For sure it was the worst year of the decade for No.1s, but away from the top spot it was a pretty good one. I feel like it's one of those years where many classics missed the top spot sadly.

Left Outside Alone, Mr Brightside, Take Me Out, Somewhere Only We Know, Milkshake, Unwritten, Lose My Breath, In The Shadows, If There's Any Justice, This Love, Flashdance, Leave (Get Out), Love Machine, The Show, Your Game, American Idiot, I Believe In You, What You Waiting For, Too Lost In You, My Happy Ending, Numb/Encore...just off the top of my head.

On a personal level What You're Made Of, Out Of The Blue, You Won't Forget About Me, Is It Cos I'm Cool, and Summer Sunshine all made the top ten too <3

What a year it could have been if the public weren't buying crap in great quantities!

1 Britney Spears - Toxic (1 week - 13th March) 10/10 1 week on top is outrageous for record of the year, chart-topper or non-chart-topper. Britney's best by a pop mile, and a classic, exciting danc

  • Well I don't like to boast about these things. It was just a quick side project while I was setting up my women's high street fashion chain!

  • Sorry for giving you this year John - it really is pretty poor haha. But I agree poor “5 Colours In Her Hair” should be trouncing most of these. “Call On Me” I probably would have had higher just bec

I've mentioned before that this was an unusually strong period for #3 peaking hits, and indeed that includes most of the first few you highlighted - plus perhaps 'Dragostea Din Tei' amongst others, while 'Hey Ya!' reached the same peak that year, and 'Somebody Told Me' was The Killers' debut hit on its 2004 release!

For me 2004 is the year between two fantastic eras - best UK charts (1999-2003) and Lithuanian girl groups supreme power (2005-2010),

Mango released their best album "Raskila", possibly the best non-YVA Lithuanian album.

My SotY was "Mono" by Courtney Love. The second best rock song in a history of my chart, only behind LaFee - Prinzesschen.

  6. McFly - 5 Colours In Her Hair

  7. Eminem - Just Lose It

  8. Eamon - F*** It

  9. McFly - Obviously

  10. Busted - Thunderbirds

  11. Britney Spears - Everytime

  12. The Shapeshifters - Lola's Theme

I could list all but almost half is enough. lol
