Posted January 22, 200718 yr So I know the Top 200 is available to us through sites like MusicWeek, but it's the top 75 that's considered important and that is widely available on websites and things. But now with the new rules, do you think we should have a top 200 that's more available to be able to see all the strange entries in the lower end of the chart from old songs and album tracks? Maybe a Top 200 would be too much but perhaps a top 100 would be suitable. It would definately be a more rounded number!
January 22, 200718 yr Top 100 :D Although, then people would throw a hissy, and try and say, we have tried to go American. Because they have Hot 100.
January 22, 200718 yr I'd like to have easier access to a top 200, yes. I'd prefer the official chart to be kept top 75 though, just to be able to access the top 200 if I needed to see it.

January 22, 200718 yr A top 100 is better But Music Week does not publish a Top 200 chart just a top 75 on their site
January 22, 200718 yr I quite like the Status Quo, although I wouldn't mind a Top 100. Top 75 is quite a unique number amongst charts and that for one makes me feel quite protective of it , but I am also a big fan of imperial measurements too! Miles forever! Maybe I am just mad.
January 22, 200718 yr I agree that it should be extended to the Top 100 like many countries do. For about 8 years between 1983 and 1991 the Top 100 were published but as the decline in singles sales they decided to revert it back to Top 75. 200 I think is a bit too much. Actually Australia has a Top 100 but only publish the Top 50.

January 22, 200718 yr I think on the whole with single sales declining and strange thinks happening at the bottom of the chart, nothing outside the Top40 matters anymore. For me, I'd reduce the number. More important information is the date a single will be available to buy whether that be for download or physical. A Top100 for albums would be nice however.
January 22, 200718 yr Personally I would expand the chart to a Top100, as it would give a greater opportunity to small independent acts who lack the major record labels distribution to gain a profile within the music industry. With the new rules they are losing out older songs, and I can imagine things getting worse with the nightmare scenario of the Simon Cowell's of the world think for the next series of "Zzzz-Factor", I'll make these Karaoke performances available to download on my Syco label, to clog up the charts and make more money for myself (Kerching).
January 22, 200718 yr my Syco label do you work for Syco? Also, yeah I would expand it to top 200. Edited January 22, 200718 yr by JON
January 22, 200718 yr Top 100 is enough imo seeing as the bottom end of the charts would just be the same songs hanging around for months/years on end and it wouldn't really be that interesting, however from another point of view if many album tracks or unsigned bands were entering I suppose it would be good to be able to view the whole top 200.

I think a top 100 published would be nice, but I wonder how many different songs got downloaded this week? I mean, could the chart - well chart to 15,000 or something. 80,000 even? Is that figure over the top or even an understatment? And as for popular TV talent shows, I think it will be very interesting to see what sort of effect they might have on the singles chart. But I don't think the top 40 will be effected that much. Only time will tell I guess.
January 22, 200718 yr i woul dbe all for a top 200 or even a top 100 i think the public have the right to see the charts as its the public who make th echarts by biying the music
