I really miss emotive epic synth dance like this making the charts; it was last popular in 2012-13.

Outside of the top 40 and these are the state of the acts:

Pet Shop Boys - 5 tracks (no surprise there then!)

David Guetta - 4

Dua Lipa - 2

Good Neighbours - 2

PNAU/Empire Of The Sun - 2

Purple Disco Machine - 2

Place your bets who's going to come out on top after the top 40 (it's a cert, though!)

39 7 18 WAITING FOR THE CATCH - Shed Seven featuring Issy Ferris 449500

In which Shed 7 drop their best record since Going For Gold and Chasing Rainbows in 1996 - and it wasn't even a single.

38 5 14 DARK DAYS - Moby & Lady Blackbird 450950

In which Moby drops his best new track since Extreme Ways and it wasn't even a single, but Lady Blackbird makes it a 4th year-end Top 100 listing in the 2020's.

37 4 13 BAD WOMAN - Paloma Faith 463050

Paloma's 2nd 2024 top 100 track. Still got it over 15 years on.

36 2 11 SPITFIRE - WE ARE ONE 464150

A rousing cowboy romp, and that's good enough for me. Nice horns. Avoid official video.

35 7 18 BABY WHEN YOU GO - Girls Aloud 486400

20-odd years old, but never been in the spotlight before, so it counts for 2024. It's sweet and sad.

34 7 23 FOREVER - Loreen 488650

Loreen's 4th year-ender in over a decade, 2 of 'em not even Eurovision entries, including this one...though she did sing it at Eurovision.

33 6 18 IT’S NOT A CRIME - Pet Shop Boys 493300

Ever-generous, a mere bonus track off the A New Bohemia single, could easily have been on the album, and it's beats 2 of the official singles off the album, including, cough, the A side. 6th PSB track on the list.

32 4 13 LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION - Kylie Minogue 493350

Kylie's 3rd on the list, all top 50. She's been doing that since the 80's. She's 57 and a marvel. Somehow an OBE doesn't seem enough....

31 4 17 HIGHER - Tom Grennan 499850

Tom's had previous (collabs) do better, but just outside the top 30 is still pretty good. The chorus is the main hook.

30 10 32 DIE WITH A SMILE - Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars 503950

only peaked at 10 but hung around for 8 months on my charts, a proper grower, love it. A great return from both acts after a lengthy chunk of time outside the year-end top 40's. Reminds me of Florida, the most-played track on radio there in October.

29 4 19 BARCELONA - Alan Walker & Ina Wroldsen 513450

The best song with Barcelona in it's title to date, and I was there in September and next month again. Alan Walker has been year-ending top 100 for a decade or so, all but one not charting in the UK, but he's consistently good.

28 2 17 EVIL WOMAN - Duran Duran 545800

Well this was a great idea - Duran cover ELO for Halloween, to give their Danse Macabre 2023 album a boost with extra tracks, which should have been a Halloween monster hit and wasn't. Essentially a covers album, including their own New Moon On Monday, but also new stuff like Danse Macabre, it ensures they make the year-end top 100 for 2 years in a row, Evil Woman keeping the mood of the ELO original which was a huge chart-topper for me in 1976. Best Halloween album ever, barring compilations.

27 3 13 OH NO :: HE SAID WHAT? - Nothing But Thieves 546850

A debut in the top 100 for Nothing Like Thieves on this funky indie throbbing track, they sound committed to the mood and it's fab and upper register falsetto effective. Love it. Love that instrumental guitar break. The sort of exciting track that should be a hit but never is in the 2020's.

Good summer song but I know a better Barcelona one from 2003!

26 2 14 RIDE - Mia Rodriguez 562850

Here's another debut, and another exciting flop, a sort of yee-ha dance track with Bollywood synths and backing vocals. Great! If Chappell Roan can break through to the big time I don't see why this one can't!

25 8 23 HUMAN - Lenny Kravitz 571500

Welcome back Lenny! This very 80's-sounding track is fabulous, literally his best new track since the 90's, it's frustrating when veteran acts can't get a look-in when they do a return to form, in the streaming world of today - younger folk dont search out 20th century acts and older folk have lost touch busy streaming same old same old hits.

That's one I dont know, but it's good - certainly better than Freddie & Monserrat, and George Ezra, and I quite like those ones too. Thanks for the tip!
