I’ve been compiling a list of my Top 20 favourite songs of the year, then sharing with my family at Christmas, since 1989 now, so this is my 37th year doing it.

I only joined BJ last year but have noticed many of you post EOY lists so thought I’d add mine for this year. I’ve expanded it to a Top 50 as most people’s list seem longer than 20 songs.

My only, self imposed, rule is keeping to one song per artist (not features).

I realise we have 1 month of the year left, however the number of releases tend to die away in December, and I reserve the right to change if something great comes along before year end. There probably won’t be much, if any, commentary because the songs speak for themselves and also I’m a bit lazy, but I’ll try to post them regularly over December.

Then, if anyone is interested, I might post the older lists from previous years at another stage.

only know 2 songs here so far but I enjoy both!

#45 Austra - Math Equation just discovered this one as another song of hers "Fallen Cloud" came up on my YT recommendations and quickly raced to the top of my personal chart. ought to peep the whole album at some point.

#38 Model/Actriz - Cinderella and this one was a discovery off the buzzjack song contest where it was my favourite of that edition

Fantastic list so far. A few that are in consideration in my year-ender. I was debating another Water From Your Eyes track for my list, but it's hard to overlook how excellent "Life Signs" is and I may have to rethink. Great Men I Trust choice, hadn't heard Prewn, loved Model/Actriz, and that Maruja record is in contention for my album year-end list. Anxiously awaiting the rest of the countdown :)

Just noticed you have Dove Ellis on your Last.fm recently played list. That album is absolutely fantastic! I’m going in with an early/bold prediction of a Mercury music prize win for next year.
