Posted Monday at 11:392 days Has anyone seen this yet? It's on Netflix ans ia "making Disney sweat". Well, maybe they shouldn't have cracked down on password sharing and lost all their subscribers...It's about three Kpop princesses, who fight Korean mythological creatures with their music. It's been a huge hit, especially with kids.
Monday at 11:482 days I watched it last night, really enjoyed it with lots of jokes in there for adults. Definitely get the hype!
Monday at 13:331 day This is a great film, I keep seeing chart forum posts saying 'I like the songs but the movie's not my thing' etc. but it's a lot more mature and deeper than you'd expect for a film with a concept like this and the animation, humour and story are all fantastic and can easily be enjoyed by adults as well as teens so don't be put off x and fantastic to see this happening to an original movie in a sea of sequels/remakes.I think my only issues with it were with some of the writing near the end - After the big reveal, I feel we don't really learn enough about the backstory and the demons felt a bit of an afterthought and somewhat unfairly dismissed when I feel they could've had a more inclusive message. I do hope there may be more (much as I hate encouraging more sequels) as it does feel like there's more they can do with the world.
Monday at 13:591 day I watched it on Saturday finally, really very good actually with quite a layered story and great animation, an art style you don't see a lot in mainstream animated film. The success of the soundtrack makes a lot more sense after seeing it.
Monday at 14:291 day This was such a surprising hit for me, the songs were all killer no filler, the story was great, the characters each felt stand out worthy, The comedy timings was great too. The layers of the message of the main character could be interpreted so many ways too. The only slight issue I had was I wish the other two women in the band was giving a bit of more backstory but I suppose they can have more of a focus in a sequel, should they choose to make one. Basically this is a derpy tiger and the magplie stan account now.
Monday at 16:221 day Thought it was very well animated, the songs were great and very pleased to see they have been smashing the charts, and the lead singer had a good character arc throughout. Decent musical animated film on the whole, enjoyable enough. The songs were integrated very well into the plot - strongest part.I did think the whole plot had a few issues. It's very easy to joke about this proving K-Pop boybands are demonic, but, yeah, kinda. The way they were portrayed, in this simpering fangirl-pandering way, made it so hard to care about the development the main boy was getting, as I still hated him. Which leads into the entire K-Pop setting being, well, a fact of life. Obviously it's no secret that the industry has some... issues, and the movie made this obvious that this is still the case with obsessive fans and the groups barely getting any rest or respite. Most pieces of media that deal with idols or fan culture tackle this issue in one of two ways, either they make sure that what they're showing is a positive example of idol culture or they start exploring the darker side and critiquing it. I didn't feel this movie did either, Kpop stanning and culture is a fact of life and a friction for the characters (easier to imagine the end of the world demonic invasion than the end of capitalism Kpop), with all the negatives, and just part of the lives and world of the characters (+ demon hunting), and everyone involved is generally sorta fine with it. Which made all the K-pop scenes feel really awkward for me.The thrust of the story, lead character has to accept herself after coming to terms with her identity, is good, even if it does result in her friends as satellite characters. Certainly don't mind seeing it as a hit and it's great as a musical film, I just have some critiques.
