Taylor Swift Takes Top 12 Spots on Billboard Hot 100, Led by ‘The Fate of Ophelia’

By Gary Trust | 10/13/2025

Taylor Swift claims the top 12 spots on the latest Billboard Hot 100, all via her new album, The Life of a Showgirl. On the chart dated Oct. 18, “The Fate of Ophelia” leads her dozen debuts at No. 1 — as the 12-song set becomes the first album ever to place all its songs uninterrupted from the top of the chart on down.

Swift was already the only artist ever to hold the Hot 100’s entire top 10 and now achieves the feat for a third time. She first filled the top 10 thanks to her album Midnights in November 2022 and outpaced herself via The Tortured Poets Department in May 2024 — when she stormed the chart’s top 14 positions. (Whereas the entirety of The Life of a Showgirl resides in the Hot 100’s top 12, Midnights, along with the top 10, yielded 10 more debuts, between Nos. 13 and 45, for a total of 20 songs from the set in its debut week; The Tortured Poets Department in its first frame added another 17 debuts below the top 14 spots, from Nos. 22 to 55, making for 31 total entries from the LP.)

With “The Fate of Ophelia,” Swift scores her 13th career Hot 100 No. 1, tying for the fourth-most over the chart’s 67-year history. She also ups her count to 69 top 10s, the most among women.

Also notably, the song blasts in with 92.5 million official U.S. streams, according to data tracker Luminate — the most for a title in a single week since official streams became the metric’s sole contributor to the Hot 100 in September 2020.

As previously reported, The Life of a Showgirl, released Oct. 3 on Republic, launches at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with the biggest week for an album, by equivalent album units and album sales, since Luminate began collecting album data electronically in 1991. Swift earns her 15th No. 1 set, passing JAY-Z for the most among soloists in the chart’s 69-year archives.

Read on for in-depth highlights of Swift’s latest historic week on the Hot 100.

Swift swoops in from Nos. 1 through 12 on the Hot 100, as the entirety of The Life of a Showgirl blocks all competition atop the chart. Here’s a look at Swift’s songs in the top 12 on the Oct. 18-dated Hot 100:

No. 1, “The Fate of Ophelia”

No. 2, “Opalite”

No. 3, “Elizabeth Taylor”

No. 4, “Father Figure”

No. 5, “Wood”

No. 6, “Wi$h Li$t”

No. 7, “Actually Romantic”

No. 8, “The Life of a Showgirl,” feat. Sabrina Carpenter

No. 9, “Eldest Daughter”

No. 10, “Cancelled!”

No. 11, “Ruin the Friendship”

No. 12, “Honey”

“The Fate of Ophelia,” which arrives as the 1,184th No. 1 in the Hot 100’s history, drew 92.5 million official streams and 38.5 million radio airplay audience impressions in the United States Oct. 3-9. It, like all tracks from The Life of a Showgirl, has no sales counting toward the list, as they were not available for purchase individually during the album’s first week of release.

The single is Swift’s 10th leader on the Streaming Songs chart, the most among women (and second overall only to Drake’s 21). On Radio Songs, it debuts as her 22nd top 10 at No. 7; it’s just the fifth song to start in the top 10 since the ranking began measuring all-format airplay in December 1998, joining Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” (No. 6, 2022); Adele’s “Easy on Me” (No. 4, 2021); Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” (No. 6, 2011); and Janet Jackson’s “All for You” (No. 9, 2001).

The start of “The Fate of Ophelia” (whose official video premiered Oct. 5) with 92.5 million streams marks the top total for a song in a single week since all YouTube user-generated content (UGC) was removed from chart calculations in 2020. The sum surpasses the 76.4 million streams that Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, drew in its first week (May 25, 2024).

Meanwhile, cuts from The Life of a Showgirl hold the nine biggest weekly streaming totals of 2025, excluding holiday fare, from “The Fate of Ophelia” through the title track, which drew 49.1 million streams. Prior leader “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar now ranks 10th, with 49 million (Feb. 22). Combined, the 12 tracks on The Life of a Showgirl collected 679 million official streams Oct. 3-9.

Plus, each of the 12 songs from The Life of a Showgirl totaled at least 1.1 million in airplay audience, from “The Fate of Ophelia” through “Eldest Daughter.” Cumulatively, they rang up 68.5 million in radio reach. Swift’s 13th Hot 100 No. 1

Swelling her count to a signature 13 Hot 100 No. 1s, Swift ties Drake and Michael Jackson for the fourth-most leaders in the chart’s history; she breaks out of a tie with Madonna and the Supremes. Among women, only Mariah Carey (19) and Rihanna (14) have more.

Most Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s:

20, The Beatles

19, Mariah Carey

14, Rihanna

13, Taylor Swift

13, Drake

13, Michael Jackson

12, Madonna

12, The Supremes

11, Whitney Houston

10, Janet Jackson

10, Stevie Wonder

Here’s a recap of Swift’s 13 Hot 100 No. 1s (with debuts atop the chart noted with *):

“The Fate of Ophelia,” one week at No. 1 to date, Oct. 18, 2025*

“Fortnight,” feat. Post Malone, two weeks, May 4, 2024*

“Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) [From the Vault],” one week, Nov. 11, 2023*

“Cruel Summer,” two weeks, beginning Oct. 28, 2023

“Anti-Hero,” eight weeks, beginning Nov. 5, 2022*

“All Too Well (Taylor’s Version),” one week, Nov. 27, 2021*

“Willow,” one week, Dec. 26, 2020*

“Cardigan,” one week, Aug. 8, 2020*

“Look What You Made Me Do,” three weeks, beginning Sept. 16, 2017

“Bad Blood,” feat. Kendrick Lamar, one week, June 6, 2015

“Blank Space,” seven weeks, beginning Nov. 29, 2014

“Shake It Off,” four weeks, beginning Sept. 6, 2014*

“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” three weeks, beginning Sept. 1, 2012

Now with eight No. 1 Hot 100 debuts, Swift passes Ariana Grande for the most among women. Overall, only Drake has more (nine).

Plus, Swift pushes her total to eight Hot 100 No. 1s in the 2020s, one-upping Drake for the most this decade. BTS and Grande follow with six No. 1s each in the ‘20s.

As “The Fate of Ophelia” towers over the Hot 100, Swift extends her record streak to nine consecutive albums of all-new music (excluding rerecorded projects) housing at least one Hot 100 No. 1.

Here’s a rundown:

The Life of a Showgirl: “The Fate of Ophelia,” 2025

The Tortured Poets Department: “Fortnight” (feat. Post Malone), 2024

Midnights: “Anti-Hero,” 2022

Evermore: “Willow,” 2020

Folklore: “Cardigan,” 2020

Lover: “Cruel Summer,” 2023 (originally released in 2019)

Reputation: “Look What You Made Me Do,” 2017

1989: “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” “Bad Blood” (feat. Kendrick Lamar), 2014-15

Red: “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” 2012

Adding 10 new Hot 100 top 10s, Swift boosts her career total from 59 to 69, the most among women.

Most Billboard Hot 100 Top 10s:

81, Drake

69, Taylor Swift

38, Madonna

35, The Beatles

32, Rihanna

30, Michael Jackson

29, Elton John

28, Mariah Carey

28, Stevie Wonder

27, Justin Bieber

27, Janet Jackson

26, Lil Wayne

25, Elvis Presley (whose career start predated the Hot 100’s inception)

Of Swift’s 69 Hot 100 top 10s, 30 are from her three most recent studio albums of all-new material, with The Life of a Showgirl joining The Tortured Poets Department and Midnights in spinning off a record 10 top 10s each.

Swift also lifts her career sums to 177 top 40 hits (trailing only Drake’s 218) and 276 overall appearances (second to Drake’s 361).

Swift co-wrote and co-produced “The Fate of Ophelia” with Max Martin and Shellback. She has now co-written 13 Hot 100 No. 1s and co-produced seven.

Martin adds his 28th Hot 100 No. 1 as a songwriter, second only to Paul McCartney’s 32. Martin tallies his record-extending 26th No. 1 as a producer.

Shellback notches his 11th Hot 100 leader as a writer and 10th as a producer.

Amid Swift’s top 10 Tay-keover, the Hot 100 histories of Sabrina Carpenter and the late George Michael add new honors. As featured on “The Life of a Showgirl,” Carpenter collects her sixth Hot 100 top 10. It’s her third this year, following her own “Manchild” (No. 1, one week, June) and “Tears” (No. 3, September), both from her latest album, Man’s Best Friend.

Swift’s “Father Figure” interpolates Michael’s song of the same name, which topped the Hot 100 for two weeks in 1988, following its release on his album Faith. The new track is his 22nd top 10 as a writer, with “Father Figure” previously sampled in P.M. Dawn’s top 10 hit “Looking Through Patient Eyes” (No. 6, 1993). Beyond Swift: ‘Golden’ & ‘Ordinary’

Below Swift’s haul on the Hot 100, HUNTR/X’s “Golden,” from Netflix’s record-breaking animated movie KPop Demon Hunters, is the list’s highest-charting hit, falling to No. 13 after eight weeks at No. 1. “Golden” tops Digital Song Sales for a fourth week (7,000, up 19%, boosted by the trio’s appearances on NBC’s Saturday Night Live Oct. 4 and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Oct 7.)

At No. 14 on the Hot 100, Alex Warren’s former 10-week leader “Ordinary” drops from No. 2, while ruling Radio Songs for a 17th week, up 1% to 77.4 million in audience — a new weekly best for the track and the most for any song in more than a year, since Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” (78.2 million) on the Oct. 5, 2024, chart.

7. Actually Romantic - Taylor Swift (NEW)
6. Wish List – Taylor Swift (NEW)
5. Wood – Taylor Swift (NEW)
4. Father Figure – Taylor Swift (NEW)

1. The Fate Of Ophelia - Taylor Swift (NEW)

NEW ENTRIES:

92. What You Is – YoungBoy Never Broke Again/Mellow Rackz (0.1/10)

One of the few Youngboy songs I avoided reviewing ended up charting… *sighs,* let's do this again then. As you can guess, Youngboy is screaming at the top of his lungs like an alcoholic walking out of the pub; he then raps on top of a goofy piano progression in the most questionable way, with him sounding all over the place and unlistenable, with the feature thankfully at least sounding like she can rap better. This song was genuinely so all over the place that it feels like music that would fit a chase scene in a cartoon. I actually can't… this guy has the two worst songs in the Hot 100 chart, and he does it effortlessly. In fact, I'll go even deeper; I think YoungBoy is a contender for the worst artist ever. Also, this is a contender for the worst song of 2025.

88. Wish – Diplo/Trippie Redd (6.6/10)

A song from years ago with an unusually high AOTY user score resurfaces, in what I can only describe as fitting for the melancholic feeling, but improvement is necessary. The beat feels generic, Trippie feels like he could give more to the song, and the whole thing is a fine song. Nothing special.

12. Honey – Taylor Swift (8/10)

11. Ruin The Friendship – Taylor Swift (8.1/10)

10. Cancelled! - Taylor Swift (8.5/10)

9. Eldest Daughter – Taylor Swift (8/10)

8. The Life Of A Showgirl – Taylor Swift/Sabrina Carpenter (7.9/10)

7. Actually Romantic – Taylor Swift (8.2/10)

6. Wish List – Taylor Swift (8/10)

5. Wood – Taylor Swift (7.8/10)

4. Father Figure – Taylor Swift (7.5/10)

3. Elizabeth Taylor - Taylor Swift (8.3/10)

2. Opalite – Taylor Swift (7.5/10)

1. The Fate Of Ophelia - Taylor Swift (8.3/10)

Releasing as the lead single for Taylor's new album, we start with a song where I can definitely see radio potential, but it doesn't grip me as much as her other lead singles do. On one hand this feels like a slightly brighter version of some things we got on "TTPD", and it certainly has the substance to carry the songs' notes & direction; it's just not her finest lead single. Now that's said, this song is rumoured to be about her husband, Travis Kelce; I don't know if that's true.

I was looking forward to the Taylor tracks pushing out all the long-runners except 'Lose Control', but in the end 'Die With A Smile' and 'Beautiful Things' survive too. 'Lose Control' would be #5 without Taylor's album!! upsidedowndog Oh well, it was worth it getting 'A Bar Song' out at least. Looking forward to the Christmas song takeover now.

apparently Billboard have now changed the recurrence rules (mostly for the purpose of finally yeeting Pineapple off the chart as clearly the Taylor album bomb didn't do the job)

new limits are:

Top 5 -> 78 weeks

Top 10 -> 52 weeks

Top 25 -> 26 weeks

Top 50 -> 20 weeks

Looks like they put them in place because the charts have got incredibly stale worldwide. The OCC should do something like this, as well.

I never see it mentioned anywhere, but I always find with these sorts of upheavals that you create a weirdly distorted chart as a result, one that doesn't fix the 'problem' but hides it under a thin veil. The chart becomes shaped around the rules in ways that just don't pass the eye test. The #51-#100 section of the Hot 100 has always felt like a Bubbling Under chart to me because once all those hugely popular hits are evacuated, the vibe is completely different and the #100 song doesn't feel like it's anywhere near that mark in reality. Increasing the number of thresholds just creates more tiers of this phenomenon, and the funny result of it is that you're going to get songs that might have previously had respectable runs get pulled into hitting the benchmark longevity limits instead. You won't have a Teddy Swims sized hit, but you'll create plenty more miniature versions.

I guess the way I differ from most is that I've never been certain what the rationale is for it, or rather, what kind of chart people seem to want. I always felt like the conventional wisdom was that a chart where movement is slow and there aren't many songs breaking through to the upper bounds, those are the nadir. Yet instead of this, it's always the disruptions that seem to cause disarray, like 'oh, this artist has too many songs' or 'oh, this song is sticking around too long'. Longevity kings are inherently interesting to me, maybe as a fan of sport and also someone with dozens of video game world records, because I always want to know 'how far can they go?'. Instead, the sheer act of sticking around seems to create these pariahs who are easily communicated as symbols of a systematic issue that needs to be re-arranged. Everyone sees the long running hits every week and makes them the standard bearer, the norm. They never have been that, it's just that anything that doesn't stick around gets forgotten about. For every song that debuted 112 weeks ago and was (until this week) still charting, there are 99 songs there that aren't anymore, and hundreds more that have come and gone in the ensuing weeks. But hey, at least that song you don't care about will peak at #97 instead of #3 on the Bubbling Under chart.
