Birmingham City are in talks to sign Ajax striker Chuba Akpom.

It’s understood Birmingham are seeking a season-long loan deal, with an obligation to buy if the club are promoted to the Premier League.

Akpom, 29, has scored 23 goals in 71 games for Ajax and spent the second half of last season on loan at Lille, where he netted three times in 16 appearances.

Sturm Graz have rejected a second bid of £1.6m from Derby County for right-back Max Johnston.

Sky Sports News revealed last week that Derby’s opening bid of £1.4m was knocked back by the Austrian champions - and it’s understood an improved bid of £1.6m has been turned down this weekend.

Derby are keen to sign the Scotland international, but face stiff competition from other clubs in England and across Europe.

Johnston has two years left on his contract.

Sheffield Wednesday's players have not ruled out going on strike as the uncertainty at the club continues.

The Championship side have endured a torrid off-season, with players and staff seeing their wages delayed in May, June and July.

Over the summer the club have been handed a number of registration embargoes, boss Danny Rohl has left by mutual consent, the North Stand has been closed by the council amid concerns over its structural integrity and owner Dejphon Chansiri is looking to sell - although no progress has been made with any potential buyers.

Ipswich Town have agreed a deal with Napoli to sign midfielder Jens Cajuste.

The deal is a loan with an obligation to buy IF Ipswich are promoted.

Cajuste is in the UK and is expected to have a medical tomorrow.

Wrexham have signed Kieffer Moore from Sheffield United for an on a three-year deal.

Sky Sports News reported last week that the move is in the region of £2m.

The 32-year-old striker has made 200 appearances in the Championship and is a two-time promotion winner with Bournemouth and Ipswich Town.

Both Birmingham and Wrexham are just promoted from L1 but have the spending power of the sides relegated from the premiership last season. Birmingham battling it out with Ipswich for Akpron the prime example!

Ipswich have confirmed the loan signing of Jens Cajuste from Napoli.

The deal includes an obligation to buy if the club are promoted back to the Premier League this season. 

Cajuste spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Portman Road, where he made 33 appearances for the club.

Harvey Knibbs' stoppage-time goal gave Charlton a deserved 1-0 win over Watford as the Addicks marked their return to the Championship with a victory.

The signing from Reading last week fired in from close range after a corner was headed into his path to send The Valley into raptures as Watford, under new boss Paulo Pezzolano, struggled to create many clear-cut chances.

Sassuolo are in talks with Ipswich over the signing of goalkeeper Arijanet Muric. 

It is understood the deal under discussion is a loan with an option to buy.

The 26-year-old has lost his place as Ipswich's first-choice keeper to Alex Palmer who joined in the winter window.

Sassuolo are willing to pay for the loan and include a purchase option in the region of £8.6m (€10m).

The two clubs have agreed a deal worth £11.2m (€13m).

Watford have agreed a deal to sign former Lens defensive midfielder Nampalys Mendy.

The Senegal international, 33, is due to arrive in England for a medical tomorrow.

Once completed, he is expected to finalise the paperwork on a one-year deal, with Watford holding the option to extend by a further year.
