  • I agree, I’ve never heard it as ciao and wasn’t aware that it’s supposedly that until this week!

The new version sounds wonderful! wub Sooo excited to hear this in full!

Interestingly on Radio 2's system it is tagged as "Singapore (Definitive Version)"

This is so exciting!! New version of 'Singapore' sounding great from that snippet with Sarah getting new solo lines in the first verse!

New version of Singapore! o

OMG I am beyond chuffed to have this new version! "Singapore" is one of my favourite tracks of them and I've always been sad that it's been lost to a bonus disc on The Sound Of... It's part of my favourite Xenomania "trilogy" of songs ("Singapore", "Memory of You", and "I Left My Heart in Tokyo" - thematically they seem to fit together to me), and I'm just thrilled that it's having its own moment to shine after all these years!

You can hear the full version here:

I really do love the new Sarah verse! Not sure on Kimberley's towards the end, I think what I love about the original is the way it flows along as a consistent level and this verse disrupts that. Hopefully both versions of the song are included in the reissuse.

This new version is wrong on so many levels! Like Liam said. the original flows so consistently and beautifully and this is all over the place.

The original captures that melancholic feeling of doing mundane things to pass the time waiting for somebody to come home, this replaces it with lyrics that don't even make sense. And Cheryl's bit is dire!

I suppose the one saving grace is that brilliant chorus remains intact.

This is bang on the money!

Girls Aloud ❤️

Personally I wouldn't say that this section from the original made all that much sense in context either:

Please means more
I'll see you knocking at the door
Got it right in my place
'Cause dreams means five
And I'll be rocking on the floor
Can't you see it in my face?

I think if this was the first version of the song we heard, we wouldn’t think anything about the differences. I don’t think this version is bad at all, I just think the original is pitch perfect.

If the original could squeeze Sarah’s verse in, that would be my ideal version. It’s fits the light carefree tone of the song and Sarah’s vocal compliments Nadine’s in the chorus so well.

Makes no sense at all, in context or not!

I'm liking the Definitive Version of Singapore, glad it's getting a moment to shine, it's such a good song.

I'm loving the new Singapore, Sarah's part is gorgeous (and I actually like the vibe of Cheryl's and Kimberley's sections). I would say I prefer the original but that's 19 years of familiarity vs. a few days. I'm very intrigued by the Jon Shave 2025 mix, looking forward to hearing that! This re-release kind of centering around Singapore... its impact! cheeseblock

Absolutely obsessed with this, having not heard the original, I compared and to me the new one is by far superior. What I’m not getting is how people are hearing “breaks me… ciao, I’m waiting for your call.” I know Xenomania are known for unusual lyrics, but to me it’s definitely “God it nearly breaks each hour… I’m waiting for your call.” Makes so much more sense. Anyway… bop.

I agree, I’ve never heard it as ciao and wasn’t aware that it’s supposedly that until this week! lol
