Posted October 10Oct 10 5th October 2025It's taken over a year but Die With A Smile finally gets to the top spot, giving Gaga a 6th number one 16 years after her first (Just Dance) and Bruno Mars grabs a 5th 13 years since Grenade exploded on top, and like Gaga it's the second of 2025. That means Saint Etienne are held off the top for now, a new peak 34 years on, though Sarah Cracknell did it as guest vocalist with Mark Brown in the early Noughties. Miley Cyrus makes it a hat-trick of top 5's in 2025, with Lindsey Buckingham getting his highest charted track since 2021 (On The Wrong Side hit 4) and Mick Fleetwood his biggest since 2021 (1979 oldie Sara hit the top spot) or with new stuff 1989 (As Long As You Follow) having first done it with Albatross in early 1969 - 56 years of top 5's is pretty good! Ella Eyre gets her first top 10 as lead artist in 11 years of charting, Nancy Sinatra's Sugar Town is featured in an advert and gives me an excuse for it to debut 58 years late, always loved it (and still love Nancy) though she hasnt had any new stuff out since the mid-2000's, she has been a fave charting her pre-personal chart classics over the years. New at 49. Taylor Swift has a new album out about to invade the charts, and she's adopted the 90's USA system: you can buy the album but not the individual tracks, in order to maximise sales. Guess what? It worked. I was forced to buy it to get the few tracks I wanted, but only as it was a fiver on downloads. So, the best track The Fate Of Ophelia debuts at 68, The Sabrina Carpenter title track The Life Of A Showgirl is at 87 and the George Michael-referencing Father Figure is at 89.Sparks debut with a track from the Madder EP (Mad companion set) They, and leapfrog their own collab with Gorillaz, to make a very Sparks-centric chart year for me. Ron Mael is 80 years old and as inventive as ever, while Russell is a mere 78 spring chicken. Casting my mind back to being an excited 16 year-old buying This Town Ain't Big Enough as soon as it was out, the notion thatthey would have been making new music I would buy in 2025 would have seemed science-fiction. It would have been the equivalent of Blues singer Bessie Smith or Oscar Hammerstein II making the charts in 1974. She was born in 1894, he 1895, Bessie died in 1937, Oscar 1960 - though he was actively writing lyrics until his death, The Sound Of Music being his last hoorah. Unthinkable, in other words!Perrie joins JADE in my chart, with the very Little Mix Shout Out To My Ex-ish If He Wanted To He Would at 76, Raye follws up her own recent collab with Where The Hell Is My Husband, not a million miles away from Ella Eyre's top tenner in vibe, and Sigala's back with another collab, Hello! Appropriately enough as he has charted twice before with Ella Eyre on vocals in 2017/18, and has a chart span of a decade now since Easy Lover went top 5, Hello being the 10th, a very symmetrical one a year on average if he can squeeze another one in before christmas. 1 2 1 3 DIE WITH A SMILE - Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars 4000002 3 2 5 BRAND NEW ME - Saint Etienne & Confidence Man 3377503 1 1 5 DIVINE FEELINGS - Vance Joy 5820004 5 4 5 PEOPLE NEED PEOPLE - Good Neighbours 2053005 9 5 3 SECRETS - Miley Cyrus featuring Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood 1227006 4 1 10 THE SUBWAY - Chappell Roan 5900007 6 1 17 TOKYO RAIN - Loaded Honey 14280008 7 1 11 12 TO 12 - sombr 6331509 12 9 6 AT NIGHT - Shakedown 15820010 18 10 7 SPACE - Ella Eyre 12310011 8 8 8 THE HIVES FOREVER FOREVER THE HIVES - The Hives 20960012 16 12 6 SELF CONTROL - Laura Branigan 15360013 13 4 12 FIVE MORE SECONDS - Seafret featuring KT Tunstall 45725014 19 14 4 TALK TO ME - Damiano David featuring Tyla and Nile Rodgers 7295015 10 1 17 OVER - Loaded Honey 108275016 11 1 12 WALK OF FAME - Miley Cyrus featuring Brittany Howard 102920017 31 17 5 BACK TO FRIENDS - sombr 6270018 20 18 8 FORT KNOX - Sigrid 11635019 25 19 9 ANXIETY - Doechii 14430020 23 20 8 SINGAPORE (DEFINITIVE VERSION) - Girls Aloud 11635021 22 21 8 THE FIRST TIME - Damiano David 12385022 17 17 8 G.O.A.T. October 12Oct 12 Hi John. Hope you've had a good week and are recovering from your holiday. I'm very jealous 😂. No more time off until Christmas for me sadly. Oh to answer your question - Wolf Alice's 6 consecutive week run at No.2 on my chart is indeed a record. Well, a joint record. The only other two tracks to spend 6 weeks at No.2 without getting to No.1 are ATB's 9pm...Til I Come in '99 and Nicole Scherzinger's Don't Hold Your Breath in '11. Just some pointless AH Gold chart trivia for you 😂. Dead Dance is very catchy love the Phantom Of The Opera intro, and a great dance routine on the TV show, Wednesday continues to be fun and Gaga guests, as does ex-number one act Billie Piper, and Joanna Lumley to boot got quite close on Pet Shop Boys Absolutely Fabulous.😄You can take 100% credit for Nate Smith 🤩cheers! 😎

Went Top 10 for me in 2009 if memory serves correctly. Still a banger.52 38 37 11 CHEERS TO ME - Self Esteem 12320053 42 5 20 GLAD - Saint Etienne 55645055 67 55 4 DANCING HEART - Saint Etienne 2560056 59 56 5 LOSER - Tame Impala 3370059 65 59 6 DOLCE VITA - Sophie Ellis-Bextor 3750061 47 24 9 BEAUTIFUL ODYSSEY - YouNotUs x Cascada 11500062 62 62 4 TEARS - Sabrina Carpenter 2960063 52 1 21 RUN WITH U - Mamagama 107030064 60 1 30 SUNSET BLVD - Selena Gomez & Benny Blanco 136280065 51 2 27 END OF THE WORLD - Miley Cyrus 82365066 77 66 2 BE LIKE THAT - Seeb featuring JP Cooper 1140067 76 67 2 UNCONDITIONAL - JADE 11400 ❤️❤️❤️ still can't get enough of this. If there was any justice this would be absolutely massive!68 NEW 68 1 THE FATE OF OPHELIA - Taylor Swift 6400 sounds a bit like Little Boots' Remedy in places for me. Still a good pop record though.69 72 69 2 UNDRESSED - sombr 1180070 RE 7 20 BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE - David Guetta & Sia 333050 this still gets played about three times a shift on Hits Radio which is quite baffling considering it didn't exactly set the official charts alight. And yep, I'm getting quite sick of it 😂73 NEW 73 1 THEY - Sparks 540074 86 74 2 THE HAPPY DICTATOR - Gorillaz featuring Sparks 800075 85 75 2 DRACULA - Tame Impala 800076 NEW 76 1 IF HE WANTED TO HE WOULD - Perrie 480077 NEW 77 1 WHERE THE HELL IS MY HUSBAND? - RAYE 460079 61 20 17 MANCHILD - Sabrina Carpenter 22340083 80 71 6 EURO-COUNTRY - CMAT 27200 having quite a steady run in the lower reaches!84 NEW 84 1 HELLO - Sigala x Leigh-Anne x Jonita Gandhi 3200Fantastic chart as always ❤️Hi AH! 🙂Thanks for the well-wishes, though I've come down with a bad cold or something the last week so running late with charts, If I was still working I would have called in sick, but I asked myself for some time off and said "OK but you've just come back from Spain, it's your own fault!" 😄Ooh sorry it's Xmas till you get a break again, these dark cold months are the worst. Thanks for the chart stats, 6 weeks for ATB and Nicole too I think is quite impressive - I'm not sure any record has ever done 6 weeks at 2 without topping my chart, I must look it up. I reckon 4 weeks is the most though. And yes, Saint Etienne have never topped my chart, though Sarah Cracknell has with Mark Brown. At least until the next hour or so...!😇Well done on predicting Sugar Town would chart, I can never turn down Nancy Sinatra, and well done on beating me to charting it by about 14 years! Unconditional is great yes, and Ophelia is the highlight of the new album - if I had a criticism its that I would have liked a bit more variety, I much prefer Lover, for example, but it's pleasant enough. Maybe Hits Radio is tagged by that station in Sitges that was playing Guetta/Sia too 😄fret not its back for one week only as a holiday hit. Thanks as always for the comprehensive appreciation! 😎

Honestly, it's a brilliant song and to think it's still on the official chart too.I do hope unconditional can climb quite well and peak quite high here. What a track this is from her. Very underrated this one.The fate of Ophelia is fantastic. I'm glad to see it enter this week. Hopefully it peaks nice and high for you.If he wanted to he would and where is my husband are both smashing. Love them. Hopefully both will do fantastic in the long run.Brilliant chart 😄Hey James!🙂Thanks for the picks and comments, I'm thinking all of those are growers and could be around a while!👍Cheers! 😎
