August 27Aug 27 Haha, that is pretty good to be fair! I definitely don't think I've seen that before, must have been a rare week off TOTP for me.The weird thing about the Shamen is that they pretty much owe their hits to the Beatmasters don't they. The Shamen originals of nearly all the singles were nowhere near as commercial (as I'm sure you'll already know) and the Beatmasters really did just reinvent them into pop music.
August 28Aug 28 Author 7 Tasmin Archer - Sleeping SatelliteHmmm...another case of weaker chorus than verse. The middle 8 and all the organ work are excellent. The lowest selling number 1 of 1992, 16th best seller over all.Colm's score 7.0 Edited August 28Aug 28 by Colm
August 28Aug 28 Author 6 Undercover - Baker Street Surprisingly, this hasn't dated as much as I expected - the bleepy sounds aside. I really like the tone of his voice.Got to number 100 in Australia. :D11th best selling single of 1992Colm's Score 7.2
August 28Aug 28 Oh I really love Sleeping Satellite, it was a lovely surprise seeing it make #1.Less keen on Baker Street, that’s easily the worst so far for me. I don’t even care for the original that much, even though I can see that the sax is really distinctive and well done.
August 29Aug 29 Author I used to love Sleeping Satellite a lot more. Baker's Street is thin on redeeming features, I guess. It could just be nostalgia for me.
August 29Aug 29 7 is still a reasonable score though, I have to remind myself that you don’t use the hyperbolic 11 and 12/10 rating system that most on here use 😂
August 29Aug 29 Sleeping Satellite is fab, very different from what was selling at the time so it was a surprise chart-topper really. Baker Street, well the original is my all-time fave and the single edit is perfect in every way so this cover irritated me a bit at the time though I did chart it top 20 - yes I was glad to see the song reach a new audience, but it had none of the emotion and class of Gerry Rafferty and Undercover got more annoying the more I heard it and their carbon copy follow-ups.

Anything less and I'd probably only listen to if there was a particular reason to listen to it - like in this ranking/rating. Edited August 29Aug 29 by Colm
August 31Aug 31 Author 5 Dr.Alban - It's My LifeStandard early 90s Eurodance.Best selling single in Austria and Switzerland in 1992.18th best seller of 1992 in the UK.Colm's score 7.5 Edited August 31Aug 31 by Colm
August 31Aug 31 Author 4 - Queen - These Are The Days Of Our LivesI've watched this video several times over the last few days. Freddie was magnetic, to the very end. Sad and poignant.15th best seller of 1992Colm's score 7.8 Edited September 1Sep 1 by Colm
September 1Sep 1 It's my life is jolly enough but it was ruined by rollerskating tampon adverts for me, what can I say, my 90's memories of it got over-written! Queen, that video is heart-breaking. I don't watch it for that reason. Poor Freddie, what a star.
September 1Sep 1 I was all set to say that I wasn't particularly keen on those two... and I'm kinda not, but I'm also not disliking them as much as I thought I did. The Dr Alban song was ruined for me by that advert too PCF, but listening now I don't mind it quite as much - still much prefer Ebeneezer Goode though and I'm glad that beat it to #1.The Queen song is actually not at all bad. I've always found Queen to be hugely overrated and struggle to listen to many songs in a row before I find them massively irritating, and I remember not particularly liking this one at the time - but it's actually quite a nice track without much of the histrionics that usually grate on me. A pleasant surprise.
September 2Sep 2 Author Yes. He pitches it just right. Freddie over performed a lot and I can see why people found them irritating. They managed what I consider to be 3 great singles from that album - The Days of our Lives, The Show Must go on and Innuendo. I would not call myself a Queen fan.
September 2Sep 2 I’ve mentioned this before but I was 7 when the double A side single came out and my mum bought it on a cassette with a distinctive all black sleeve. I played it on repeat and at first I was fascinated by “Bohemian Rhapsody”, as you would be hearing it for the first time. But over time I grew to love “These Are The Days…” too.I still think it’s beautiful. And in fact if I had to choose between hearing either of the two tracks right now I’d choose “These Are The Days…”.
September 3Sep 3 Author 3 - SL2 - On A Ragga TipThis was what I expected to be number 1 for 1992. It's still very good but I like it less that I expected. Maybe it's suffered from overplaying. Whatever the reason, it isn't the potential-10-pointer that I envisaged before listening to these 10 songs again. 20th best seller of 1992.Colm's score 7.9
September 4Sep 4 Author 2 - Richard Marx - HazardI always liked this. It had regular airplay on the radio station Atlantic 252 months before a UK release but I never really got bored of it and was delighted with its slow ascent up the charts. It is still subtly powerful. Finished the year as 14th best seller.Colm's score 8.7
September 4Sep 4 Author 1 - Jon Secada - Just Another DayHere it is. The surprise number 1 and 10-pointer. I always loved this but wow - the verses are nearly the equal of the magnificent chorus. His live vocals are wonderful too.So, it appears that a new song has entered my personal top 10 of 1992. 19th best seller of 1992.Colm's core 10.0
September 4Sep 4 SL2 is good, not heard it in years though. Bouncy fun! Both Jon Secada and Richard Marx topped my personal charts of the time, so a big fan of both, but Hazard has the edge, it's such a classic-sounding moody, dark track. Story songs go back to previous eras, but they have become increasingly unpopular in chart terms as time moves on, as most prefer to sing about themselves and feelings instead, so this one stands out.
