The most surprising #1 track in a long time, and the first time I've ever charted her at the top (if it existed in 2009 Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer would have probably done it though), Sophie Ellis-Bextor climbs to the summit with Vertigo, months after everyone else has worn the track out. In another strange turn of events, but assisted by the influx of strong new albums over the last few weeks, Kesha's Boy Crazy finally drops from the top all the way down to #15. The song is on track to be my #1 of 2025 overall though, 3/4 of the way through the year.

The first of Girls Aloud's back-to-back pair of near-perfect albums would have been the default #1 for this week at least, regardless of stream counts, as per my rule of going to the top slot during purchase week if bought. It is the most streamed of the 4-week tracking period despite being out for just a week anyway, partially due to a weak fortnight of streams of eligible material to start the tracking period.

What a moment for Sophie! “Vertigo” hitting #1 after that steady climb is so satisfying — queen of the slow burn! Also loving that huge jump for Rihanna — “Friend Of Mine” is a vibe, glad to see it getting the shine it deserves. And curious about this JADE debut at #19… FUFN already sounds iconic 👀 Solid chart this week, Tim — always full of surprises!

I did not expect vertigo to hit #1 for you but that's a great result. It was definitely her best since hypnotized.

A shame that unconditional hasn't done too well but at least FUFN is here to pick up the slack 😄
