In other news, my iTunes review for Now 124 is finally live and has dragged the average rating up from 1 to 2.5 stars. Anyone with an iTunes account, do feel free to add your own reviews if you feel it is worth more than 1 (which objectively it is if you compare the tracklist to the charts and what they had at their disposal to include), and let's try and keep this series going, at least until the Yearbooks are done!

I saw your review, and I do get some of your points. And sure, there are some dance tracks on there along with some dance-pop, but that's about it. So I guess it's NOT lacking?

Even so, I would say 1 is harsh when it's an improvement on the last release, aside from perhaps a few missing dance songs they may not have had any control over. I know people hand out 1-star reviews to make a point when they're unhappy, most people leave either 1 or 5-star reviews on restaurants for example, and that's fair enough if you truly hate something, but this while it has some bad spots is by no means a 1. We could have had 40 fillers and no hits, for example. But we got two No.1s by major stars and a lot of nice songs on Disc 1 especially.

There aren't enough casual consumers reviewing these albums on iTunes anymore to offer balance, so we just end up with every new Now release getting a terrible average score. This really can't help the optics and must be putting people off buying them.

They haven't released many true 1-star albums imo although for lack of imagination the recent Power Ballads spin-off would be (although more for 100% repeated songs from the series and not the quality of the actual songs featured on it).

Yeah, you're right. After what @gooddelta stated recently, I decided to undo my rating and improve it. I feel as though I've gone too far with hating these albums, so sorry about that. I'll just make the best of what there is, eh?

It’s the collectors that will buy the numbered albums regardless of how bad the tracklist is. It’s the casual buyers that won’t touch these albums. The numbered series should cater to both collectors and casual buyers. They should’ve at least included the 2 Eurovision songs like they do on every summer edition. Shame LMNC and Dara both missed out. They should’ve at least included the latter rather than nothing. The reason why the casual spin-offs get bad reviews is because they repeat the same songs that have already been on yearbooks rather than include songs that haven’t been on yearbooks. Also, they should do some casual spin-offs that haven’t been done before. The clubland spin-off last year was 10/10. As for reviews, I was gonna Now 124 3 stars until I saw on the description that they were prioritising the sales and airplay charts and using the singles chart as filler rather than the other way round

That looks very comprehensive tbf, My Sweet Lord is the only missing No.1.

They should’ve made 1971 brown or purple as 1991 is yellow. It’s gonna look odd having two yearbooks with the same colour and same last digit. They should’ve saved the yellow for 1970 or 1975

I doubt anyone will be racking 1971 next to 1991 at home so is fine by me. What are your highlights from the tracklist?

For me there seems to be a lot of strong classics on here, nice to see the UK Eurovision song on here, I guess the winner might be on the Extra as it went top ten in the UK. A good half of the songs I don't know so lots to discover.

Middle Of The Road. Even though Proud Mary wasn’t a hit in 1971, I knew they were gonna include and at least it has all the number ones besides My Sweet Lord which I guessed wouldn’t be appearing. They seem to be ignoring the 5s. With the 70s yearbooks, watch them release 1970 before 1975 and I hope 1995 is the next 90s yearbook we get in October. Also, when you say rack together, they could make 1994 blue then putting 1984 and 1994 together, you’ll have the same colour. Putting all the 1s together, it’s gonna go yellow, red, yellow. If they make 1994 blue and you put all the 4s together, it’s gonna go green, blue, blue

Also interesting to see the two sides of the Rod Stewart single both appearing on the same album. And T-Rex on the main album unlike 1972, I wonder if the licensing for them freed up at some point between the main and Extra 1972 albums, as it seems odd they weren't on the main album for that year.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen George Harrison appear on a compilation full stop. I’m hoping we get T Rex’s other 1972 hits spread across the 1970-1974 yearbooks particularly Children Of The Revolution. With 70s yearbooks, we now have 1 left from each side of the 70s. Another reason they should’ve done 1975 so that they close the gap between 1972 and 1993

There’s two songs that feature in the 1999 film East Is East; The Banner Man and Double Barrel. 1999 preceded 1971 in the yearbooks and East Is East is set in 1971

For me it’s Benny Hill and The Tams. Benny Hill for the sheer novelty and The Tams because I genuinely love ‘Hey Girl Don’t Bother Me’.

Looking forward to this release!
