information of what my next review will be (including what I'll listen to, the length of my review and where I'll listen) and the person who picked was @ACriticalxcxfan who gave me Zedd's "Telos" and said I should listen on a walk and my review should be as long as my review on Lady Gaga's "MAYHEM" (Which was a track by track review of 14 tracks and a overview- which is pretty long) surely this part counts as a big segment so what I'll do is, I'll track by track review the albums 12 songs and give an overview and ontop of this explanation it's going to be around the length of that review. I haven't done a track by track review in a while so here goes nothing! (This time I'll start with the track by track review and give the overview at the end.) TRACK BY TRACK REVIEW: 1. Out Of Time (Ft. Bea Miller) (8/10) The song starts to a slower and chilled pace but then a electronic beat kicks in and Bea delivers vocals that hold up extremely well on a sound that reminds me of Linkin Park but without there rock and metal. It's powerful and leaves a good aftertaste and hope for what's to come. 2. Tangerine Ray's (Ft. Bea Miller & Ellis) (8.1/10) Putting Bea on the second song aswell as the first felt like a good move, and she totally ate this up. This song moved the albums more heavy pitched tone into a more funky electronic one with synth basses and those same lead female vocals that match the songs character spot on. 3. Shanti (Ft. Grey) (7/10) I'll give credit where necessary, the beat sounds like Chase & Status made it but with a less drill and more electronic twist that blends sounds that make me think of the bollywood industry, and it's actually a nicely intense sound. The vocals aren't the best to tell out but I think the effort made here was more focused on the background. 4. No Gravity (Ft. Bava) (5.8/10) Very pop-radio formulated and sounds on the basic level of Marshmello or any mediocre DJ looking for a quick album filler or cheap tune. 5. Sona (Ft. Ollium) (5/10) This sounds like background music you'd hear on a video game menu/loading screen, or background music a youtuber in 2015 would use. This album is taking a bad generic turn and I just gotta hope that Zedd picks up his performance. 6. Lucky (Ft. Remi Wolf) (6.5/10) Its a short and simple song where tuning and pitch changed Is noticeably used on the word "Lucky" and repeated to get this one little thing stuck on you're head. It's not bad but I don't like how it feels to formulated and like a quick pop cash grab. Despite that it's fun though. 7. Dream Brother (Ft. Jeff Buckley) (6.9/10) This song felt much less like the last song and was an unexpected move. It's nearly 5 minutes in length and starts with a magically slightly uniquely crafted sound but gets to repetitive as the track finishes. I don't really know how to describe the beat I heard, it's not like it's the most far from basic thing ever (In some ways it's kinda basic despite being unique.. I know that may sound weird) but it's just a continued loop of something that I don't really know how to go about talking about. (Just found out it's apparently a remix...?) 8. Decensus (Ft. Dora Jar) (6.4/10) Sounds like Alan Walker would've produced this, the female voice thats soft and the electro beat kick in that constantly is a pounding force in the song. Just sounds a little to quickly made and a straight Club choice track. 9. Automatic Yes (Ft. John Mayer) (5/10) I zoned out and completely forgot about any material in the song.. lemme relisten.. *Relistens* sounds like a even more forgettable version of Craig David a Galantas song "DNA" It's too light and dull to make any real lasting impression on me. 10. 1685 (Ft. Muse) (7.8/10) What in the spa relaxation session is this?! Powerful vocals with structured hit high notes in a classical crossover with pop that transforms into the second half of the song being a beautiful and peaceful melody that makes you want to sleep. Love this ending! OVERVIEW: Tracks start to feel clammed together at random instead of telling and full story, so listening in order doesn't feel like it matters as the album doesn't feel like it has a clear story which requires a listen from track 1 to track 10 strictly. Sure, Zedd said they tell a story but it feels vague and the album doesn't tell that well. I think that on this album the highlights are my high scores, aka the production values. on this album the beat and mastering is often more valuable then the lyrics. If I listened to this again I'd pick out certain songs rather then listening to the full thing as the album definitely has dips in quality and falls flat for quite a few songs. BEST - Tangerine Ray's WORST - Sona FINAL RATING - 6.2/10
