Thursday at 15:335 days Author 23 1 15 SCREAMLAND - Father John Misty 656850I'm in favour of pop stars named John - well I would be wouldn't I, says John - and this is the second Father John Misty track to make my top 100 - the previous one was a lovely 1940's-styled song for actually-named Joshua Tillman former Fleet Foxes member, Funny Girl. Screamland is an epic single in the sense that it's almost 7 minutes long and takes you on a folk-rock journey with strings and distorted vocals and a wide-screen movie vibe to it. It's fab.

The hook is irresistible and she'll be around for years dropping good stuff.
Thursday at 15:435 days Author 21 5 32 ESPRESSO - Sabrina Carpenter 741300Sabrina's summer anthem of 2024, this one's going to be remembered decades from now, a joyous-sounding laid back pop vibe with biting lyrics and a great video, driving Sabrina from an occasional chart visitor to the pop star of 2024, it's not close and radio was buzzing with her various chart-toppers which banged out in a rapid hat-trick. The second and final of her hits, t'others fell short of the 100. For 2024 at least. 2025 will have others, as with Chappell Roan.

5 hours ago5 hr Author 19 4 34 BIRDS OF A FEATHER - Billie Eilish 756650Only peaked at 4 in my chart but hung around for most of the year cos it's just fabulous. Achingly low-key and beautifully sad-happy, and this video came out late in the chart run as it turned into a hit from the album from day one, as opposed to an advance single. One of her greatest records (although credit should include Bruv Finneas Eilish as a main creator/co-creator). What an absolute gem and radio-friendly in a way some of her singles aren't.
5 hours ago5 hr Author 18 1 18 DANCING STAR - Pet Shop Boys 7692002nd single off the new album, and typically unusual subject matter as they write about Rudolph Nureyev's escape from the USSR during a ballet tour in the 60's, which gives it a sort of 60's nostalgia mixed with mid-80's Pet Shop Boys production nostalgia, enough for them to grab the top slot on my charts until the album dropped a week or two later, Nonetheless.
5 hours ago5 hr Author 17 1 17 BURNING IN FLAMES - Kaiser Chiefs 839900The new album Kaiser Chief's Easy 8th Album had a number of great singles on it, as Kaiser Chiefs turned out the best crop of tracks since their 2000's heyday when they could do no wrong. The 4th of 5 singles and they still struggled to get noticed bar the odd Radio 2 play, annoyingly, as this may well have been a hit in, say, 2006 or thereabouts. Poprock is SO passe to modern ears.

Alana is actually part of the band, but I like to give credit for a nice vocal and this chugs along nicely. Play loud and dream of finding a club that would play it like it was 2011, when Promises topped the charts.
5 hours ago5 hr Author 15 1 25 HOLD ON HOPE - Glen Campbell & Eric Church 1021100Glen Campbell's final 2011 album got the duets treatment a few years after he passed away battling Alzheimer's for years, and in some cases it shined a spotlight on tracks that slipped by like this one with contemporary Country star Eric Church. Hold On Hope was optimistically sad and like much of the album sort of related to Glen's condition. I find it very moving and Eric added a new pathos to it. Glen first made my year-end top 100 in 1969 with 2 tracks. And in 1970. And still in the 2000's and 2010's.
